As the foil to husband Elton John's famous tantrums, David Furnish was always the quiet one. But his Aids campaigning has given him a new voice. He talks about married life, fathering children and why everyone should get an HIV test
The first time David Furnish went for an HIV test, in his early 20s, the procedure hadn't even been invented. The doctors could only test his immune system for stress, and as far as they could tell he was fine, but Furnish was so terrified of Aids, "I went back in the closet. I stopped having sex with men."
His mother had wept when, aged 21, he told her he was gay. A middle-class Canadian housewife, "She cried for a week. She said, 'You'll never have a family, you'll never have children of your own. And you might die of this disease killing all those gay men in New York and San Francisco.

Although the actual crimes happened nearly 45 years ago, the Charles Manson murders continue to intrigue people to this day. Understanding that fact, filmmaker Susanna Lo is bringing us a film that looks at the insanity from a new angle. Prepare yourself for Manson Girls.
Based on the unimaginable events leading up to the 1969 murders performed by the Manson Family, Lo's Manson Girls tells a unique story from the perspective of the girls. "This is not Charles Manson's story. This is not Vincent Bugliosi's (Manson's prosecuting attorney who wrote Helter Skelter) story. This is the girls' story, and it predominately takes place in their earlier years from their high school days through when they start meeting each other and their life on Spahn Ranch, and it actually ends a minute before the actual Tate/Labianca murders," Manson Girls writer/director Susanna Lo said. "I felt like the murders had been represented enough,...

Above: Andrzej Żuławski on the set of Boris Godounov (1989).
The first American retrospective of Andrzej Żuławski offers the chance to discover an auteur whose idiosyncratic vision is as radical, overwhelming and instantly recognizable—it may take no longer than a few shots—as those of canonized masters like Robert Bresson and Andrej Tarkovskij. But maybe Paul Verhoeven would serve as a better comparison, since Żuławski has remained similarly polarizing due to a punchy sensibility that had the French coin the term "Zulawskienne," meaning "over the top." Consider the opening of his first feature The Third Part of the Night (1971): A woman reads out the apocalyptic passage containing the title from the Book of Revelation, only to be struck down minutes later by one of the soldiers on horseback suddenly intruding in her house. Clearly, this is a world where anything can happen, and Żuławski makes sure it does. Then again,...

After all John was the antagonist in Gupta's last film Zinda as well and it had seen the actor in an altogether different light. As a suave multi-millionaire businessman, John had managed to hold on his own despite Sanjay Dutt in front of him, someone who was Sanjay Gupta's favourite at that time. Now with Shoot Out At Wadala, Gupta promises that John Read More...
