Rayma Wilson(1910-1985)

Rayma Wilson was a Track star in Pasadena California who qualified for the 1928 Olympics for the 800 m. Although she did not make it into the final there in Amsterdam, she went on to become a PE teacher teacher and a US history teacher, and in the Navy for World War II she was a lieutenant commander. She even taught service men how to pistol- shoot on the island of Maui! She never married and said that her fiancee was killed in World War II. Her only sibling Gail Wilson was also a Track star in Pasadena and a mountain climber. Both Rayma and Gail were featured in newspaper articles in the area at the time for their Track & Field speed, and (his) mountain climbing. Rayma lived in Laguna Beach and Laguna Hills for much of her adult life. She loved hummingbirds and the Pacific ocean, playing Golf, and keeping in touch with her brother, niece and nephews' families. She had a special relationship with her beloved grand niece Diane, who was much more like a daughter. Diane visited nearly every summer as a child, flying from Florida and later driving up from San Diego. Rayma later developed arteriosclerosis, & passed away in June 1985.
