Been a little while since I’ve checked in on Superman’s solo stuff, so this new issue seemed a good one to dip into. Well, sort of ‘new’, as these stories have appeared somewhere else but I doubt you’d have seen them. A little while ago, on one of DC’s seemingly endless ideas to draw in new readers, they put out comics exclusive to Walmart. These were nice comics, less than 5 dollars for 100 pages, and were a mix of new material and old. The ironic thing was, although they possibly drew in some new readers, it was as always the legacy fan crowd who ate them up. I managed to snag a few myself on a recent holiday to Orlando, and very nice they are too. But I digress. Let’s take a look at...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 11-16-2016
This week Batman’s plans for Operation: Break Bane’s Damn Back! Continues with an unexpected (but not really) twist, Green Arrow continues to deliver, and I basically give up Aquaman being interesting. To top it off I’m thinking I’ll finally drop Suicide Squad as despite Jim Lee’s artwork the story is just dumb. It’s lowest common denominator dumb. Characters acting different then they do anywhere else, being forced to feel more like the “movie”, and now potential zombie Captain Boomerangs. How did the other books fair this week? Read on!
Aquaman #11
Story: Dan Abnett Art: Philippe Briones, Gabe Eltaeb
Review: So it takes Arthur nearly getting beaten to death by the Shaggy Man (yes that’s a real villain, a robot that’s indestructible and looks like Big Foot) to finally win some good graces back...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 10/12/2016
A little late this time around, but never forgotten! This week I take a quick look at the developing stories from DC’s Rebirth line up. While not a huge week for story development, we do get to wrap up a few plots and open the doors to a few more!
Action Comics #965
Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert, Arif Prianto, Dave Sharpe
Review: So with Superman seemingly unable to prove anything nefarious about this new Clark Kent, it’s up to Lois to try to figure out what’s going on! To do that she pretends to the Lois Lane of New 52 Universe, and as expected things don’t go completely as planned. Jurgens continues to do an excellent job here with how he handles the characters. Everyone feels right, in that their motivations, manner of speech and actions...

DC Comics continues having some soft retcons in their Rebirth line up. This time around Cyborg is the center of attention, getting a new creative team and focus. Does it work? Will this be the time for Cyborg to pick up steam with a potential film still looming in the distance? Read on to find out!
Aquaman #6
Story: Dan Abnett Art: Andrew Hennessey, Brad Walker Colors: Gabe Eltaeb
Review: Did someone not inform Dan Abnett this isn’t the same Clark that was introduced when The New 52 first started! This Superman seems very familiar with Arthur, so much so Arthur has no problem airing some of his more insecure issues with Big Blue. The exchange was awkward, and full of weird contradictions that just didn’t make sense for the characters. Superman says he’s not a puppet and he came to talk things out,...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 08-17-2016
DC Comics has been killing it with sales lately, and for good reason! The Rebirth has been a success with almost every series delivering well-written and illustrated stories. Whatever editorial direction Geoff Johns put the company on, it’s worked! The characters feel fresh and new again, while still keeping true to the status quo set up in the New 52 Universe. Could the books do a slightly better job at feeling more “interconnected” (No that doesn’t mean crossover!)? Sure! But regardless, each individual series feels very well put together and on a focused plot. So without further delay, check out the hot books from this week’s DC Comics Rebirth line up!

From the very first and second issue of Tom King’s Batman I have not for once believed that Gotham and Gotham Girl were going to stay on as the heroes they claimed to be, for me I felt that there had to be a twist in there somewhere. Maybe their power source was going to manipulate them somehow, or maybe they were even just playing Batman the whole time in a bigger scheme. Leave it to Tom King to use a not very well known villain to bring out the worst in Gotham and Gotham Girl.
We begin this issue at the same place we left off just some time after. At this time Batman is walking through a mess of dead soldiers and a very scared Gotham Girl who is crying in a corner. Then we find Gotham somewhere else in the city re-creating a scene from an issue of All-Star Superman.

2015 has been quite the eclectic year for comics, and this fact is reflected in our top ten list. Image Comics continues to be the true house of ideas with books ranging from a feminist twist on exploitation films to a murder mystery set in 1940s Hollywood and even a Lgbtq-friendly parody of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Even though they are in the middle of big events (Convergence and Secret Wars), DC and Marvel respectively still have room for offbeat takes on their iconic or not so iconic characters and are represented on this list along with Valiant, which has attracted a veritable Murderer’s Row of creator to shape and develop their shared universe.
Here are the top ten comics of 2015 so far.

