Writer and director Ryan Spindell (Kirksdale) delivers to us a new entry into the world of anthology-based horror with The Mortuary Collection. The film takes a funeral home as its central location, a proven setting in the world of horror films.
The film, in my mind, immediately harkened back to such anthology delights as Tales from the Crypt, with Clancy Brown delivering a wonderfully energised performance as Montgomery Dark, the mortician. He’s a hoot in the role and it really pulls the whole film along in an enjoyable way, with his delivery as this central host-type figure. "Some things even I find too unsettling to recount." Rlje has released their official trailer for the upcoming VOD / DVD release of the horror anthology indie The Mortuary Collection, which initially premiered at the 2019 Fantastic Fest a few years ago. This also already debuted on Shudder streaming last fall, but we're just now catching up with this final trailer (we first posted a teaser a few years back). This anthology film features four unique horror stories that progress through four decades - a '50s housewife struggles with a mysterious presence in her bathroom; a '60s college boy gets a taste of his own fraternizing medicine; and a '70s husband makes some tough decisions about his wife; culminating in '80s-set The Babysitter Murders. The film is wrapped around with a story featuring a young girl who enters a secret room in a mortuary and learns the backstory...

On a dark and spooky day, atop a dark and spooky hill, sits a dark and spooky house inhabited by a dark and spooky mortician. Welcome to The Mortuary Collection.
When a young woman attends a funeral in the strange, expansive old mortuary, she stumbles upon a room of curious tomes and meets the ominous mortician that cares for the dead. Under the guise of looking for a job, the woman allows herself to be guided through the mortician's collection of the macabre. Each part of the collection tells the story of a corpse. Who they were, how they died, and (most importantly) why Death took them.
The Mortuary Collection stars Caitlin Custer, Christine Kilmer, Jacob Elordi, Barak Hardley, and Clancy Brown (who is absolutely Fabulous in this!). The anthology horror by writer and director Ryan Spindell originally premiered at the 2019 Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin, TX, before finding...

Raymond (Jackson Hurst) is a vampire. He's also a dad. He didn't mean to be a vampire, but was unexpectedly jumped by Victoria, Goddess of the Underworld (Sarah Palmer), who wanted to utilise his skills as a psychiatrist to comfort a host of unhappy monsters. Fortunately his wife Natasha (Emily O'Brien) and her brother Bob (Barak Hardley) have taken it well, but the situation makes it difficult for them to keep up appearances in their Sixties suburban home, and they're desperate not to let teenage daughter Susie (Grace Fulton) find out.
Made in the style of a popular Us TV sitcom, Frankie Ingrassia's only marginally bloody comedy gets its sets, characters and pacing just right, but its success as a spoof is its undoing as a piece of cinema. "There is something 'not right!'" Random Media has unveiled an official trailer for a wacky low-budget indie horror comedy titled Vampire Dad, marking the feature directorial debut of actress / filmmaker Frankie Ingrassia. This seems like one of those strange films lost in time, that somehow exists and is being released this year. Set in the early 60s, a family man-turned-vampire struggles with his beastly, bloody-thirsty nature while his devoted wife tries to keep anyone from finding out, including their teenage daughter. Starring Jackson Hurst as the "Vampire Dad", along with Emily O'Brien, Grace Fulton, Barak Hardley, Juli Cuccia, Barak Hardley, and Linda Nile. Not sure what to make of it. Fun? Cringe-worthy? Have a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ two posters) for Frankie Ingrassia's Vampire Dad, direct from YouTube: When psychologist Dr. Raymond Walenski (Jackson Hurst) is turned into a vampire, to act as therapist to the creatures of the underworld,...

The Mortuary Collection is a horror anthology from writer and director Ryan Spindell. The film tells four tales, with a wraparound segment. To have its World Premiere at this year's Fantastic Fest, this film tells tales of murder, from the '50s to the '80s. As well, The Mortuary Collection stars: Clancy Brown (Starship Troopers), Caitlin Fisher, Barak Hardley, Christine Kilmer and Mike Nelson. The film's first trailer has been released this week. And, the clip shows a lot of the wraparound story and snippets of the others. The film moves through various times and settings. One of the shorts covers a '50s housewife and a strange presence in her bathroom. Another story looks at a college boy and his fraternizing ways. Still other stories cover a strange husband and wife relationship, along with the '80s Babysitter Murders. All of these short tales are told by a...

