Is this the new feminist minimalism? Director Kelly Reichart doesn’t like labels, and to her credit as a woman director, her amalgam of three tangential short stories transcends the format in a studious, low-key way. Four interesting actresses present interesting portraits that illuminate the realities of life in the great Middle America.

Kelly Reichardt makes films that unfold at the speed of life, not Hollywood. She's a poet of the space between words, and the hypnotic and haunting Certain Women presents the writer-director at her artfully attentive best. Dropping in on the lives of three Montana women, beautifully played by Laura Dern, Michelle Williams and Kristen Stewart, Reichardt uses three short stories by Maile Meloy to spin an exquisite web.

Just last week, it was proposed that there is (currently) no better director of actors than Kelly Reichardt, which we tend to agree with. This notion is further on display with her latest film, Certain Women, which tells three very loosely connected stories featuring Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, Kristen Stewart, Lily Gladstone, James LeGros, and Jared Harris. Ahead of screenings at Tiff and Nyff, and a release in October, IFC Films has now released the first trailer.
As I said in my review, “The cinema of Kelly Reichardt lives in quiet, tender observations with deeply rooted characters and location. Even when adding a thriller element as with her last feature, the overlooked Night Moves, her style is never compromised. Her latest feature, Certain Women, is a loosely connected three-part drama adapted from the short stories of Maile Meloy. It’s perhaps the purest distillation of her sensibilities yet as she...

The reigning queen of American independent cinema has a rich history with Sundance — she premiered her debut film 1994’s River of Grass (which was recently digitally restoration) and Old Joy (2006) there and saw 2010’s Venice-tiff-nyff preemed Meek’s Cutoff find additionally play but the chances of seeing Kelly Reichardt’s sixth feature film premiere in Park City are highly unlikely. Shot the past spring in Montana with stalwarts Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, Laura Dern, James Le Gros, Jared Harris and Rosanna Arquette, we’re more inclined to think that the Altmanesque-sounding Livingston is best suited for Cannes and what would be Reichardt’s first Main Competition bid. Based on the NYTimes best of 2009 short story collection Both Ways is the Only Way I Want It, Spwa recently landed the international rights to the picture.

Kristen Stewart joins Untitled Kelly Reichardt Project (photo: Kristen Stewart in 'Clouds of Sils Maria') This news bit has been everywhere online, but just in case you've missed it: History-making César Award winner Kristen Stewart has joined three-time Oscar-nominee Michelle Williams and two-time Oscar nominee Laura Dern in an as yet untitled drama set in Montana and to be directed by Kelly Reichardt.* Deadline.com first broke the story last week (Feb. 27, 2015). If all goes as planned, Kristen Stewart will play Boise lawyer Beth, who, nervous after accepting a teaching position in a small Montana town, befriends a local woman, Jamie, auditing her class.† Kelly Reichardt's usual partners Neil Kopp and Anish Savjani are producing the project, which is supposed to consist of a series of vignettes based on short stories by Maile Meloy. Also in the cast: James Le Gros (Point Break), Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows...

I want to like Kelly Reichardt more than I do. She has a firm grasp over the tone and look of her films, but they just never grab me like I think they should. I still need to see her latest film, Night Moves, and maybe that one will change my mind. Regardless if I like her films or not, I am still interested in what she makes, which brings me to the subject of this article. Kristen Stewart has signed up to join Reichardt's next film alongside Michelle Williams and Laura Dern. This may not excite some people, as there is a fairly strong anti-Kristen Stewart group out there, but I am on the side of really liking her. People just need to leave Twilight behind forever in their memories and look to her other stuff. Her performances in things like Adventureland, On the Road, and Still Alice...

Night Moves director Kelly Reichardt does not yet have a title for her new drama. But she has still been building an impressive cast of previous collaborators and new faces, with Michelle Williams, Jared Harris, Laura Dern, James Le Gros and Sara Rodier all aboard. Now Kristen Stewart will join them in the eventual film. For this one, Reichardt is headed to the wide-open plains of Montana, and the small towns that dot the expansive countryside. Adapting the short stories of Maile Meloy, the writer-director plans a series of vignettes that involve people from one particular town.Stewart will be Beth, a young lawyer who has arrived from Idaho. Taking a teaching job that means a commute several hours from her house, she confronts her nerves about switching careers and befriends a woman named Jamie who is auditing her class. There are no details yet on what Williams, Dern, Harris...

School's out for Bad Teacher -- even earlier than expected. CBS has decided to pull their cancelled comedy from the schedule effective immediately.
On Bad Teacher, a former trophy wife (Ari Graynor) masquerades as a teacher in order to find a new man to marry. The rest of the cast includes Kristin Davis, David Alan Grier, Sara Gilbert, Ryan Hansen, and Sara Rodier.
The network cancelled Bad Teacher earlier this month but it looked like they'd let all of the remaining episodes air. Not so.
For the immediate future, they're replacing Bad Teacher with reruns of The Millers, a Thursday night comedy that has been renewed for a second season.
There are eight unaired episodes of Bad Teacher remaining and CBS hasn't announced any plans to make them available as yet.

CBS has had mixed success with new sitcoms this season. The Crazy Ones looks like it could be cancelled because the ratings weren't high enough. How will Bad Teacher perform? Will it be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
On Bad Teacher, a former trophy wife (Ari Graynor) masquerades as a teacher in order to find a new man to marry. The rest of the cast includes Kristin Davis, David Alan Grier, Sara Gilbert, Ryan Hansen, and Sara Rodier.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest.

Class dismissed. It didn't take CBS long to decide on the fate of Bad Teacher. The new sitcom has been cancelled by the network.
On Bad Teacher, a former trophy wife (Ari Graynor) masquerades as a teacher in order to find a new man to marry. The rest of the cast includes Kristin Davis, David Alan Grier, Sara Gilbert, Ryan Hansen, and Sara Rodier.
The series got off to a decent start late last month but the ratings have fallen in the two subsequent weeks. The most recent episode drew a lowly 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.73 million viewers. That's much too low to garner a second season renewal.
It's unclear at this point if all of the remaining episodes will air. The network ordered 13 installments, has aired three, and still has three more on the schedule. Hopefully,...

CBS's new comedy, “Bad Teacher,” follows the antics of a newly divorced woman who weasels her into a teaching job at a junior high school in order to meet hot single dads. Starring Ari Graynor as Meredith Davis, the series tracks the fake teacher as she maneuvers through the politics of both the school's faculty, but also that of the student body. School's in session and Ari Graynor is at the head of the class in CBS's new comedy Bad Teacher. Based on the movie of the same name, Graynor stars as Meredith Davis, a desperate (sort of gold-digger) woman who fakes her way into a teaching position with zero credentials. At the school, she manages to wrap everyone around her finger, including Irene (Sara Gilbert) and Principal Carl Gaines (David Alan Grier), but Ginny (Kristin Davis) is immune to her charm and suspects not everything is kosher with Meredith and sets out to expose her.
