Racism and abandonment form the crux of the deeply tragic horror story Them: The Scare. Sadly, though, the two extremely important subject matters don’t quite gel well, thanks to the writers’ inability to find a seamless blend. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad show, though; it’s just that the latest season of Prime Video’s horror anthology series falls quite short of being something truly great. The in-your-face yellow filter also plays a role in that. It would have been much better had the show done away with it. What really works is the absolutely terrific acting performance by the cast, led by the magnificent Deborah Ayorinde, who returns to play a new character. Pam Grier is very impressive as the mother of Ayorinde’s lead, although she could have been utilized a lot more. And never in my life would I have imagined seeing someone...

A twin brother and sister get separated in childhood. The sister, however, is raised by a decent family and goes on to become a police officer. The brother, sadly, gets the short end of the stick and eventually turns into a psychopathic serial killer. The second season of Prime Video’s Them, titled The Scare, can be summed up with just this much, but there is an obvious horror element playing at large. The “scare” in the title points to this supernatural entity, which consumes the brother and tries to do the same with the sister. In this article, we’re going to put the ending of the show under the microscope and also look into the themes of this season. There will be major spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t watched it yet, please stop reading this article at this point.

You've just got to move on; I'm trying not to think about it anymore: Harry Brook on Odi Wc omission
London, Aug 19 (Ians) Young right-handed batter Harry Brook opened up about him missing out on England’s provisional squad for the upcoming Men’s Odi World Cup in India, saying that he is trying not to think about it and needs to just move on from it.
Earlier this week, Brook was left out from England’s Odi squad, also to face New Zealand in a series at home, in favour of talismanic all-rounder Ben Stokes, who came out of his Odi retirement in England’s quest to defend their championship title in India, won four years ago on home soil.
“Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now. You’ve just got to move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore. I’ve not had much conversation with Matthew (Mott) or Jos (Buttler). They said with Stokesy coming back I was...

New Delhi, Aug 16 (Ians) Reacting to reports about England Test captain Ben Stokes possible U-Turn on Odi retirement to play the World Cup, India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin reckons that T20I skipper Jos Buttler will convince Stokes to return for the marquee tournament later this year.
According to British media, Stokes might reconsider reversing his Odi retirement with the intention of joining the upcoming World Cup set to take place in India.
The reports come a day after England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott said Buttler Buttler will have a chat with Stokes to see if he is willing to reconsider his Odi retirement.
“Jos will probably lead the way on that communication, but Ben’s pretty straight with all of us. We will see if he’s keen,” Mott had told Daily Mail in an interview last week.

New Delhi, Aug 13 (Ians) England coach Matthew Mott has said he is open to including Test captain Ben Stokes in the World Cup squad based solely on his batting prowess and revealed that limited-overs captain Jos Buttler will have a chat with Stokes to see if he is willing to reconsider his Odi retirement.
Stokes retired from ODIs in July last year and recently reiterated his intentions of staying retired from the 50-over format to be fit for the Test series against India in early 2024.
The all-rounder was one of the heroes for England in the 2019 edition of the mega event, winning the Player of the Match in the Final for his memorable unbeaten 84.

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Reminded That No, ‘The Hunger Games’ Wasn’t the First Female-Led Action Movie
Jennifer Lawrence invited pushback on social media today after stating in an interview between herself and Viola Davis that Katniss Everdeen was essentially the first female action hero.
While the conversation with fellow actress Viola Davis covers a number of subjects, the excerpt Variety chose to excerpt was of the “Winter’s Bone” and “Causeway” star stating that “I remember doing ‘Hunger Games,’ nobody ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie before.”
That provably incorrect statement unleashed a deluge of online pushback, with responders throwing out various examples of big action movies with female leads. Variety eventually took down the offending tweet, a rare move in a media ecosystem that sometimes prioritizes outrage-driven engagement.

New Delhi, Nov 15 (Ians) England head coach Matthew Mott has expressed his desire to see star all-rounder Ben Stokes reversing his Odi retirement in order to strengthen their squad for the 2023 Odi World Cup in India.
Stokes had announced his decision to call curtains on his Odi career earlier this year, citing the difficult workload of playing in three formats as the reason behind it.
The 31-year-old is the captain of the England Test side, which has seen a change in fortunes ever since he took charge a few months back alongside coach Brendon McCullum.
But Stokes’ heroics in the final of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 against Pakistan, where he played an unbeaten knock of 52 to guide England to their second title in the history of the tournament, once again led to calls for reversing his Odi retirement.

Melbourne, Nov 13 (Ians) After captaining England to their second Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in his first major tournament as the captain, Jos Buttler credited the victory to the side enjoying the rewards of a long journey with some changes over the years.
England’s white-ball revolution in 2015 culminated in Eoin Morgan winning the 2019 Odi World Cup at home. But that has now converted into absolute domination with Buttler now carrying that legacy successfully with a five-wicket win over Pakistan at the McG on Sunday.
The win also makes England the first team in history of men’s international cricket to hold both 50-over and 20-over World Cups at the same time, and unarguably the best white-ball side in the world.