Finding only a few moments of intriguing genre pleasure, Mockingbird is bookended by two of the biggest thematic bombshells you can fathom. Filmmaker Bryan Bertino (The Strangers) opens his film by throwing a monumental haymaker, and closes with a punishing uppercut – yet everything in-between strikes with the impact of a pillow-wielding-kindergartener. After staring out with an aggressive “Bang,” we’re treated to a flaccid letdown from the year 1995, with visual aesthetics to match. Copying V/H/S‘s physical delivery, Mockingbird is a blast from a past without high definition cameras, mirroring the skill and grace of your Grandma’s home video collection. Mockingbirds got their name for deceptively mimicking the songs of their avian brethren, much like how Bertino’s aptly titled film refuses to distinguish itself in any unique manner except for red balloons and an all-too-anxious clown.
Once the cameras start rolling, we learn that a sinister game is afoot.

@midnight has been a hit for Comedy Central thanks to a simple combination of social media interaction of the off-the-cuff riffs of notable comedians. The cable channel's latest web series employs a similar formula. Cc:Studios has released Cc: Social Scene, where social media suggestions become comedy sketches. Each Cc: Social Scene episode begins on Twitter. Fans are given a subject and are invited to submit their ideas for a sketch based around that subject. For example, the first full episode takes the subject "Worst Break Up Lines" and turns it into a comedic scene about an overly-blunt pair of musicians. As evidenced by the above sketch, Cc: Social Scene boasts a strong cast. Paul Scheer serves as the host, and he headlines a group of performers that includes SourceFed host Lee Newton, Game Shop actor Barak Hardley, and actress Lilan Bowden

More often than not, films gain a cult following purely by accident. That’s almost the point. However every now and again filmmakers present their work with the sole intention of achieving that cult status, and it simply feels too contrived, defeating the object somewhat. Henry Saine’s Bounty Killer can be accused of just that, in a film that is full to the brim of corny one-liners. There are only so many you can implement before they lose their impact – and this feels like a screenplay made up of t-shirt slogans.
Set in the not too distant future, we enter into a post-apocalyptic society where corporations have displaced the government. However a rebellion is sparked amongst the people, and the Council of Nine have issued death warrants for all of the guilty, white collar criminals. I hadn’t heard of Bounty Killer till a couple of YouTubers (Coolduder, Wetmovie1) mentioned the film in their usual DVD and Blu-ray round-ups. The title alone intrigued me, after all I had enjoyed the previous “bounty hunter” flicks I’d seen: Michael Dudikoff’s Bounty Hunters and Bounty Hunters 2: Hardball and the recent Trish Stratus (WWE Diva) starring Bounty Hunters. So I was bound to enjoy a film that not only featured bounty hunters, but was called Bounty Killer, right?
In a word. Yes! In fact two words: Hell Yes!
Based on a short film of the same name (and also the graphic novel adaptation) by Jason Dodson and Henry Saine, Bounty Killer is set 20 years after corporations took over the world s governments.

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Arc Entertainment. Director: Henry Saine. Writers: Jason Dodson, Colin Ebeling, and Henry Saine. Cast: Matthew Marsden, Kristanna Loken, Christian Pitre, Barak Hardley, Abraham Benrubi and Gary Busey. This film critic is not a fan of writing negative reviews. However, reviews can sometimes serve as a warning, to steer viewers away from certain material. Henry Saine's (The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu) Bounty Killer is a film that most film fans will want to skip. Based on a 2013 comic book, Bounty Killer offers silly situations in a future post-apocalyptic landscape. The film also offers very little in its characters, while trying to trump up its shortfalls by offering almost every genre in the book. This mishmash of story ideas and weak characters creates for a very uninspiring ninety-two minutes. The story is built on a very weak foundation. The...