Convergence #5
Written by Jeff King
Pencils by Andy Kubert; inks by Sandra Hope
Colors by Brad Anderson
Published by DC Comics
DC’s big event comic of the spring continues. Sad to say that there is not much to be excited about as most of its problems remain. The major change up this week is the takeover of art duties by Andy Kubert and Sandra Hope.
Despite all of the major hang-ups, one genuine improvement is the overall plot. Deimos, infamous sorcerer of Skartaris, has used his captive time travelers to summon the defeated Brainiac. Now able to glimpse into past, present, and future, Deimos reveals the true origins of Telos and mocks the heroes of Earth 2 as he knows what fate has in store for them. Telos’ vicious Battle Royale rip off finally ends but the captives of Convergence are far from safe. That redirection is honestly the...

Publisher: Marvel Comics
Kelly Sue DeConnick took B-list Avenger (or C-list depend on who you’re asking), Carol Danvers, and created one of the best debut comics of 2012, promoting the former Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel, after her deceased mentor. 2013 has been Carol Danvers’ best year ever; she’s never been more popular, and her comics have never been this good. She started off the year with #9 of her monthly series, a day-in-the-life one-shot similar to what Matt Fraction has been doing with Hawkeye. It’s a real standout issue with cameos by Tony Stark and Spider-Woman, and...

It was announced yesterday by DC Comics that the regular Aquaman creative team of Geoff Johns and Paul Pelletier will be taking a break next month. This means that the publisher obviously needed to find a replacement for them and that will be writer John Ostrander, along with artists Manuel Garcia and Sandra Hope for a fill-in issue which will put the spotlight on The Others. "In this issue, as the Scavenger compiles more Atlantean weaponry and artifacts, Aquaman enlists the aid of The Others to help find one missing relic in the Southwestern United States before his enemies can get to it. The issue also introduces a new member of the Others," reads the updated description of the issue. Johns' comments on returning in June and the new cover (by regular artist Pelletier) can be found below. How do you feel about this news? May's Aquaman #20 features the return...

One of the things that Scott Snyder has excelled at during his run on Batman (other than handling huge events and breathing new life into Batman’s rogue gallery) is expanding Batman’s world. There has been the Court of the Owls, Thomas Wayne Jr/Lincoln March, and now Harper and her brother Cullen Row. Snyder is able to graft these elements into the Batman mythology without them seeming contrived for the sake of the plot or event. Harper and Cullen Row previously appeared after “Night of the Owls”, and their appearance after “Death of the Family” and Damian’s death is even more significant.

DC Comics has announced that Andy Kubert will be stepping in for regular “Batman” artist Greg Capullo to illustrate issue #18 of Scott Snyder’s hit series. Joined by inker Sandra Hope, who will be stepping in for Jonathan Glapion, Kubert will oversee the return of Harper Row. The mysterious female character was first introduced in “Batman” #7 and later went on to assist Batman in defeating Tiger Shark in a one-shot story included in issue #12.
Scott Snyder reportedly has plans to further incorporate Harper Row in the Batman mythology, beginning with Andy Kubert’s guest-starring issue. The book will also include a back-up story written by Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, which will be illustrated by Alex Maleev.
Regular “Batman” artist Greg Capullo will resume his duties with when issue #19 arrives on store shelves in April 2013.

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

We’ve received all the covers for DC Comics August solicitations, and Flashpoint promises that worlds will live, worlds will die, and the DC Universe will never be the sa– oh, sorry, that was the tagline for Crisis On Infinite Earths, back when I worked at Flashpoint. I’m so confused…
My favorite item for the month is pictured above, the Sergio Aragones version of Batman from Batman: Black & White. But there are some absolute art gems here, including Darwyn Cooke’s Jsa cover, and Frank Quitely’s redoing of Gil Kane and Murphy Anderson’s cover for Green Lantern #52.
As for the rest of the books, take a look… as usual, spoilers ahead:

Flashpoint #1
Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Andy Kubert
Inks by Sandra Hope
Colors by Alex Sinclair
Lettering by Nick J. Napolitano
Price: $3.99
Release Date: May 11, 2011
The world has changed, and Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert are responsible.
Readers of Johns' recent stint on The Flash know that a big story has been building centering around The Flash's arch rival Professor Zoom, aka The Reverse Flash. Aged bodies have turned up dead, and it seems that Zoom has found a way to bring the past, present, and future all to one moment in time, and all we know is that this can prove to be extremely dangerous.
Flashpoint is DC's big summertime event that focuses on a displaced Barry Allen in an unfamiliar world, and honestly, I felt like Barry Allen when I read this comic.
Spoilers abound below for Flashpoint #1 so proceed with caution [...]...

And when I say long awaited, I mean two decades long– which kinda ties in with all the DC Retroactive titles coming out, including our favorite, Green Lantern reuniting the team of ComicMix contributors Dennis O’Neil and Mike Grell.
Take a look.
