Exclusive: Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to the gripping historical drama Kent State from writer, director Karen Slade. The film will star Dermot Mulroney, Clancy Brown, Aksel Hennie, Christopher Backus, Christopher Ammanuel, Andrew Ortenberg and Jacqueline Emerson.
Grandave International is handling foreign sales on the film. The pic will begin filming this November in Columbus, Ga with a US theatrical release anticipated for 2023.
Inspired by true events, the movie tells the story of how a family’s buried past coincides with the brutal truth of one of the most significant events in American history, when the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of student protestors, killing four, and injuring 7 on May 4th, 1970, at Kent State University. Told through the perspective of Will McCormack in two time periods in his life, the film asks the question of not just what happened then, but why these kinds of events continue to happen.

Elle Fanning’s Shoes, Fivel Stewart’s Shroud Break Our Hearts At The Breaking Dawn – Part 2 Premiere
If the end of the Twilight franchise doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, might we suggest checking out Elle Fanning‘s platform sandals at tonight’s Breaking Dawn – Part 2 premiere red carpet? What. Are. Those. Monstrosities. Elle seems to be totally thrilled with her kicks, but they scream Spice Girls knock-offs to us. Fivel Stewart also went bold tonight, pairing a dark lip with a wispy First Communion lampshade dress of some kind. If Fivel wanted us to speculate whether she’s pregnant, mission accomplished! We’re assuming it’s just the dress though!
Actress Judi Shekoni didn’t far much better with her odd bi-level frock, and Alexandra Patsavas opted for a look that was more Hey Arnold! than high fashion. Obviously there were plenty of stunners on tonight’s black carpet, but unfortunately there were just as many near misses. If only Nikki Reed‘s gown didn...

Rafe Spall has joined the cast of Son of the South. The Prometheus actor has been cast in the lead role of the American civil rights drama, which is executive produced by Spike Lee. It’s probably fair to say by now that Rafe Spall is a bit of a rising star. The son of Timothy Spall excelled in early roles in Edgar Wright’s “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz,” while in the last twelve months he’s done his very best to steal the show through lightly comic roles in “One Day,” “Anonymous” and “Prometheus.” After being cast as a romantic lead in Dan Mazer’s newlywed comedy "I Give It A Year" opposite Rose Byrne and Anna Faris earlier this year, it appeared that the range of roles Spall was attracting was beginning to significantly broaden. That trend seems to be continuing with Spall set to lead the Spike Lee produced indie drama “Son Of The South.”
Barry Alexander Brown (a frequent editor of Lee’s) will direct the picture based on the autobiography of Bob Zellner, “The Wrong Side of Murder.

Long-time Spike Lee editor Barry Alexander Brown (he cut 13 of Spike's films) will reportedly be getting behind the camera and into the director's chair (although not the first time) to direct an indie feature titled Son Of The South, which Spike Lee will executive produce. The film's cast is already set: Rafe Spall and Jacqueline Emerson are attached to star in a project that's based on Bob Zellner's autobiography The Wrong Side of Murder Creek, which centers on the author's life in Alabama, the son of a minister and grandson of a Kkk member, only to later join the Civil Rights Movement. Spall will play Zellner, while Emerson will play his fiancee,...

Rafe Spall‘s done solid, reliable character work for years now, becoming a recognizable faces (if not name) via Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Anonymous, and, most recently, Prometheus. With his days as a foolhardy biologist now all but behind him — and with that, realistically, being one of the more prominent roles of his entire onscreen career — it might be time for him to take the spotlight.
Variety reports that Spall will headline Son of the South, a real-life drama that Barry Alexander Brown will helm for his frequent collaborator and, this time out, executive producer, Spike Lee. The story is based on The Wrong Side of Murder Creek, an autobiography by Bob Zellner; in the book, he discussed a southern upbringing that, despite both his environment and family history — such as a Kkk-indoctrinated grandfather — led him into a life of Civil Rights activism. Being a member of this movement,...

"The Hunger Games" gang will be back in action this fall, when production on the first sequel "Catching Fire" — now formally titled "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" — will finally begin (eep!).
So what've they got going on this summer until then? Here's the scoop on how Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and the rest of "The Hunger Games" cast are spending their summer.
Jennifer Lawrence
Lawrence is a hard-working gal, and this summer is no exception. She's looking down the barrel of not one but two major upcoming studio productions. So, this summer she's been spotted working out like crazy, meeting up with "Catching Fire" director Francis Lawrence for a pow-wow about the project and otherwise readying herself to reprise Katniss for movie two and return as Mystique for the sequel to "X-Men: First Class."
That said, J.Law's been slipping in some fun time here and there as well.

