Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi starred in four Doctor Who Christmas specials each. We revisit Steven Moffat's festive scripts...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Steven Moffat’s first Christmas-y contribution to Doctor Who comes near the end of his second episode, The Doctor Dances, when Rose Tyler compares a jolly Doctor to Santa Claus. “Who says I’m not, red bicycle when you were 12?” comes the cheeky reply.
Comparisons between the Doctor and Father Christmas go all the way back to Moffat’s Comic Relief sketch The Curse Of Fatal Death and continue all the way throughout his tenure as head writer and executive producer, particularly in his seasonal specials. Having inherited the tradition, he upheld it very well.
Like Russell T. Davies before him, Moffat didn’t treat the Christmas special as a trifle or a passing fancy, but as a proper episode of Doctor Who.

Alex Kingston’s River Song will join Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor for a new audio adventure with Big Finish. Also, Churchill is back...
Exciting news here – the rumoured return for River Song to Doctor Who has been confirmed, but not in the way you might expect. Alex Kingston’s character won’t be teaming up with Peter Capaldi on TV, but instead joining Paul McGann in the audio world of Big Finish.
River will join the eighth Doctor, as well as his companions Liv (Nicola Walker) and Helen (Hattie Morahan) for Doctor Who: Doom Coalition 2. Seeing as this Doctor hasn’t met River yet (David Tennant’s version, in Silence In The Library, was the first to meet her), River will have to help him without revealing too much about herself.
“The idea of River meeting previous Doctors was actually proposed by Steven Moffat,” producer David Richardson said.

If horror movies have taught us anything, it's that killers can never actually be killed with attempts to end their lives only making them more pissed off. Serving as further proof of that fact is the upcoming UK thriller Scar Tissue, which has been given both a release date and a teaser trailer. Dig it!
Scar Tissue has been dated for UK theatrical release on July 25th, followed by a DVD/VOD roll-out on August 4th. At the present time no Us release has been announced.
Written and directed by Scott Michell, the film stars Danny Horn, Charity Wakefield, Kenneth Colley, Daniel Fraser, Helen George, Mark Cameron, Imogen Bain, and Shaun Dingwall.

Kazran Sardick
Portrayed by: Michael Gambon, Danny Horn, Laurence Belcher
Doctor: Eleventh Doctor
Story: “A Christmas Carol” (Dec, 2010)
Background: Kazran Sardick was raised by an abusive father, Elliot, who was absolutely focused on profit. Kazran, like his father before him, controls the airspace of Sardicktown and has grown into a very Ebenezer Scrooge-like character when he first meets the Doctor, who needs his permission so the crashing ship Amy and Rory are on can safely land. The Doctor, presumably inspired by A Christmas Carol (he is a Dickens fanboy, after all), decides to give Kazran the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future treatment, rewriting much of his childhood, to turn him into the kind of man who will allow the ship to land.
Family/Friends: We meet Kazran’s physically and emotionally abusive father, but we don’t find out about any other family members, implying that Kazran grew up incredibly isolated.

Hammer made a nice little comeback last year with The Woman in Black. While I wasn’t the hugest fan of the film, I dug the atmosphere it brought to audiences. It also felt like British Horror, something I admired even more. Hammer has created six audio dramas that vary from 30 to 45 minutes each and will be released in a digipack later this week. If you order the digipack, you will get the audio files immediately. You can also buy the tracks individually if you want to give one of them a listen. Between this and Tales from Beyond the Pale, it’s nice to see horror audio making a comeback. We have included toggles below which include synopses & links below.

*spoiler alert Director: Jeffery Scott Lando. Writer: David Reed. Cast: Eddie McClintock, Amy Bailey and Christian Hammerdorfer. SyFy Network must have decided that no tagline is required with a title like the Boogeyman. This latest offering does not really stand out from a line of films that includes a version from Stephen King and Stephen Kay. If one isn’t enough, apparently Kay’s version was interesting enough to spawn two more films. Just how one amorphous creature managed to spawn into a huge line of unrelated films is as perplexing as this latest incarnation. With what writer David Reed tries to do is to relate the legend of Cain and Abel, Adam and Eve’s first children, into the lore of what kinds of monsters can torment young adults if they do not behave. His tale does not instill the fear of God amongst the masses. When Sheriff Michael’s (Eddie McClintock) two sons,...

Katherine Jenkins has described a kissing scene involving her character in the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special as the most terrifying moment of her career. The opera singer was required to kiss actor Danny Horn as part of the festive instalment, but she admits that she was uncomfortable about filming the intimate moment. "The kissing was the most stressful part of the whole thing," she said. "My mum's got to watch that on Christmas Day! "I really don't know how it's going to come across. I just want to get that bit out of the way. It was by far the most nerve-wracking thing I've ever done." Jenkins went on to say that the scene was even more intimidating than her performance in front of Pope John Paul II in 2003, according to The Sun. The 30-year-old (more)...

Danny Horn has described being cast in Doctor Who as like "a bizarre dream". The actor, who has only recently graduated from drama school, will star in the show's forthcoming Christmas special. He told the Ilkley Gazette: "I finished the Central School of Speech and Drama on the Friday, had the audition on the Monday and by Thursday I was filming in Cardiff." He added: "I was very excited about the audition but didn't think I'd get it. It took a month to film and I've been up and down to Cardiff. It's a relatively good part." Horn's role in (more)...