Melbourne, Nov 13 (Ians) With England and Pakistan — the Men’s T20 World Cup finalists — firmly committed to seeing the spectators at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG) and the global audience get to enjoy the summit clash later on Sunday amid the threat of inclement weather, the Icc has decided to further extend the playing time by one hour.
Heavy rain is predicted later on Sunday in Melbourne and the forecast is bleak for the reserve day on Monday as well.
On Saturday, England coach Matthew Mott had affirmed that his side will do everything possible to play and not have to share the trophy because of the prediction of rain. “We’ll do everything we can to play, I don’t think any of us would like to be joint winners. I think there’s an appetite from both teams that we’ll have to crack on at some point,...

Melbourne, Nov 11 (Ians) England coach Matthew Mott on Friday said that the team management “will keep an open mind” over the availability of pacer Mark Wood and batter Dawid Malan for Sunday’s Men’s T20 World Cup final against Pakistan at the McG, adding that he will “maintain a little bit of hope for them”.
Both Wood and Malan suffered injuries during England’s final Super 12s game against Sri Lanka in Sydney. They were replaced in the playing XI by Chris Jordan and Phil Salt respectively for the semifinal against India in Adelaide on Thursday.
“We’ll keep an open mind. It’s a short turnaround again: a travel day and then almost straight into it with one training session. There’s not a lot of time for them,” Mott told the BBC after the England team’s travel to Melbourne on Friday.

Melbourne, Oct 18 (Ians) England Test skipper Ben Stokes’ return to the T20I setup has added to Jos Buttler’s selection dilemma ahead of the Icc T20 World Cup, with the white-ball captain wanting to play the charismatic allrounder at the top of the order while also realising it could create an imbalance in the bowling department on bouncy Australian pitches.
“He (Stokes) is someone we want to try to give as much opportunity to impact the game as possible, try to get him up the order as high as we can,” Buttler was quoted as saying by Icc on Tuesday. “We’re looking to give him as much responsibility as possible and allow him to play his way to get the best out of him.”
With Alex Hales likely to partner Buttler as the top of the batting order and Dawid Malan almost certain to come in at No.

London, Oct 5 (Ians) With England white-ball captain Jos Buttler keen to have Ben Stokes as a permanent member of the ‘top four’, the 31-year-old all-rounder will bat at No.4 in the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia, a position he has never batted at in the 34 T20Is so far.
England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott too said Stokes had been shuffling up and down the order during his career and that he wanted to give a clear role to the Test captain, who missed the seven-match T20I series against Pakistan recently and joined the T20 World Cup squad in Australia directly.
“One of the things that’s been said for a while is that he (Stokes) hasn’t had a clear role,” Mott was quoted as saying by The Cricketer.
“And Jos (Buttler) in particular is clear that he’s a top-four player. Those conditions in Australia will suit the way he plays.

Lahore, Oct 3 (Ians) England’s white-ball head coach Matthew Mott believes the victory in the T20I series decider over Pakistan is a massive confidence boost for his team ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia later this month.
After being inserted into batting first, England amassed a massive 209/3 and then restricted Pakistan to 142/8 to win the series decider by 67 runs and clinch the seven-match series 4-3.
“We certainly came over here for the seven-match series with a really clear plan to take it deep and see if we could rotate our squad through, leading obviously to a World Cup. I couldn’t have asked for much more to be honest, I think Moeen Ali, in particular, has captained extremely well.”

Lahore, Sep 27 (Ians) England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler is likely to miss all seven matches in the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan, with head coach Matthew Mott saying he is not willing to take any risk with the injured player just weeks before the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia next month.
Buttler is still recovering from a calf injury he picked up while playing domestic cricket in England and the charismatic right-handed batter hasn’t played any international cricket since he led the national side against South Africa in a T20I in Southampton in July-end.
Buttler, who is accompanying the white-ball side to Pakistan despite the injury and veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali is leading in his absence, was expected to play at least a couple of games in the crucial build-up series before the T20 World Cup, but with coach Mott taking an extremely cautious approach, the...

Karachi, Sep 26 (Ians) England head coach Matthew Mott praised left-arm spin all-rounder Liam Dawson’s fighting cameo of 34, terming it “special” despite facing a narrow three-run defeat to Pakistan in the fourth T20I at the National Stadium.
In the chase of 167, England needed 33 off the last three overs with three wickets in hand. Dawson got England ahead in the match as he smashed Mohammad Hasnain for a six and four straight fours to take 24 runs off the 18th over. He then took another boundary off Haris Rauf in the penultimate over to get the equation down to five runs off just ten balls.
But on the very next ball, Dawson tried to pull a fiery short ball, which went straight to mid-wicket fielder, ending his cameo at 34 off just 17 balls coming at a strike-rate of 200. It was a superlative effort from Dawson, who had a previous top score of 10 in T20Is.

Lahore, Sep 18 (Ians) England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has said winning the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia later this year was the team’s goal, and that all-rounder Ben Stokes and the returning Alex Hales do not need to be ‘best mates’ as Jos Buttler’s side bids to add the 20-over trophy to the Odi World Cup they won in 2019.
The 33-year-old Hales was recently included in the England T20 squad for the seven-match series against Pakistan followed by the T20 World Cup in Australia after the opening batter returned to the side following three years in cricketing wilderness due to a recreational drug misdemeanour just before the 2019 50-over World Cup.
