Disney films are the ones to beat at the 49th annual Annie Awards, whose nominations were announced Tuesday morning. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Raya and the Last Dragon and Encanto scored a leading 10 and nine noms, respectively, followed by Pixar’s Luca with eight.
Sony & Netflix’s The Mitchells vs. the Machines also landed eight noms and will vie for the marquee Best Feature prize with those Disney titles and Illumination’s Sing 2, which scored just the one nom.
Gkids distributes three of the four pics up for Best Indie feature: Belle, Pompo the Cinephile and Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko. They will battle against Flee, which is Denmark’s official entry for the International Feature Oscar, and Netflix’s The Summit of the Gods.

With barely a passing mention of Caleb Kennedy, the contestant disqualified just days ago for appearing in a racist video, American Idol soldiered on this Sunday to reveal the trio of singers competing in next week’s season finale.
As always, let’s jump straight to the results: In a somewhat shocking turn of events, Casey Bishop was eliminated from the competition, leaving Chayce Beckham, Willie Spence and Grace Kinstler as the Top 3 of Season 19.

Chicago – A couple weeks ago, Netflix released for streaming the new animated film “Arlo the Alligator Boy” and immediately it went to 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (including a 4.5/5 on this forum). This fresh, delightful and full-of heart “2D” cartoon musical is the product of creator and director Ryan Crego.
Although this is Ryan Crego’s debut animated film, he is a veteran in the industry. He tells the story of his origins in the business on the interview, but his first big break came with Dreamwork’s “Shrek Forever After.” From there he worked on notable film and TV projects such as “Puss in Boots,” “Kung Fu Panther 2.” “Peabody & Sherman,” “Sanjay and Craig,” in addition to voice work on “Rise of the Guardians” and “Turbo.” The characters of Arlo and his friends will break out into their own Netflix series, with a release date yet to come.

We laughed. We cried. We laughed some more. Thanks, Katy Perry!
The “American Idol” finale may have been a little lackluster in terms of star power, but the judge in the middle seat — when she could endure sitting in it for more than a minute — more than made up for it. Whether it was begging Bachelorette contender Becca Kufrin for her hand — and a chance to compete on the ABC show — or spinning herself silly after the revelation that Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe are now a couple, or mock fawning over hottie Trevor Holmes, who showed up again in a cute video sendup of Richle’s “Hello” with Ada Vox and Noah Davis, between Perry’s snappy retorts, her physical comedy or her pop culture know-how, there was not a dull moment.
But even beyond the judges’ table, creative pairings (Katy and Catie) and natural ones (Ada Vox...

“American Idol” has announced the lineup for the season finale, airing Sunday (May 20) and Monday (May 21) on ABC.
The show will feature performances from all three judges, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, along with Bebe Rexha, Nick Jonas and Mustard, Patti Labelle, Darius Rucker, Gary Clark, Jr. and Yolanda Adams. Kermit the Frog, the popular pillar of Disney’s The Muppets franchise, is also set to appear.
The top 10 finalists — Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Maddie Poppe, Gabby Barrett, Cade Foehner, Catie Turner, Michael Woodard, Dennis Lorenzo, Jurnee, Michelle Sussett and Ada Vox — will take the stage as well.
As far as song choices, Turner already revealed on Twitter that she will be performing an original. Songwriter Ely Rise, who has written for “Idol” alums Adam Lambert and Elliott Yamin, also announced on social media that he already contributed a song for Woodard. An ABC rep says there will be no “judges’ picks.