With a simplistic title like Bounty Killer, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this indie action flick, but the film quickly asserted itself as a heavy hitting, big-gun-toting action extravaganza unlike anything I could have predicted. Henry Saine’s dystopian universe is created with a very eccentric eye for detail and a gutsiness comparable to a swinging pair of brass balls, as the bullets quickly started flying and blood started splattering against the walls like a freakin’ Jackson Pollock painting. Ignore the “independent” classification this film might have, because Saine has created a film that stacks up against the year’s biggest blockbuster productions – and kicks some of their asses in the process.

I understand completely, why there has been no marketing behind this film, but unfortunately it has done it a great disservice. A quick glance at the PR behind Bounty Killer, would lead you to believe that it is on the same level as many of the other straight-to-video action fare you see coming out of Anchor Bay, Universal, Lionsgate etc. Even the final poster/cover art is horrendous. After digging a little deeper, and learning that it was directed by Henry Saine, that previously directed The Last Lovecraft, a film I’m quite fond of, I decided to give it a shot. I’ll admit upfront, that it was helped by the fact that the film is now screening at this year’s Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and allows me to assist Jeff in his coverage, to somewhat lessen the load. Click here to find his recounting of the first day of the festival.

Continue reading to learn about the cartoon and short film that came first, his experience on the set of Bounty Killer, and future plans for his post-apocalyptic world:
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Henry. How long have you had the idea for Bounty Killer? Was this a world you wanted to get into ever since you first caught Mad Max (or another post apocalyptic-movie)?
Henry Saine: I’ve always loved the world that George Miller created in Road Warrior and Mad Max, but also the nuttier movies like Ice Pirates and Roger Corman’s Death Race 2000, so it was always a sand box I wanted to play in. Years ago,...

Horror Is Child’S Play – Don Mancini’S Curse Of Chucky (World Premiere)
A rarity among genre franchises, the Child’S Play series (begun in 1988) has retained the sure-handed guidance of original screenwriter/creator Don Mancini throughout killer doll Chucky’s decades’-long reign of horror. H. P. Lovecraft was no fan of the cinema.
In a 1933 letter to poet Richard Morse (quoted in the book Lurker in the Lobby: A Guide to the Cinema of H. P. Lovecraft), he wrote:
"I shall never permit anything bearing my signature to be banalised and vulgarised into the flat, infantile twaddle which passes for 'horror tales' amongst radio and cinema audiences."
One can only imagine the venom that would have flowed from Lovecraft's pen had he seen The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu. Writer/actor/producer Devin McGinn's heart was in the right place, but this attempt to merge Lovecraftian horror with Shaun of the Dead humor fails miserably.
The film opens with Cthulhu cultists finding one part of the key that will open the gates of R'lyeh.

Henry Saine is the director behind The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu a film that mixes the humor of such Gen X styled comedies such as Reality Bites, Clueless, Floundering, etc. It then throws in some sci-fi with, of course, some horror. After all, this does have Lovecraft in the title and you couldn't do this type of film without some horror elements. Saine was all to bring a seamless quality to the narrative of the film making it so that the various story tangents flowed with one another, instead of feeling jerky or uneven. In The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu, Jeff an ordinary guy that is stuck at a dead end job with a boring life, but when a strange old man gives him an Ancient relic and tells him that he is the last bloodline of H.P. Silently released to DVD on Feb 15th in North America (and soon to come on April 4 in the UK) is The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu. This horror-comedy is a welcome change, when compared to previous attempts at re-igniting popular culture’s fascination with H.P. Lovecraft's seminal works.
If there’s ever a definitive appropriate nod of approval, it's found in the opening slate that sets the tone for this film: The world is indeed comic, but the joke is on mankind.
With this release are the usual extras. There is a director’s commentary, an extended scene and a gallery of on-set photos to enjoy. The commentary on the extended scene provides some insight to why one version was used over another and with this scene are storyboards. They replace scenes of potential carnage, if the budget allowed it. Had this production found some additional investors,...
