Exclusive: Award-winning documentary filmmaker Lysa Heslov (Served Like a Girl) has signed with Gersh, also announcing that she’ll soon make her narrative feature directorial debut with Reinhard Denke’s 2009 Black List script, Sex, Greed, Money, Murder and Chicken Fried Steak.
The film is based on a true-crime story billed as the most notorious and shocking ever to come out of the state of Texas. It follows an idealistic young Da who comes up against wealth, corruption, and that “good ol’ boy” culture of the 1970s when he sets out to bring oil tycoon and accused murderer T. Cullen Davis to justice. Davis was, at the time, believed to be the richest man ever to have been tried for murder in the United States.
This will also be the first feature from the Dallas, Texas-based financier Amicus Pictures — a grassroots investment firm that sees an opportunity in the global marketplace...

Exclusive: La-based producer and sales firm Clear Horizon is lining up a historical drama about the Symbionese Liberation Army and its kidnapping of heiress Patty Hearst.
Mizmoon will tell the story of Patricia ‘Mizmoon’ Soltisyk, the radicalized college co-ed who co-founded the terrorist group with her lesbian lover and an escaped convict with an obsession for guns and explosives. The group famously carried out bank robberies and murders in the 1970s and kidnapped heiress Hearst, the granddaughter of American publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst. Soltysik was one of the six Sla members killed in a shootout with the Lapd in the mid 70s.
Clear Horizon founder David Brown, an executive producer on recent Julianne Moore-Michelle Williams adaptation After The Wedding, will make his directorial debut on the project, which he will produce with Cynthia Greening and Todd Lundbohm. Script comes from Greening and Tony Clarno, with revisions by Reinhard Denke.
The project is out to cast. Shoot is scheduled for Los Angeles later this year, cast and Covid-19 permitting. We are told the team is working off material from the public domain so have not needed to acquire life rights.
Patty Hearst and the Sla have spawned multiple screen projects over the years including a 1988 movie directed by Paul Schrader and a 2004 PBS doc by Robert Stone.
Brown recently produced The Undertaker’s Wife starring Shannyn Sossamon and John Brotherton and Chasing Nightmares starring Anne Heche and Graham McTavish.
Brown said, “Not only are we looking to push a number of our projects forward, but we want to get the word out to other filmmakers who have a need for funding or partnerships. We still have our doors open at this time.”...

Exclusive: After it was recently announced that Mark Steven Johnson is set to remake the 1980s horror film The Changeling, we’ve learned that the filmmaker is set to direct a second feature, Radiant which is based on American composer George Antheil’s autobiography Bad Boy of Music.
Adapted by Reinhard Denke, Radiant centers around early 20th century musical radical and multi-hyphenate Antheil and his unlikely friendship with movie star Hedy Lamarr. Despite their day jobs in entertainment, the two possessed an intense desire to defeat the Nazis and thus invented and patented a secret communications system in 1941 which sketched out the principle of frequency hopping which is used in most cell phones today. Their invention proved crucial to the development of modern communications as we know it, paving the way for wireless phones, Bluetooth, Gps and Wi-Fi technology itself.

While actor Michael K. Williams takes some time off from portraying old timey gangster Chalky White on “Boardwalk Empire,” he's decided to change up his loyalties by playing a lead detective in a new crime thriller based on a true story. Directed by Jerry Jameson, “Captive” sees Williams joining a cast that already includes David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers. The movie follows a single mom who's taken hostage by a murderer after struggling to gain custody of her daughter and battle her drug addiction. Good lord! The drama, written by Brian Bird and Reinhard Denke, starts shooting in North Carolina this weekend, and while we'll watch Williams in just about anything, at least here he's backed by a considerable cast as well. Interestingly enough, buried at the bottom of the article is confirmation of a rumor that's been floating around for a few months: Williams also has a role in.

Exclusive: While Michael K. Williams‘ Chalky White character seems to be becoming a larger presence on each season of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire (I am most certainly not complaining), he’s found a movie to do during his hiatus. Williams signed with Bn Films to join Captive, the thriller directed by Jerry Jameson and written by Brian Bird and Reinhard Denke. Williams joins David Oyelowo, Kate Mara, Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers. The film is a fictionalized thriller based on a well-known true story. While Ashley Smith, a single mom, struggles to overcome her drug addiction to regain custody of her daughter, she’s taken hostage by an escaped, quadruple murderer. Her only defenses: faith in God, a love for her daughter, and the book A Purpose Driven Life, parts of which she reads aloud to her captor during the harrowing ordeal. This leads to a surprising epiphany for both Ashley and the convict.
