Brandi Carlile has shared her rendition of Diana Ross’ The Wiz showstopper “Home” following its premiere on the latest episode of Ted Lasso.
For her version, Carlile enlisted former Pearl Jam (and current Bob Dylan) drummer Matt Chamberlain, bassist Sebastian Steinberg, pianist Dave Palmer, and a string section of Chauntee and Monique Ross.
It’s unclear if Carlile is a big fan of the Apple TV+ series, but she and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis have some history: In November 2020, Carlile was among the performers at Sudeikis’ Thundergong benefit live stream,...

Brandi Carlile has shared her contribution to the Season 3 soundtrack of Ted Lasso. Out now, it’s a rendition of “Home,” made famous by Diana Ross in the 1978 film The Wiz.
Carlile’s version of “Home” appears in the penultimate episode of Season 3 of Ted Lasso, and like Dorothy in The Wiz, Ted is a far way from home. Nobody can quite match Ross’ level of soul in the original performance of the song, but Carlile adds a nice twist by swapping out its sweeping orchestral arrangements for a folksier piano.
Carlile also produced the track herself at ShangriLa Studios, with a backing band composed of Matt Chamberlain on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, Dave Palmer on piano and organ, and Chauntee and Monique Ross on strings (no relation). Listen to the cover of “Home” below.

Brandy Clark and Brandi Carlile make a dream pairing as collaborators on Clark’s latest album. The self-titled release, which was produced by Carlile, will be released May 19 and includes the new track “Buried.”
Clark’s fingerstyle guitar playing is the foundation on which “Buried” is built, and it’s from there that other layers are added in slow succession. It’s a subtle, unfussy recording, framing Clark’s melancholy delivery perfectly, and as a song, it’s full of characteristically great Clark lines. In the opening verse, Clark ponders getting out of town,...

Since the (very) black comedy Citizen Ruth announced him as a writer-director to be reckoned with, Alexander Payne has been one of the most consistently acclaimed American filmmakers of the last 15 years; he doesn’t make movies very often, but when he does, both critics and audiences take note. Recently, he released his latest, The Descendants, starring George Clooney. With special guest Joseph Belanger (of Black Sheep Reviews), we’ll be taking a look at Payne’s latest, along with his 1999 breakthough, the bleakly funny Election.

I didn’t think I would have to insult the intelligence of our readers by pointing out a very simple fact, but based on the first comment we received, I guess I should make something clear. This is a list of our favourite soundtracks of 2011. We are currently working on a list of the best original scores, which should be posted sometime within the week. Let us know if you think we left out any soundtracks you would recommend. Enjoy!
10 – Young Adult
One of the themes of Jason Reitman’s upcoming film Young Adult, is the idea of being stuck in the past, and trying to relive your glory days, and so it’s no surprise that the soundtrack to the film is loathed with 1990s alt-rock cuts. Due December 6th via Rhino Records, the fifteen-track disc features the Replacements, the Lemonheads, Dinosaur Jr., Teenage Fanclub, Cracker, 4 Non Blondes, Veruca Salt and many more.

Director Mike Mills' film "Beginners" is about a young man named Oliver (Ewan McGregor) who learns his elderly father has both terminal cancer and a young male lover, and how Oliver tries to love a woman with the life lessons this dying father gives him. Mills wrote the screenplay based loosely on recollections of his own childhood. Likewise the film's refined soundtrack plays like an aural collage of memories from his parent's record collection.
"It's a part of a portrait of my parents," Mills told IFC's Matt Singer about the half classical, half old-timey piano rag soundtrack. "My dad was really into classical music and it really suits that character to me. I got into Bach cello suites and I had them done in French horn, it's a nice background for that part of the story," Mills said. "And then, my mom really listened to "The Sting" score, Scott Joplin...
