Former Netflix series Uncoupled won’t be going forward at Showtime after all.
The news comes a year after Showtime revived the comedy — which is produced by Paramount Global sibling MTV Entertainment Studios — following a cancellation at Netflix. The decision to scuttle the show comes after some work to rejigger it to fit the sensibilities of Showtime — now known as Paramount+ With Showtime after the premium cable outlet was integrated into Paramount’s flagship streaming platform.
Reps for Showtime couldn’t be reached for comment.
Season two of Uncoupled, which stars Neil Patrick Harris as a man trying to put his life back together after breraking up with his long-time boyfriend (Tuc Watkins), had been slated to film last summer but was delayed during dual strikes by writers and actors. Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks and Marcia Gay Harden also starred in season one.

Showtime won’t be coming to Uncoupled‘s rescue after all. The cabler has opted not to move forward with a second season of Neil Patrick Harris’ divorce comedy, which it previously saved after it was first canceled by Netflix, our sister site Deadline reports.
Uncoupled followed Nph as New York City real estate agent Michael Lawson, who suddenly found himself single after being unceremoniously dumped by longtime boyfriend Colin McKenna. The comedy’s eight-episode first (and now only) season ended with Colin returning to their apartment and telling Michael that he made a huge “mistake.”

In the type of trade you’d expect see in the NFL, Netflix and Showtime performed an unexpected show swap this Friday. Netflix’s “Uncoupled” has been picked up from cancellation by Showtime and will return for Season 2 at the channel, while Showtime’s unaired “Ripley” will now premiere on Netflix.
Now, Netflix and Showtime didn’t literally trade the shows for each other, but negotiations for the placement of both shows were apparently occurring parallel to each other, with news happening to break on the same day. “Ripley,” which was first ordered to series in September 2019 and stars Andrew Scott, has reportedly begun post-production on its eight-episode season. “Uncoupled” starring Neil Patrick Harris premiered its first season last July, and was canceled by Netflix last month.
Sources at Netflix confirmed to IndieWire that “Ripley” will premiere on the streamer. Sources at Showtime confirmed to IndieWire that “Uncoupled” has been picked up at the network.

The comedy series Uncoupled has found a new partner.
About a month after Netflix canceled the comedy series starring Neil Patrick Harris, Showtime has revived the show with a second-season pickup. Uncoupled comes from MTV Entertainment Studios, which like Showtime is part of Paramount Global.
The news also comes hours after another series — Ripley, based on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley novels — went the other direction, moving from Showtime to Netflix.
Created by Darren Star, who has an overall deal at Paramount Global, and Jeffrey Richman, Uncoupled stars Harris as a man who tries to rebuild his life after his long-time boyfriend (Tuc Watkins) moves out. Tisha Campbell, Brooks Ashmanskas, Emerson Brooks and Marcia Gay Harden also star.

Netflix is separating from Uncoupled.
The streamer has to decided to cancel Darren Star and Jeremy Richman’s rom-com series after one season, which premiered on July 29, 2022. The news doesn’t come as a total surprise, since the show didn’t make waves on Netflix the way some of its other originals have in the last few months and only made the streamer’s internal top 10 once the week it came out.
Uncoupled stars Neil Patrick Harris as Micahel Lawson, a successful real estate agent, who seemed to have it all — a supportive family, close friends and a loving, 17-year relationship with Colin (Tuc Watkins).
“But when Colin unexpectedly moves out on the eve of his 50th birthday, Michael is completely blindsided,” the show’s logline reads. “Overnight, he has to confront two nightmares: losing the man he thought was his soulmate, and suddenly finding himself a single gay man...

Netflix is not proceeding with a second season of Uncoupled, its comedy series from Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Modern Family veteran Jeffrey Richman.
The cancellation is not surprising. The series, starring Neil Patrick Harris, barely registered on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 rankings, making a single appearance at #6 following its July 29 release. (Half-hour series are at a disadvantage in the ratings system employed by Netflix which measures hours viewed.)
Speculation that Uncoupled would not be continue at Netflix started late last year when sources indicated that there was an effort by series producer MTV Entertainment Studios to find a new home. The plan to move the series to a Paramount Global network, possibly Showtime, fall through, I hear.
Meanwhile, Netflix remains in business with Star as his comedy Emily in Paris continues to deliver big audiences, with its current third season making the Netflix Top 10 in 93 countries. The...