Josh Hutcherson and Freida Pinto were among the celebs - and past and present Nylon cover stars - who turned out to celebrate the magazine's 13th anniversary last night in La. The celebration was held at Smashbox Studios in Hollywood. Freida arrived in a Prada dress before settling into the VIP section with her friends and her talent agent. Josh, sporting a fedora and sunglasses despite the late hour, arrived with a friend a while after, and was one of several actors from The Hunger Games at the bash. Dayo Okeniyi, Jacqueline Emerson, and Alexander Ludwig were also at the soiree, and the costars stopped to pose for several photos together during the festivities. The Hunger Games' stars are still riding high on their movie's continued streak of success at the box office. Last weekend, it even beat out the 3D relaunch of Titanic both here and in the...

We get that the Kids’ Choice Awards is a casual event, but this year the red carpet was a bit disappointing. Luckily, a couple of ladies cut the mustard and salvaged the situation. Leading the pack was our favorite Kristen Stewart who picked her favorite — a mini dress. What was unusual was the color. She picked a cobalt blue Stella McCartney with lace overlay with matching pumps. Emma Stone looked adorable and quite sedate in a pinkish-beige Antonio Berardi pleated frock. We were also quite floored by Sarah Hyland‘s flowing red maxi by Myne. That long center-parted haired hair was the perfect choice to go with it.
Selena Gomez‘s Dolce & Gabanna may be a controversial decision here, considering it’s pretty much a bustier and tiny, printed skirt. But fashion is all about selling it, right? And she’s looking so happy and confident in the outfit, that it’s pretty much sold.

Faithful as it was to the source material, "The Hunger Games" still had more than its fair share of on-screen surprises.
The movie hit all the major notes we anticipated, of course, and almost all of our predictions of bits cut from the film (Madge, Avoxes) proved true.
Even so, the following eight moments had our jaws on the floor.
Do be warned: this list is full of delicious spoilers, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, you may want to bookmark this column for later.
Foxface and Katniss Bump into Each Other
We weren't expecting Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and the sneaky Foxface (Jacqueline Emerson) to become, um, acquainted so early in the Games … but we really did like watching the two jointly opt for the flight (as opposed to fight) strategy to survival after colliding into one another. It definitely set them apart from the viciousness underway back at the Cornucopia.

Chicago – In Part Two of “The Hunger Games” interviews, Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove) and Jacqueline Emerson (Foxface) talk about aspects of the business they’ve chosen, growing up with technology and more.
It is Josh Hutcherson who has the largest acting resume. He began in the business when he was nine years old with the TV movie “House Blend” (2002). From there he appeared in such diverse films as “Kicking and Screaming” (2005), “Rv” (2006) and “Journey to the Center of the Earth” (2008), before getting a prominent part in the Oscar nominated, “The Kids Are All Right” (2010).
Isabelle Fuhrman had small TV and film parts, until she brother out with “Orphan” in 2009, and has worked steadily since. Jacqueline Emerson is the rookie, as “The Hunger Games” is her first film role, but had done stage work beforehand and toured with “Dev2.o,” a Walt Disney sponsored rock band.

When you head to the theaters this weekend to see our girl Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) compete in "The Hunger Games," keep in mind there's another battle brewing. The battle for Miss Everdeen's heart, that is.
On one side is Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), who's been Katniss' tall, dark and handsome confidant and hunting partner ever since they both lost their fathers in a mining accident. For years, Gale has had the exclusive on Katniss' trust and attention thanks to their mutual need to provide for their younger siblings.
Then comes Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), her fellow tribute from District 12, who makes a startling confession about his life-long affection for Katniss, sending her into a mild tizzy and changing the nature of the Games altogether. Once upon a time, Peeta – whom she only knew as the baker's son — gave her some much-needed bread in a time of deep desperation. In fact,...

In case you haven’t been keeping up with the going-ons of the world, Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games”, his adaptation of the Suzanne Collins young adult novel, opens this Friday. Yes, this Friday. If all the hype surrounding the film is to believed, once the film opens, the universe will collapse on itself and swallow us whole. That’s how great and epic this movie apparently is. I could be wrong, of course. Let’s hope so. So, the latest clip finds Katniss, fresh from the Reaping, saying goodbye to Gale, her hunting buddy and unspoken boyfriend. Please to enjoy. Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth (aka the Lesser Hemsworth) stars, along with Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, and Willow Shields. Saying Hi this Friday,...

President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and Seneca Crane (West Bentley), the head of those scumbags running the Hunger Games that heroine Katniss Everdeen and her peers are forced to survive, are doing a little plotting in this latest clip from Gary Ross’ “The Hunger Games”. This is one of those scenes that don’t appear in the book, as everything in the books are told entirely from Katniss’ Pov in first-person. So this is definitely one of those fleshed out scenes, such as how the Games themselves are run, that I’m curious to see. And in case you missed them, three previous clips can be found here, here, and here. Also, about 7 minutes of behind-the-scenes B-roll material here. “The Hunger Games” also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi,...

