X-Men comics have always been about the future. They are, after all, stories about mutants, the next stage in human evolution. The central tension dividing Professor Charles Xavier and his best friend Magneto is how to go into that future, either working with humanity or ruling them.
X-Men comics have also always been very, very confusing, with their frequent tales of clones, shape-changers, and alternate realities.
Given those two facts, it’s no wonder that X-Men creators would embrace time travel as a storytelling conceit, throwing Marvel’s Merry Band of Mutants far into the future or launching them deep into the past. The results vary, but these fifteen tales represent the best, and sometimes most headache inducing, of the X-Men’s adventures across time.

The 1990 crossover Days of Future Present is only half an X-Men story, as Franklin Richards is the main character.

Hideo Kojima, as far as video games are concerned, is no less than an auteur and legend in the field. Each of his video games is more of an experience filled with nuanced themes and lessons ranging from philosophy to warfare. His Metal Gear series, in particular, despite being based on conflicts and the role of technology in society gives an engaging narrative touching upon morality and political-social commentary.

Wolverine is the best at what he does. And what he does is self-loathing and swear words. At least, that’s what we see in the latest trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, courtesy of a returning Hugh Jackman seemingly as the only surviving X-Man from his universe.
The third Deadpool movie has long promised to be an R-rated reunion for 20th Century Fox mutants and a way to bring the X-Men into the MCU, so far the teasers are delivering just that. The first trailer was a cameo-fest full of Deadpool‘s supporting cast and other Fox characters, as well as a few Fox X-Men villains. The second trailer continues this trend, but focuses more on Wolverine. Along the way, we get some deep Marvel winks, many of which fly by so quickly that it takes enhanced senses to catch them.

When the buzz around "Logan" first started it came also with the assumption that it would be the last time either Hugh Jackman or Patrick Stewart would appear as their X-Men characters — although that's no longer the case given the revelation Ryan Reynolds recently made announcing the Wolverine actor would indeed have a part to play in "Deadpool 3." Part of that announcement even included the caveat that the decision wouldn't affect the heartbreakingly fitting end seen in "Logan" — which was loosely based on the "Old Man Logan" comic by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven.
It easily holds the title of the darkest, bloodiest, and most tragic "X-Men" movie ever made. Both Professor Xavier and Wolverine die in the film, after all — not to mention the alluded-to off-screen deaths of the rest of the team. But hidden in all that sorrowful exposition is a touching story about the last of...

Han Solo & Chewbacca #5 Written by Marc Guggenheim | Art by David Messina
Finding themselves at the mercy of Black Krrsantan, Han and Chewie are sort of ‘rescued’ by Khel Tanna and her gang who are also after the urn and are press ganged into working for her. Greedo also makes a welcome return for some great banter with Solo as does Benelex Marshal Vancto
There’s lots of action, double-crossing, a daring rescue attempt on the con-man masquerading as Solo’s father and a cliff-hanger of an ending (no spoilers here!) It’s a hugely entertaining read but my only gripe is that David Messina’s art looks a...

This comic obviously doesn’t really exist. There is no Amazing Fantasy #1000, it exists only in the heads of the Marvel marketing department. Spider-Man’s 60th anniversary, however, does exist, and he’s one of a handful of characters that forced his way into mainstream pop culture many years before Marvel became the pop culture juggernaut it now is. Peter Parker is, of course, all of us when we were teenage kids. Socially awkward, tough home life, constantly short of money…take your pick, there’s something in there that everyone could relate to. The fact he gained his powers also made every kid reading think, hey, if it happened to him, it could happen to me.
Peter Parker has also had a massive influence on a lot of professionals now working in the industry, as this anniversary issue shows.

James Mangold's 2017 superhero film "Logan" is unique within the genre for the simple fact that it ends.
Inspired by the Mark Millar and Steve McNiven comic book series "Old Man Logan," Mangold's film takes place in a future of the X-Men universe wherein the man once known as Wolverine has grown into a scarred, defeated, sad, kind of pathetic elderly man. Professor X (Patrick Stewart) is pushing 100 and is losing control of his psychic powers, and Logan (Hugh Jackman) can no longer heal quickly. Both men are at the ends of their lives. The world is dry, dusty, and barren, and the X-Men long ago disbanded and died. The X-Men comics that you read are merely inaccurate portrayals of the tragic, violent stories that the "real world" X-Men actually experienced.
This "last hurrah" for Wolverine was constructed because the character had been featured in nine films,...

