Chicago – Here we are again, the end of another year, and it’s time to momentarily look back. Thus opens the 10 Best Films Of 2023, the list that represents one soul interacting with the art of cinema. That soul belongs to Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, Wbgr-fm and Wssr-fm.
So begins my list, with such a lofty and third person proclamation. By far, the story of the year is Barbenheimer (the same weekend release of Barbie and Oppenheimer), proving in the digital age that something weird and organic can take hold, and get more people to the theaters, celebrating a true movie event. Kudos to the movie celebrators who did both in one magic day.
I format my 10 Best to reflect the on-air reviews I do weekly on Wbgr-fm and Wssr-fm and New on Missourinet.com. Each of the 10 Best will be in the on-air or audio format for your listening pleasure.

Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime has revealed that he has started a new game company called Dreamhaven.
“We’re almost trying to create a haven for creators who want an environment that is development-friendly, values product, and player experience over short-term financial pressures,” Morhaime says of Dreamhaven’s goals in a statement to Gamesbeat. “There is a better way of approaching business and game creation that can work and be sustainable and be a lot of fun and yield positive results.”
As of now, Dreamhaven intends to basically serve as a parent company to two development studios: Moonshot and Secret Door. Moonshot will be led by Jason Chayes (a former Blizzard executive producer on projects such as Starcraft 2 and Hearthstone). Assisting him will be Starcraft 2 director Dustin Browder and former Hearthstone creative director, Ben Thompson. TikTok plans to sue the Trump administration over the president’s executive order that would ban the popular social media app in the United States, according to NPR.
The outlet, which said the suit could be filed as soon as Tuesday, reports that TikTok will argue Trump’s action is unconstitutional because it didn’t give the company a chance to respond and challenges the president’s use of national security as his justification for the far-reaching ban. NPR cited “a person who was directly involved in the forthcoming suit but was not authorized to speak for the company.”
Representatives for TikTok decline to comment on the report Saturday. The White House declined to comment to NPR on the forthcoming lawsuit and said in a statement: “The Administration is committed to protecting the American people from all cyber related threats to critical infrastructure, public health and safety, and our economic and national security.