The Hunger Games red carpet in L.A last night was full of bright, bold fashion. We’ve already given you a heads up about how incredible Jennifer Lawrence was looking in shimmering, gold Prabal Gurung. Elizabeth Banks revved it up as well in a bright orange Atelier Versace cocktail dress. Looks like someone was trying to be the girl on fire on this carpet, huh? We all know that redheads in green makes for a winning combination. Jacqueline Emerson served as a great reminder of that style staple, wearing a lovely strapless green Grecian gown. Apart from these three ladies, our favorite look of the evening goes to Isabelle Fuhrman, who wore an ethereal gold embroidered frock. She reminds us of Rooney Mara, somehow.

Grown tired of “The Hunger Games” yet? Of course not. The film is due out in less than two weeks, and to get you all afluttered and ready, here’s a new 30-second spot touting the film’s “event” status and a new clip featuring Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) on the couch with the flamboyant Caesar Flickerman, the movie’s M.C. and dude with an awesome haircut. Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. The film also co-stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Amandla Stenberg, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jacqueline Emerson, Paula Malcomson, Dayo Okeniyi, Jack Quaid, Leven Rambin, and Willow Shields. I ain’t gonna lie — I’m looking forward to this one. So much so that I don’t even mind all the PR attempts to convince you that not seeing “The Hunger Games” when it opens on March 23rd is the same as telling people you’re a secret Al-Qaeda terrorist sleeper agent. Here’s the latest TV spot for the Gary Ross film. A flash or two of new footage here, I think, including a look at the room where the Gamemakers do their thing. That, I think, will be one of the movie’s main draw — whereas you didn’t see anything beyond what Katniss sees in the books (which is very limited), the movies will let you see how the Games are actually run. Should be interesting. The event of the year stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland,...

Lionsgate has released a great new TV spot for The Hunger Games, and it's got a bit more new footage for fans to check out. They're still holding back on the intense action sequences, but I'm actually more excited about the movie because of that. It's kind of fun not knowing how they will turn out.
Here's the synopsis:
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

You can see singer and actress Jacqueline Emerson as Foxface when "The Hunger Games" hits theaters March 23, but right now you catch her in the new music video for her single "Catch Me If You Can."
Emerson's first single was "Peter Pan;" here's what she had to say to Teen Vogue about the two songs:
"If you've heard 'Peter Pan,' it's more of a low-key song. It's very personal. Just me playing a piano, which is the way that I wrote it and recorded it. 'Catch Me If You Can' is a lot more upbeat and a lot more pop. More of a dance tune, but there's also a deeper message to it, like all of the songs I do. It's about running away from your past and I don't know if you necessary hear that when you hear the song, but that's what I had in mind.

Excited for her role in the upcoming film "The Hunger Games," Jacqueline Emerson was spotted posing with her People magazine special feature issue in-hand on Friday (March 2).
The 17-year-old redhead plays "Foxface" in the book-turned-movie and was all smiles as she showed off her picture at a newsstand in Los Angeles, California.
Even though the film hasn't even been released yet, Miss Emerson is tweeting about how the series is already receiving nominations, as she messaged, "Just found out HungerGames is nominated for a Kca! Go vote! I might also vote for Harry Potter. No explanation necessary."
And while "The Hunger Games" doesn't hit theaters until Friday, March 23, you can check out what Jacqueline has to say about her character in the film by watching the interview below!

If you’re scratching your head over that last part of the headline: We’ve heard from various sources that The Hunger Games will in fact run for a tiring 142 minutes. Hey, if they’ve got a lot of story to tell…
Discounting this bizarre facet, the past week or so has found yours truly changing his tune on The Hunger Games, with there even being a small leap from “complete and total lack of interest” to “a smidge interest on account of good buzz.” Such minor feelings of affection are more or less sustained by Lionsgate’s new clip, in which Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) takes up a bow & arrow (in what others describe as a training process for the titular competition) and shows off some skills to the Capitol brass by way of an unlucky apple.

Here's the first film clip for Gary Ross' The Hunger Games! It's called "Shoot the Pig," and it features Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) making her badass presence known in the training center by shooting an apple from a pig's mouth while a little dinner party is going on. I've attempted shooting a bow and arrow in the past, and I jacked up my arm pretty bad. I was obviously doing it wrong. Crossbows are much easier to use.

So, it was just announced today that the stars and director of The Hunger Games are embarking on an eight-city mall tour across the country, beginning in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 3. And we’re not sure what to think of this news. On the one hand, yay! Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and/or their tribute frienemies will maybe be coming to your town to answer your questions in person. On the other hand, well, the thought of these young stars being ferried from town to town and presented in front of crowds sounds kind of Spoiler …
… like Katniss and Peeta’s victory tour. Except it will be done in malls instead of in town squares. And they’re probably traveling by plane, not fancy futuristic trains. And the masses there to greet them won’t be forced to attend against their will (unless you’re counting unwilling...
