Producers of “nerds,” an original musical abut the rivalry between tech giants Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, announced Tuesday that they were scuttling a planned Broadway opening for this spring. “On behalf of my fellow producers and investors, it is with great disappointment that we will be postponing the Broadway opening of nerds due to the loss of a major investor,” said Carl Levin, who was producing along with Vicki Halmos, Elizabeth Williams, Greenleaf Productions and Clear Channel Spectacolor. From that date, Signature will focus on theatrical releases, be they day-and-date, event or wide releases.
The Precision slate will include espionage thriller Damascus Cover staring Jonathan Rhys Myers, and sci-fi Andron staring Alec Baldwin and Danny Glover.
Signature MD Marc Goldberg told Screen the company anticipates acquiring 15 to 20 films a year onto its Signature label.

Chicago – Like the recent movie-to-stage-musical adaptations, “The Producers” and “Young Frankenstein,” Chicago has become the proving ground before a Broadway premiere. The latest is almost a no-brainer, “The First Wives Club,” adapted from the 1996 film that starred Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.
The big news is that the original song writing team of Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland (Holland-Dozier-Holland) have reunited to write new music for the show, adding to their familiar hits “Stop in the Name of Love,” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There.” 22 new songs have been added to “The First Wives Club” stage musical, representing the first new output in years from the famous songwriting trio.

Musical-theater rehab may be the theme of Broadway’s upcoming season, as The First Wives Club becomes the second show in recent weeks to emerge from turnaround following an abortive tryout (as was the case with the revised, rewritten and re-scored Finding Neverland, which is about to begin its second out-of-town run, this time at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Ma). Executive producer Elizabeth Williams and producers Jonas Neilson and Paul Lambert announced this morning that a revamped version of The First Wives Club, with a new book and a new director, will open at Chicago’s Oriental Theater next spring, aiming for a […]...