By now, you’re probably familiar with the concept of Old Man Logan, a gritty take on an older, more grizzled Wolverine that saw him outlive many of his peers. And since Mark Millar and Steve McNiven launched what can only be described as a modern classic back in 2009, we’ve seen their story not only influence a major motion picture, but that particular version of Logan has actually been integrated into the Marvel Universe proper.
Having said all that, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the House of Ideas would want to go down that road again. This time, though, they’re shining the spotlight on the avenging archer with Old Man Hawkeye, a prequel occurring five years before the events of Old Man Logan. In other words, this’ll “be set 45 years into the future, taking place in a darker world where the heroic...

Often, what you see on a screen when it comes to Hollywood blockbusters is not at all what the initial footage looked like. Whether it’s CGI, practical effects, models, costumes, make-up or any of the other numerous tactics employed to create movie magic, the finished product is almost always enhanced in some manner, especially when it comes to big budget films.
Thankfully, nearly every major blockbuster has its production recorded and documented by photographers and over the years, some truly incredible, exciting and often hilarious behind the scenes photos have made their way online. And so, on that note, join us today as we settle into another edition of our weekly column, where we’ll be exploring Captain America: Civil War, one of Marvel’s finest efforts to date and an absolute triumph in every sense of the word.
Thirteen films in and the studio pulled off the impossible with this eminently re-watchable landmark.

Lauded by critics as the best Spidey movie yet, it’s fair to say that Spider-Man: Homecoming proved to be another slam dunk for Marvel Studios.
Building on the foundations of Captain America: Civil War, the Jon Watts-directed reboot doubled down on Tom Holland’s Web-Head, not to mention his father-son dynamic with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). True to his word, Downey Jr. only appeared in five or six of Homecoming‘s scenes, but perhaps the most memorable exchange between Peter Parker and the great Tony Stark – barring the moment when Rdj’s billionaire saved the hapless Peter via a remote control Iron Man suit – is reserved for the finale, when Stark prepares to formally introduce Spider-Man as the newest member of the Avengers.
It’s an offer that Peter Parker ultimately refuses on the belief that he will continue to operate on the ground level as NYC...

It’s that time of the month again to go through all comics laced with more than a hint of adamantium. This month I will bring you up to speed on the previous three issues of Weapon X, All New Wolverine #20-#21 and then review the first issue from the new creative team on Old Man Logan #25. Before I get into the reviews I must apologise for not giving proper credits for the books I reviewed last month, so that will be rectified from here on in.
Weapon X #2-#4
Writer: Greg Pak | Artist: Greg Land/Ibraim Roberson | Inks: Jay Leisten | Colours: Frank D’Armata | Letters: Joe Caramagna
The second and third issues of this series have a certain feel of the writer following a paint by numbers. That being said I am enjoying the series thus far, but because of the characters involved and the concept of Weapon X always appeals to me.

Following in the footsteps of Secret Wars and Civil War II, Secret Empire becomes the third consecutive Marvel event series to add an extra issue, which, let’s be honest, we all probably saw coming. Although this may not help with the publisher’s recent plea asking readers to have patience with the controversial storyline, there are those of us who’ll savor it because, quite frankly, the book is pretty damn awesome.
Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s Senior Vice President/Executive Editor, had this to say about affording series writer Nick Spencer a little more breathing room:
“Nick [Spencer] has constructed each issue of Secret Empire so that it ends with a climactic twist or a big reveal or a shocking development, and issue #9 is no exception. So moving into the finale, with issue #10, the heroes across the Marvel Universe will be pushed to the breaking point as we race to...

He’s right. To extend that analogy, Captain America and Hydra have become the Empire – and they truly have taken over the Marvel Universe. The heroes we know and love? They’re relegated to a resistance movement – rebels by any other name.

Logan is easily the best movie I have seen this year -- even after watching Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this morning -- ranking among my five favorite superhero films. The film's R rating not only delivered Wolverine violence the way it was meant to be seen, but also allowed for a more adult pace with longer breaks between action, full of great scenes of dialog and heavy themes you won't find in most superhero films. For me, Logan marks the moment that the genre fully matured and became adult.

