Members of the Broadway cast of Frozen were in the recording studio today working on the show’s cast recording, which Disney announced will be released later this spring.
Caissie Levy, as Elsa, and Patti Murin, who plays Anna, head the cast. The album is produced by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez, Stephen Oremus, Dave Metzger and Chris Montan.
Frozen, which already has a large pit orchestra of 21, will be expanded even further for the cast recording to 44 musicians, including a string section of 22.
Following previous Disney Theatrical adaptations of Aladdin and The Lion King, which continue to draw strong crowds on Broadway, Frozen opened March 22 at the St. James Theatre. Based on the 2013 film, which won Oscars for Best Song (“Let It Go”) as well as Best Animated Feature, the Broadway show has also posted free videos of four of the 12 new songs that were written for the Broadway show.

Spoiler Alert: The interview below gives away plot points of the movie “Coco.”
Songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Lopez-Anderson return to the Oscars on March 4 just four years after winning. That victory was their Best Original Song blockbuster “Let It Go” from Disney’s “Frozen.” The new nomination is in the same category and is also from Disney: “Remember Me” from Best Animated Feature frontrunner “Coco.”
In our recent interview with the couple (watch the exclusive video above), Robert reveals one of his favorite aspects of the new movie: “I loved the idea of the backstory of this song which was that one songwriter wrote it for his daughter and it was a beautiful expression of love. And then another songwriter killed him and stole the song and corrupted the meaning so it’s all about him and flash and virtuosity. Those two ideas of how a song is presented...

Idina Menzel has been known to pull audience members on stage for duets during her concerts in the past. But her latest partner just might have her questioning that decision.
During her Sunday concert in Grand Prarie, Texas, a young boy — who Menzel called “the only boy” in the audience — nearly stole the show from the songstress when he belted the chorus of “Let it Go,” her hit song from Disney’s Frozen.
