While watching Assassins, a new musical by Stephen Sondheim and directed by Ray Rackham at the Pleasance Theatre in Islington, I was thinking how in the world was I never shown this in my Us history class back in New York? It would have made it that much more interesting and fun! And to think this fantastic musical is all about assassinations! 9 of them to be precise either carried out or attempted on 9 different Presidents. A cast of 16 characters take us through the different stories behind each one exploring the dark reasons why someone would want to “pull that little trigger”. Is it to be immortalized? The answers are not so clear and as an American expat I was boggling my mind trying to think why it seems so intrinsically American to want to make a point by firing a gun.