From the terrific to the tenuous, here is our spotter’s guide for Easter eggs and nerdy nods in Logan...
This article contains lots of Logan spoilers.
Logan has finally arrived. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, James Mangold and the writers Scott Frank and Michael Green have served up a brutal bloodbath of a movie that still manages to have a heart. It’s by far the best solo Wolverine movie, and it’s been certified fresh among critics. Hurrah!
Part of the brilliance of Logan is how it’s slave to no continuity. There is no post-credits scene and no mid-credits scene, and the stars of the other X-Men films on Fox’s slate are notable only by their absence.
With that separation from the rest of the series comes a filmmaking freedom that’s never been allowed in a Wolverine movie before. You get blood,...

Sneak Peek more new footage, plus images from director James Mangold's $127 million budgeted, R-rated feature "Logan", starring Hugh Jackman in his final appearance as the super-powered mutant 'Logan', set in the year 2029, adapting Marvel Comics' "Old Man Logan" storyline, co-starring Parick Stewart and Dafne Keen:
"...years after 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', the last of the 'merry mutants', including an aging 'Logan' aka 'Wolverine', whose healing factor is starting to fail...
"...and 'Charles Xavier' aka 'Professor X', protect a young girl named 'Laura' who is being hunted by sinister forces.

It started with the title – a simple name, not Wolverine IV, or the X-man's handle with an overblown subtitle attached to it, or even something akin to The Wolverine, which included a definite article lest you confuse him with other sharp-clawed mutant superheroes. Then came the first trailer, a stark preview set to Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt." There was no "in a world ..." narration, no giant robots, no costumes; Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier briefly showed up, as did a mysterious man bandaged up like Claude Rains and...

Is Wolverine getting old? Think of this renegade, genre-defying chapter in the film franchise as X-Men: The Aarp Years. Don't panic: Logan is a hard-ass, R-rated rager that explodes with action. But what makes it indelibly raw and touching is the sight of mutant heroes raging against the dying of the light. The year is 2029, and the X-Men have gone the way of the T-Rex. No mutant births have been recorded for 25 years. The artist formerly known as Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is now a boozer who limps, wears glasses...

But today, we examine some juicy tidbits pertaining to the main event itself as more pieces of cover art and official solicitations have found their way online.
Naturally, we’ll start by taking a look at the first issue. Aside from featuring the moment when Steve Rogers finally reveals himself as an agent of Hydra in a tale written by Nick Spencer and illustrated by fan favorite artist Steve McNiven, the variant covers seen in the gallery at the top give us a bit to discuss.
In the debut of Andrea Sorrentino’s “Hydra Hero” variants, we see Hulk be the first to get the treatment. And, hopefully, his allegiance...

Old Man Logan, Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s brooding eight-issue comic book, was consistently name-dropped throughout the course of development on James Mangold’s Logan, as the writer-director went about crafting a somber, yet fitting finale for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
The result? One of the more nuanced, compelling superhero dramas to claw its way onto the scene in recent memory, according to our own Matt Donato, and the critical consensus reveals that Logan is the moody, R-rated Wolverine vehicle fans have been frothing for since Jackman first unsheathed those adamantium claws more than a decade ago. But soon after Hugh Jackman took to Twitter to tease “The Original” Wolvie back in January, there’s been another moment of potential fan service hot on everyone’s lips: Wolverine slipping into that iconic yellow suit.
Turns out the fan-favorite outfit has no place in Logan whatsoever – and that’s even...

I still don't like the fact that Captain America was revealed to really be a Hydra agent in the Marvel Comics universe. Captain America was always a favorite character of mine so I think this whole new direction with him is bullshit.
Anyway, the cover for Secret Empire #0 has been released and it teases the characters Hydra suit. The cover was created by Mark Brooks, and it features Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, standing in a demolished, fiery battle zone. As you can see, his costume is torn at the chest revealing the Hydra insignia with what looks like a new Hydra-style costume.

Marvel's "Secret Empire", available May 2017, is written by Nick Spencer and illustrated by Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, Daniel Acuña, and Leinil Francis Yu, with a cover by Mark Brooks, as 'Steve Rogers' aka 'Captain America' brings about a 'Hydra' revolution during "...the worst day in the 'Marvel Universe'...":
"His plans and Hydra's plans will have begun to unfurl," said Marvel about the story. "We are done with the covert portion, the buildup portion of the program. 'Secret Empire' is the pyrotechnics, the big Michael Bay blockbuster, with huge colossal struggles and battles across the 'Marvel Universe', with all of our key characters and players taking on a big role. 'Cap', as head of 'S.H.I.E.L.D.', is able to mobilize forces..."
"We'll definitely see an impact on our new, younger generation of heroes, a huge turn for them, a 'Watergate' moment for them.

