Eli Roth’s slasher Thanksgiving is now available on DVD and Blu-ray, and fans of the film will be happy to hear that a sequel is already on the way. Sony’s TriStar plans on releasing Thanksgiving 2 in theaters worldwide in 2025, we learned late last year. Eli Roth and Jeff Rendell are back to write the screenplay for the upcoming sequel.
“We’re gonna take a year off so we can really, really write a great script. We want to outdo ourselves. Make it better than the first one,” Roth teased back in November.
So what can we expect from Thanksgiving 2? Will it be a direct sequel to the first film, following the surviving characters? Or will Roth pivot to a new slasher story entirely?
Well, chatting with Games Radar this week, Thanksgiving stars Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman both strongly suggest they’ll be back in Roth’s upcoming sequel.

Sixteen years passed from the time Eli Roth made a slasher faux trailer called Thanksgiving for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse to the day when a feature version of Thanksgiving (read our review Here) finally made its way into theatres – and the fact that we’re being rewarded for our patience with not just that movie, but also a sequel that’s expected to reach theatres sometime in 2025 is truly something to be thankful about. Now Thanksgiving cast members Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman have confirmed to Games Radar that they are going to be coming back for Thanksgiving 2!
When asked if she’ll be in the sequel Roth is crafting with Thanksgiving co-writer Jeff Rendell, Verlaque said, “To my knowledge, yes. I think that it’ll be a continuation of where we last saw (her character). So we’ll see. But right now, I think so.

Sony is bringing Eli Roth’s long-awaited slasher Thanksgiving (read our review Here, check out our interview with Roth at This Link) back to theatre screens, and they’re not waiting for the Thanksgiving holiday to do it. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that Thanksgiving, which was just released to theatres for the first time back in November, will be returning to more than 500 theatres this weekend. The movie already received a digital release last week, so presumably this theatrical boost is meant to promote Blu-ray and DVD release that’s coming on January 30th.

With the Thanksgiving holiday very much in the rearview at this point, TriStar Pictures has made the decision to bring Eli Roth’s slasher Thanksgiving back to theaters this weekend.
Why, you ask? Is it an attempt to drum up interest in the sequel that’s headed our way? Or does TriStar just really, really want the movie to hit $50 million worldwide at the box office?
The likely reason for the post-holiday season re-release is that Roth’s Thanksgiving comes to DVD and Blu-ray on January 30, so a return to theaters could help drum up some additional interest in that physical media release. The film has thus far slashed its way into $31.8 million domestically and $46 million worldwide, so we’ll see how much it gains this weekend.
The film will be playing in a reported 511 theaters across the country this weekend. If you missed it last year on the big screen and regretted it,...

Roth penned the script with Jeff Rendell, his childhood friend. The first installment starred Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, with Rick Hoffman,...

Sixteen years after the film’s trailer premiered as part of the Grindhouse theatrical experience, Eli Roth’s slasher movie Thanksgiving carved its way into theaters over the weekend.
The rated “R” bloodbath was produced for just $15 million, a number that the film is likely to pass in the coming days. Here in the United States, Thanksgiving scared up $10.2 million in its debut weekend, with the film’s worldwide opening bringing the current total to $12.6 million.
While not exactly a massive opening weekend for Roth’s return to horror – factoring in marketing costs and other factors, Thanksgiving likely needs to hit $30 million before it starts making a profit – it’s just great to see a bloody-as-hell, old school slasher carving out a piece of the box office pie here in 2023. And most importantly, fans and critics alike are raving about the back-to-basics slasher, which currently has an 83% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

When the Weinstein Company gambled on Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s goal of reviving a disgraced type of movie for Grindhouse in 2007, they turned up snake eyes. Audiences weren’t interested in the vintage aesthetics of the double feature, which included Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof, as well as a series of fake movie trailers directed by Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, and Jason Eisener.
Roth’s contribution to Grindhouse was a promo for Thanksgiving, a cheeky and unremittingly violent nod to holiday-themed slashers like Halloween, Black Christmas, Silent Night, Deadly Night, My Bloody Valentine, and more. Now, over 15 years later, the feature arrives to offer more of the same, only it isn’t styled as a throwback to the grindhouse era.

