Faramarz Beheshti was a talented photographer and award-winning filmmaker. Born in Iran, he emigrated to Italy when he was four years old. Orphaned from a young age, he put himself through photography school in Milan before shifting to Dubai in the early 1980's to build his life as a photographer. There, he met his wife, Margot Peacock, with whom he started Phototechnics. He ultimately became one of the most acclaimed photographers in the Middle East, before enrolling into film school in Wellington, New Zealand to pursue his passion for film.
His first film, Salam Rugby, won many film and human rights awards, and was screened at more than 20 film festivals internationally. He was working on a new film, Hotel Bamako, about West African musical legends, The Rail Band, for the past five years but tragically passed away in Iran before finishing it.
