Though raised in Brooklyn, actor turned producer/director Danny A. Abeckaser was born in Israel. Unfortunately, that birthright isn’t enough to lend authenticity to “The Engineer,” which feels very much like an American B-movie stab at turning Israeli anti-terrorist operations of 30 years ago into formulaic action fodder — without much action, even. A miscast Emile Hirsch plays a Shin Bet agent tasked with hunting down the mastermind behind a series of suicide bombings. Arriving at yet another low ebb in Israeli international relations over Palestinian issues, this frequently unconvincing and clunky would-be thriller will have a hard time stirring much enthusiasm in most territories. Lionsgate is releasing to limited U.S. theaters and home formats on August 18.
It begins, with a burst of explanatory onscreen text, in the fall of 1993, as Israeli Prime Minister Rabin and Plo leader Yasser Arafat were in Washington D.C. attempting to broker peace under the auspices of President Clinton.

Jesse O'Brien and shuttle on-set.
The seeds of Jesse O'Brien's first feature Arrowhead, releasing VOD June 9, were sown when the director was just eighteen.
O'Brien and Arrowhead DoP Samuel Baulch, the filmmaker's best friend since high school, flew together to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where they spent a semester studying film at Compass Academy.
"We flew over there and had the time of our lives making connections", said O'Brien.
"Then a decade later when we made Arrowhead, some of those contacts became producers and flew over and brought their gear because we'd maintained those friendships in the years since".
After Grand Rapids, O'Brien went on to study multimedia at Swinburne, before getting a job at Creswick Creative in South Melbourne.
"They do all the TV spots and ad campaigns for Disney. So I got thrown in the deep end in my first job after uni, learning motion graphics, which is essentially text-flying screens,...

Our monthly round up of horror DVDs and Blu-rays, led by the wonderful and terrifying Audition...
So, it seems to be time once again to ask that age-old question: what’s your favourite cinematic depiction of conjoined twins? Ranging from the mutoid majesty of That Guy In Total Recall With The Talking Stomach Baby through to the Farrelly brothers’ gross-out gubbins Stuck On You, Hollywood has carved a progressive path in its depiction of wretched freaks of nature, magical otherworldly beings and monstrous killers. Following in this glorious tradition of stigmatising the disabled (insert Iain Duncan Smith reference here), this month sees the Bluray release of Frank Henenlotter’s classic splatter comedy Basket Case trilogy.

"What initially started off as a small commercial for a Mercedes-Benz dealership turned into something international and epic," director Marc Furmie tells Filmink. Keen to change their look and appeal G Brothers Mercedes-Benz and Petronas Lubricants International looked to The Filmmakers Factory for inspiration to create a new online advertising campaign that would draw in the younger audience, much like the BMW ads did in 2001. From the rubble came Venger, a faster than life three-part web thriller about a man's quest for revenge. The first 15-minute-long film in the series is a slick action-packed revenge tale starring an ensemble of Australian talent including Christian Clark (Gabriel), Henry Nixon (The Pacific) and Dan Mor (Underbelly: The Golden Mile).