The trailer for season three of Netflix’s Emily in Paris finds the titular character attempting to figure out what direction to take with her career and with her personal life.
“This season has everything that I love from the first two seasons, but elevated to an even higher level,” says Lily Collins. “The other characters get to flourish, as well. In addition to Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, the third season stars Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie Grateau, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, Ashley Park as Mindy Chen, and Camille Razat as Camille. Four years ago, it was announced that Universal was moving forward with a remake of their 1996 teen stalker thriller Fear (watch it Here), which starred Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon. Fear producer Brian Grazer was back to produce the new version, which got far enough that Straight Outta Compton‘s Jonathan Herman was writing the screenplay and Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) was cast in the lead role. Then it fell apart… But there’s still life in Fear. Variety has broken the news that a series inspired by the film is now in development at the Peacock streaming service, coming our way from Universal Television.
Jessica Goldberg, creator of the Hulu series The Path, is writing and executive producing this new take on Fear, which has the following synopsis:

Universal is re-imagining Fear, the 1996 thriller that starred Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon, with an upcoming Peacock series, Deadline reports this afternoon.
In the James Foley-directed film, Mark Wahlberg played David, an initially charming young man whose extreme dark side soon rears its ugly head.
The series adaptation of the 1990s thriller comes courtesy of “The Path” creator Jessica Goldberg, along with Imagine Television and Universal TV.
Deadline details, “The modern series reinvention finds two young lovers in a psychological game of cat and mouse—but who’s the cat, and who’s the mouse? When David and Nicole first meet in Seattle, it feels like an epic, once-in-a-lifetime romance – but soon it becomes clear that the seemingly perfect couple is anything but.
“Told from conflicting points of view, the series wrestles with personal demons, hidden agendas and reframes the “he said she said” convention into a twist-filled suspense story about toxic relationships.

Emily in Paris exec Lilly Burns has predicted more U.S. and UK production companies will co-produce together as she unearths how Jax Media and UK indie Dancing Ledge Productions came together to bring Disney+’s Wedding Season to screen.
The genre-bending action comedy is the first UK Disney+ original to launch and rolls out on adult-skewing vertical Star and Hulu in the U.S. from September 8.
Described by Burns as “Four Weddings and a Funeral meets Die Hard” and starring Canadian-American Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar and Irishman Gavin Drea (Vikings: Valhalla), Wedding Season is a rare co-production between a U.S. producer, Jax, and Chris Carey’s Fremantle-backed UK indie Dancing Ledge, which he runs with Laurence Bowen.
Jax worked with French production services outfit First Step on Netflix smash Emily in Paris and Burns said deep-pocketed streamer shows are “elevated” by having producers from different countries behind them.

Disney+ is giving fans a first look at upcoming U.K. original series “Wedding Season” in a new trailer.
Not to be confused with the recent Netflix film, Disney+’s “Wedding Season” is a “genre busting” eight-part dark comedy that sees a bride’s new family poisoned on the night of her wedding.
The Maze Runner franchise’s Rosa Salazar plays Katie, who meets Stefan (Gavin Drea of “Vikings: Valhalla”) at a wedding. On the night of her wedding, Katie’s new husband is mysteriously found dead – along with his entire family – and Stefan quickly becomes the main suspect.

The 10-episode half-hour dramedy tells the story of two best friends who accidentally build one of the largest fake ID businesses in North America. Deploying regular fourth wall breaks, “Fakes” traces the unraveling of their relationship in tandem with their skyrocketing success. As they get involved with a shady store employee that moves their products and blow through their mounting stacks of cash, the empire spirals out of control — eventually leading to one of the girl’s being jailed.
