Susan Sarandon and Jim Broadbent have joined the all-star cast of $100m movie Cloud Atlas, an adaptation of the David Mitchell novel.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, they join Wachowski brothers favourite Hugo Weaving, as well as Halle Berry, Tom Hanks and British actor Ben Wishaw.
The script has been co-written by the Wachowski brothers, creators of the Matrix trilogy, and Tom Twyker, the German director who made Run, Lola, Run and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (which also starred Wishaw).
The epic novel follows six storylines, stretching from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic future, each set in a distinctly different time and place.
Various characters narrate including, a 19th century American notary, a poor British musician in the 1930s, a journalist in 1970s California, a vanity press publisher in the early 21st century, a rebellious clone in the near future and a primitive Hawaiian tribesman surviving after the apocalypse.