When Marvel started dropping teasers for their next major crossover event, Secret Empire, not long ago, it quickly became apparent that Steve Rogers would somehow be central to the plot. After all, the current shield he wields was being used in the promo images.
Now, the House of Ideas is ready to pull back the curtain and formally announce the event series set to be written by, not surprisingly, Nick Spencer, who currently pens the ongoing Captain America: Steve Rogers. Not only that, but fan favorite artist Steve McNiven is slated to lend his distinctive pencils to the project. As of now, 9 issues are scheduled to encompass the ambitious story arc.

Something Marvel has done particularly well in 2017 is promoting its line of books via dynamic multimedia content, in this case, through music videos. Not surprisingly, their latest offering aims to hype their currently ongoing crossover event series, Monsters Unleashed.
Even if you’re unfamiliar with what’s been going on, you can probably glean from the book’s title that it has something to do with horrific monstrosities. Well, you’re pretty much right because this story, concocted by writer Cullen Bunn (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Uncanny X-Men) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War), unites the likes of the Avengers, the Champions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men and the Inhumans against a variety of kaiju-like threats, some of which will be familiar to longtime Marvel readers.

Although Marvel killed off arguably the most popular of the X-Men several years ago in the pages of Charles Soule’s brilliantly executed Death of Wolverine, an alternate universe version of the character has since been integrated into proper continuity in the form of Old Man Logan.
Captain America may be a man out of time, but, well, we don’t know quite how to describe a man who’s out of his own universe! Thankfully, we’ve had such a capable writer in Jeff Lemire to handle the subject with care.
Having previously penned critically acclaimed runs on Animal Man and Green Arrow for DC, Lemire made the smooth transition to Marvel when he took over Hawkeye. Archers aside, one has to imagine he’s been having a blast writing for a more grizzled take on Logan (if such a thing were possible) and had this to say about...

While that’s already exciting in and of itself, we’re now hearing that the event series will be followed by an ongoing series which picks up directly after. Bunn will return on writing duties, and he’ll now be joined by artist David Baldeon.
From what we understand, Monsters Unleashed will continue to follow Kid Kaiju, a youngster with the ability to control many of these creatures. He’ll be joined by Else Bloodstone, and in a press release put out earlier today, Bunn had the following to say about exploring...

Tracking Fox's X-Men timeline, Charles Xavier graduated from the University of Oxford in 1962. If he's the average graduate age of 22, that would make him 89 in 2029. Across Professor X's 67 years adventuring as the leader of the X-Men, the team's exploits somehow became public knowledge as evidenced by the comic book Wolverine remarks as being sensationalized in Logan's final trailer. What happened to the rest of the X-Men to leave Professor X and Wolverine hiding on the Mexican border? The setting and atmosphere of Logan is a far cry from the hopeful and triumphant tone of X-Men: DoFP's epilogue. Five to six years seems like a relative short time for such a drastic change to occur but James Mangold felt that was enough of a time skip to give himself room to tell his take on the Old Man Logan storyline from Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. With Monsters Unleashed launching very shortly, Marvel is pulling out all the stops to grab the attention of readers everywhere. As such, they’re offering a cool look inside the new limited series brought to us by writer Cullen Bunn (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe) and artist Steve McNiven (Civil War).
Whenever publishers normally release previews, they offer glimpses that consist of five or six interior pages on average, with standard and variant covers also included. When it comes to Monsters Unleashed, however, they’re letting True Believers sample eleven pages.
But there’s a catch: One must apparently create an account for the Marvel App, Comixology, or the Marvel Digital Store (you can check it out here). Still, it’s free and you can’t beat that.

Comic Books 101: Comic Books To Keep An Eye Out For In 2017
In 2016 Both Marvel and DC had their own version of companywide “reboots” to help improve sales and streamline their stories. For Marvel, the events of Secret Wars II opened up an “All New-All Different” Marvel Universe which saw the collapse of the multiverse (similar to DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths) and “new” faces taking over for many beloved iconic characters. DC likewise followed up their New 52 line up with Rebirth! A way to slightly rework some of the areas that were lacking in their New 52 line up and get characters “back to basics”. Now with both companies seemingly back on track, what does 2017 have in store for them? Also what the heck is going on over with all those other indie comic book companies? Read on to see some of the big happenings coming in 2017!
