Birdland Records has just announced the release of 'A Swinging Birdland Christmas' CD. The CD was recorded live in winter 2012 during a performance of this annual holiday show at historic Birdland Jazz Club in Midtown Manhattan. 'A Swinging Birdland Christmas,' stars Birdland regulars Klea Blackhurst, Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch with special guest jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein. In the tradition of beloved seasonal specials, Blackhurst, Caruso and Stritch perform swinging arrangements by Billy Stritch of Kay Thompson's classics 'It's The Holiday Season,' 'Sleigh Ride,' and 'I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,' among other favorites. The record also features Billy Stritch on piano, John Hart on guitar, Paul Gill on bass, Carmen Intorre on drums. The album is executive produced by Birdland's Gianni Valenti.

1980s music fans, be prepared to watch this film on your feet. Rock of Ages features a rocking soundtrack, with plenty of stars too.
Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman and more. They’re all in for the fun.
The movie’s story revolves around young lovers Sherrie Christian — get it? two rocks songs in one — (Julianne Hough, Footloose) and Drew Boley (Diego Boneta, TV’s Pretty Little Liars), who have come to Los Angeles to pursue their love of music but don’t have the guts to push themselves in front of the crowd. They both work at a failing rock bar, which Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin, It’s Complicated) and Lonny (Russell Brand, Get Him to the Greek) are trying to keep afloat. Dupree seeks help from...

It’s official. Rock of Ages was a huge bomb this summer. New Line Cinema is still probably reeling from the shock and I’m pretty sure that there are quite a few people out in Hollywood who are trying to figure out where, exactly, it all went wrong.
I was actually one of the few people who did go and see the movie. For me, it was mostly curiosity. “Rock of Ages” features music that I grew up hearing, most of it on cassette tapes that various family members had purchased. I’ve seen documentaries about the Parents Music Resource Center and the resulting dustup at Congressional hearings that had an odd side-effect of making John Denver seem like a supremely cool guy. For those that may be utterly clueless to what I’m referencing there, Mr. Denver got up and spoke out about the rights of the artist...

New 'Rock Of Ages' movie delivered great comedy, drama, music & more. New Line Cinema released their new musical/comedy/drama flick "Rock Of Ages" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and it turned out to be we better than I thought it would be. It was very moving. I'm also not a fan of rock music, but they made me like it a little bit. The movie stars: Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Alec Baldwin, and Tom Cruise. In the new movie, sweet Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) moves to Los Angeles from smalltown Oklahoma in search of fortune fame, and love. Unfortunately she was introduced to a mugging upon arrival. However, character Drew Boley (Diego Boneta), dashed to her rescue, getting her a job, waitressing at the legendary night club called "The Bourbon Room." The owner of the club,...

Rock Of Ages is the latest stage musical to be adapted for the big screen in the wake of the enormous success of Chicago over ten years ago ( wow! ). It bucks the popular current trend on Broadway in that it’s not based on a film, so we’re not getting the full-circle vibe from The Producers and Hairspray ( although this is from that remake’s director Adam Shankman ). Ages harkens back to the shows built around known songs like ” Smokey Joe’s Cafe ” and ” Ain’t Misbehavin’” on stage and Hollywood Revue Of 1929 and Singin’ In The Rain on screen. This work takes the rock anthems from several 80′s bands and attempts to connect them in a story set in that era. It was a big hit on the Great White Way, but will movie audiences be boppin’ their heads to the beat down at the multiplex?

Time to dig out your leather chaps and ask your barber for a mullet, because Rock Of Ages is almost upon us, after premiering in London last night. The cast and crew were in attendance, and star Tom Cruise performed his usual trick of signing autographs until long after a normal person's arms would have fallen off from sheer exhaustion. Hmm, guess he is tough enough to play Jack Reacher after all. Cruise plays Stacee Jaxx in the film, the dissolute star of rock supergroup Arsenal. Also in attendance were Russell Brand, who plays nightclub staffer Lonny; Malin Akerman, who's Rolling Stone reporter Constance Sack; Mary J Blige, who plays stripclub owner Justice; Paul Giamatti, who's weasley agent Paul Gill, and finally Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta, who play smalltown girl and city boy Sherrie and Drew (respectively). Director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) also turned out for the evening, so the...

The cast is growing for Adam Shankman’s rock musical, Rock of Ages. Set in the 80s, the film already has Tom Cruise signed up as leading man and decadent rock star, Stacee Jax. Also joining him at this point are Alec Baldwin, Mary J Blige, Julianne Hough and Russell Brand and now according to Deadline a certain Oscar nominee will also be belting out a tune or two.
Amy Adams, nominated for her role in “The Fighter” is being “heavily courted” for a role in the film, in which she would play a journalist who falls for Cruise’s charms, becoming a romantic interest for the rock icon. The part was originally offered to Anne Hathaway who due to commitments on “The Dark Knight Rises” had to pull out of the production.

As he builds his cast for ‘80s-set rock musical adaptation Rock of Ages, Adam Shankman has locked in a fairly eclectic selection of performers, with Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J Blige, Julianne Hough and Russell Brand all ready to belt out tunes. Now, according to Deadline, he’s looking to find a singing (and romantic) partner for Cruise’s character, aiming to cast Amy Adams as cynical music journalist Constance Sack. After his original top choice, Anne Hathaway, took herself out of the running by jumping aboard The Dark Knight Rises, Shankman began approaching Adams to play the initially icy writer who is out to take down rocker Stacee Jaxx a peg or two, but ultimately ends up falling for his charms. Like Hathaway, she’s proved she can sing, and will apparently be musical again for the upcoming Muppet movie. And Adams isn’t the only actor now circling the film,...

There may be a couple of well-known thespians that could join up on the cast for Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages." Those two actors are Paul Giamatti and Amy Adams, both in the middle of talks to be part of the production. Based on the musical, New Line Cinema has been actively trying to get this project ready in time for a May start. If Giamatti signs up for the production, he'll be playing Paul Gill, a very charming music executive while Adams could be reporter Constance Sack who is looking to interview has-been rocker Stacee Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise). The story is about a small town girl (Hough) who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it. She catches the eye of Stacee Jaxx (Cruise), playing an arrogant rocker at the height of his career who ends up as a stripper...

Paul Giamatti is a utility guy -- you can do pretty much anything with him. The sad sack character actor and occasional lead has been many things in his movie career: Army Sergeant, ape, boxing manager, hit man, Santa Claus, President of the United States and at least two or three sad writers.
Now we can add "singer" to that repertoire.
Oh yes, Giamatti can sing, he's actually done it before in a smooth karaoke jam with Andre Braugher for 2000's "Duets." Now, as if he wasn't already legendary enough, he's hitting the big leagues playing opposite Tom Cruise in Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages."
THR reports that Giamatti is in talks to play a slick L.A. music exec named Paul Gill (at least they won't have to change his monogrammed cufflinks) in the movie of the Broadway musical. Also being courted for a role is three-time Academy...

Paul Giamatti and Amy Adams are the latest names to be associated with Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages . The Hollywood Reporter says that both actors are currently in talks to star. Based on the hit Broadway musical, the story centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club "Rock of Ages" and fall for one another against the backdrop of '80s rock anthems. The cast is currently set to include Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough and Alec Baldwin. Giamatti's role would be that of Paul Gill, a music executive responsible for Cruise's character, rock star Stacee Jaxx. Adams would, meanwhile, play an entertainment reporter who scores an interview with Jaxx. Rock of Ages will go into production shortly, aiming for a June 1, 2012 release.
