Blanchard, Jubilant Sykes, Davell Crawford, late Marva Wright, to name
a few.
Lyle began a career briefly as an R&B DJ on New Orleans' based FM98 and simultaneously 5 years as a Gospel radio announcer in 1988 on WYLD Radio.
In 1991, he was ordained to the ministry and appointed as a worship leader, deacon, and an evangelist. He enjoys the life-long membership in New Orleans at The Church of the Living God In Unity, Bishop Warren Parker, Pastor. He began producing Gospel Brunch shows for the House of Blues in 1994.
Since 1998, Lyle Henderson & Emmanu-EL have been a regular attraction in the Gospel Tent at the world acclaimed Louisiana Jazz & Heritage Festival in New Orleans.
As a songwriter, Lyle has been called upon to assist with various studio projects (including adorning lyrics for music tracks written by Terence Blanchard). Additionally, songs penned by Lyle Henderson have received acclaim from industry magazines such as "Gospel Industry Today."
Lyle co-produced and recorded his own first CD on the Rampart Street Music/Pinnacle Entertainment project entitled, "I Cannot Go Back," in 1997. Even without major distribution, the CD sold upwards of 12,000 units in the first four quarters after its release and, while it is out of print, is still in demand. He received adds on radio stations in over 40 US markets, along with several in Perugia, Australia, and Ontario, Canada. In 1998, the CD garnered several awards for a freshman project, including the academy from his home city with the "Best of the Beat" Award. The CD project was also recognized by industry executives and icons such as Pastor Andre Crouch, being quoted to say that it represented "...only a sprinkle of Lyle's anointing." Radio programmer, Capn Kris says that Lyle's vocal clarity is reminiscent of "a Juilliard School alumnus." As a result of the CD project's success and promotion, several CDs have emerged for sale and resale on the internet through various independent sales sites. Fans in the United States, Italy, Canada, and Australia have used various internet search engines to successfully locate available CDs for sale.
Lyle Henderson & Emmanu-EL have traveled to Italy 4 times for a multi-city Italian tour, including performances at the world famous Umbria Jazz Festival. Lyle has also performed in various cities in Switzerland, Canada, Jamaica, and countless cities throughout the USA. His tenor vocals vary in style and ability ~ ranging from the silvery and classical to the gutsy and soulful, southern tradition of Gospel church music. His two major influences (Daryl Coley and the late Mahalia Jackson) are exemplified in his varied styles of vocal performance.
In 2001, his work with various non-profit organizations, his service to the community, his determination to rebuild his family home in the Holy Cross Neighborhood in the New Orleans 9th Ward, and his will to show the world a better product of the Crescent City has placed him as an ambassador of his native city.
In 2008, Lyle was commissioned by the Disney Animation Film Company to produce and 'Gospelize' a Randy Newman song, called "Dig A Little Deeper." Lyle and his special events singers, Pinnacle Gospel Choir, loaned their voices to 2 of the songs that were featured in the 2009 release of "The Princess and the Frog."
Having submitted to the disciplines of Journalism, Mass Communications, and Music Performance at Xavier University of Lousiana, Mr. Henderson is a vocalist, Worship & Praise Leader, Author, Editor, Ghostwriter, and Ordained Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He is in the studio working to complete his new CD project.
