- Galen Ryan Kane is an American actor. The son of Ryan, a longshoreman and former United States Marine Corps Forces Reserve from Baltimore, Maryland and Donna, a United States Army Reserve from Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Kane lived much of his younger years raised in both the Caribbean and the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area, where he became a native.
He is a graduate of the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale.
Prior to his path in the performance arts, Kane received his bachelor's at the historically black institution, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he majored in business administration, concentrating in marketing. On campus, is where the spark of the performance arts found him. As the university did not offer acting as a major, he honed his early craft at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the American Globe Theatre during the summer seasons. - The meaning of Galen is "calm". It is of Greek origin. The meaning of Ryan is "king" or "illustrious". It is of Irish origin, although early and medieval historians record it to be of an ancient origin. Kane has multiple meanings. It is Irish for "war-like" or "warrior"; in Welsh, "beautiful"; in Japanese, "golden"; in Hawaiian, "man of the Eastern Sky"; and from its biblical origin, the name carries the meaning "man from the Lord".
- During his middle through high school varsity basketball days, he trained with NBA athlete Kevin Durant prior to his professional stardom at Seat Pleasant Activity Center (aka "The Rec") in Seat Pleasant, MD. Their trainer and longtime mentor was Taras Brown, whom also served as a father figure to him in his youth.
