Jene Nelson grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. She is the daughter of a
single mother, Betty Nelson. Jene studied mass communications in
college and went on to become a multiple Emmy Award winning journalist.
She has more than twenty years of experience as a news producer and
writer. Her work has received recognition on local, regional and
national levels. Jene's first job in television was hosting an
afternoon movie for which she was paid twenty dollars a day. Jene is
passionate about fair and humane treatment of all living things and as
a result, spent a year working on the documentary, I Breathe, which is
about the commercial dog breeding industry. Jene is a former Miss
Colorado USA and competed in the 1979 Miss USA Pageant in Biloxi,
Mississippi. She is a Colorado native and lives in the Denver metro
area with two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and a Siamese cat.