Eli Roth‘s long-awaited slasher movie Thanksgiving is set to reach theatres on November 17th (that being the Friday before Thanksgiving this year), and with just over two weeks to go until we reach that date, the movie has just earned its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. And it’s exactly the rating we’ve been hoping to see for this one. Thanksgiving has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody horror violence and gore, pervasive language and some sexual material. It is a bit surprising not to see nudity specified on that list, but the rest of the reasons were expected.
Thanksgiving is a feature expansion of the faux trailer (which did feature nudity) Roth made for the Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino double feature Grindhouse sixteen years ago. Roth has been wanting to make a feature version of Thanksgiving ever since he made the faux trailer,...

The New York Comic-Con panel for TriStar and Spyglass’ Eli Roth directed horror movie, Thanksgiving, just canceled. No reason was provided by the studio. A sit-down chat with the genre filmmaker, who was going to show off a featurette in the room, was to take place tomorrow, Oct. 13 at the Empire Stage in the Javits Center at 8 30Pm.

Based on his fake trailer from the Grindhouse Double Feature (2007), Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving is finally a real movie, and IGN has debuted the brand new Red Band trailer today.
Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving comes exclusively to theaters on November 17.
Watch the official Red Band trailer for Thanksgiving below, which removes the Grindhouse-style filter of grime that was applied to the original faux trailer back in 2007. What we’re getting with the actual Thanksgiving movie is a slick, modern slasher set in the present day, but it seems clear based on this trailer that Eli Roth isn’t leaving any of that ’80s gore behind.
Thanksgiving looks like a return to Roth’s gory roots, introducing a cast of attractive young actors and then brutally slaughtering them one-by-one like Thanksgiving turkeys.
It may not be the 1980s anymore, but who says we have to leave the good-old-fashioned slasher movie behind?...

Every major holiday could stand to have a slasher movie themed around it, especially one with a sunny disposition masquerading the grim truth behind it like Thanksgiving. Such was Eli Roth's thinking when he made his fake "Thanksgiving" movie trailer for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse" experiment back in 2007. Roth's original short is a collection of scenes of people getting brutally decapitated over the Thanksgiving holiday frame by a serial killer dressed as a Pilgrim. It's grotesque, juvenile, and tasteless. In other words, it's everything you either love or hate about Eli Roth's horror work in general.
16 years later, Roth has finally gone and turned "Thanksgiving" into a full-fledged film, just like the fake "Grindhouse" trailers turned actual films "Machete" and "Hobo with a Shotgun" before it. Roth's slasher also marks his return to the realm of hard R-rated genre fare after his brief detour into...

It’s not just a turkey that gets carved in the teaser trailer for Sony Pictures’ holiday-themed horror offering Thanksgiving.
The slasher film from director Eli Roth hits theaters Nov. 17 and stars Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae. Thanksgiving is based on a fake trailer that Roth made for co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s 2007 film Grindhouse.
Thanksgiving focuses on a serial killer heading to a small Massachusetts town with the goal of making the titular holiday a bloody one. The cast includes Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Milo Manheim, Gina Gershon, Tim Dillon and Rick Hoffman.
“Thanksgiving is a time for appreciation,” Hoffman’s character says in the teaser. “It’s a time to remember our many blessings — to celebrate with the ones that we love the most — and a time for all families to be together.”
The spot shows an axe-wielding villain in a pilgrim hat wreaking havoc on the town’s denizens,...

Eli Roth’s upcoming holiday-themed slasher “Thanksgiving” is nearly here and the first trailer has been delivered, piping hot from the oven. You can watch it above.
“Thanksgiving” has had an unusual journey – it began life as a fake trailer that was included as part of “Grindhouse,” the double-feature from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino that also included interstitial material from Roth, Edgar Wright and Rob Zombie. That trailer had the movie take on the look and feel of one of the plethora of holiday-themed slasher movies that were released in the wake of “Halloween” in 1978. Most memorably, there was a moment where a girl is jumping on a trampoline and gets the shears to her nether-regions (recreated in the new trailer).
In the earlier version of “Thanksgiving,” Michael Biehn played the sheriff, with other characters played by Jordan Ladd and Jay Hernandez. This feature-length version of the movie stars Patrick Dempsey as the sheriff,...
