When Marvel and Netflix unleashed the first full trailer for The Defenders a fortnight ago, the crowd-pleasing snippet arrived bearing the simple caption, “defend.”
Of course, those of you who have binged through each of the four standalone series – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – will already be well accustomed to Marvel’s small-screen heroes defending Harlem and Hell’s Kitchen from nefarious forces, but The Defenders takes things one step further to explore how four lone wolves function together as a superpowered unit.
That is, in a nutshell, the premise underpinning Marvel and Netflix’s team-up series, one set to thrust its leading heroes against The Hand – not to mention Sigourney Weaver’s imposing NYC power player, Alexandra – over the course of eight episodes. August 18th is the date for your diaries, and just as the new issue of Empire Magazine graces store shelves, the outlet has...

Are fan petitions for television shows ever effective? We may soon find out, as a petition for a Star Wars: The Old Republic series steadily moves toward its target of 200,000 signatures. With less than 10,000 supporters left to attract, the appeal targets Disney as the owner of the Star Wars property, and requests that a show be put together on Netflix.
While Star Wars: The Old Republic is familiar to those in the gaming world, it has never been explored within the cinematic canon of Star Wars. Nor has it featured in Star Wars animation, where Star Wars Rebels continues to reign supreme. Rather, these tales of what’s effectively the early history of the conflict between the Jedi and the Sith remain uncharted territory. The petition cover letter, written by Jasmine St-Philippe, details the fascination that exists around this area of Star Wars lore.

The Defenders, an eight episode series featuring an Avengers style team-up in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, arrives this August. Going into The Avengers, we'd already spent at least two hours with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America in their solo, origin stories (four hours in Iron Man's case). After watching two seasons of Daredevil, and thirteen hour-long episodes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, we'll finally see these street level heroes cross paths, bicker, and learn to fight together to save their city.
Watching these four interact for the first time in the teaser trailer for The Defenders is nearly as mind blowing as first watching Bruce Banner and Steve Rogers met on the deck of that Helicarrier in 2012. Now, Marvel has released motion posters on the Twitter accounts for each of their shows, putting each hero in another's domain. This is really happening!

Marvel has done well creating their shared movie universe, displaying far better execution with their properties than their rival DC Comics. Using 2008’s Iron Man as a launching pad, The Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a box office juggernaut, executing phase after phase with near perfection.
While having massive success in theaters, Marvel has slowly been building a secondary universe on the small screen. Beginning in 2013 with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for ABC, and then teaming up with Netflix to bring a grittier, more adult show with 2015’s Daredevil. Marvel’s movie universe tends to make use of the bigger and more mainstream characters, while the TV shows have focused on the lesser known Marvel properties such as Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.

Marvel has spent the better part of the last decade dominating the movie world, and has also been making great headway in the TV business along the way. As of now both worlds have remained mostly separate, with characters like Daredevil and Jessica Jones keeping far away from Iron Man and Captain America. The trailer recently came out for the upcoming Netflix Defenders series, and it looks like it should be fun. However, shared universe projects cane easily go awry. Cinelinx looks at 7 things the Defenders needs to avoid in order to make this work.
The Netflix/Marvel series of web-shows, which includes Daredevil (the best of them all), Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist, as well as the upcoming Punisher series, have been very popular, and are generally far superior to the network comic book TV series. The Defenders is the culmination of the Netflix web-verse so far. This is the time to be careful and not make any stupid mistakes. Here is what they should avoid.

Although Netflix might be getting all the attention these days, Marvel’s small screen ambitions are both larger and more connected with its cinematic universe than most people realize. Agents of Shield is a more direct sequel to The Avengers than its actual cinematic follow-up, Iron Man 3. While Daredevil and Jessica Jones merely namedrop characters from the films, Agent Carter stars one of them. And when Marvel needs an answer to the X-Men – whose film rights are actually owned by Fox – they turn to the Inhumans. Originally planned as a feature film, Marvel’s increasingly tight release schedule lead

Just as Marvel’s “The Avengers” was the culmination of a multi-year plan involving “Iron Man,” “Thor,” “The Incredible Hulk” and “Captain America” (and next year’s “Infinity War” will bring together the characters introduced since, namely The Scarlet Witch, The Vision, Ant-Man, the Guardians Of The Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Valkyrie, Black Panther and more), upcoming Netflix show “The Defenders” is the endpoint of two years that have seen the streaming giant introduce four comic-book characters to their viewers.

Jessica Jones Reconstructs The Crime
Well, I can’t put it off any longer no matter how hard I try. And believe me, I’ve tried.
The last time I started a column with those words we were engaged in a not-so-great Civil War. It’s how I began my multi-column series on Marvel’s Civil War II. Today we turn to the aftermath of Civil War II. Call it Marvel’s Reconstruction Era, only the historical one was probably less painful.
Inhuman Ulysses Cain predicted future crimes. Captain Marvel arrested everyone the predictions said would commit some future crime and put them in jail. I wrote about why this was against the law. You know, it’s a pity that this Captain Marvel is forcing a perfectly respectable Captain Marvel to call himself Shazam.
One of the future criminals Captain Marvel imprisoned was Allison Green. Problem was, the prediction about Allison was wrong.

Entertainment Weekly has gathered Marvel’s Royal Family together for the first official cast photo for Inhumans, ABC’s upcoming live-action series that’s due to air this fall.
Anson Mount anchors the ensemble as Black Bolt, while there’s also a sneak peek at Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Ken Leung as Karnak, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, and former Game of Thrones actor Iwan Rheon as Maximus the Mad. It makes for quite the formidable lineup, and after spending time with both Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy – not to mention the oncoming Defenders – Marvel fans are on the verge of being introduced to a vastly different, and arguably more dysfunctional ensemble.
Indeed, when EW asked series showrunner Scott Buck (Iron Fist) if he’s inspired by one Inhumans comic arc in particular, the writer-producer stressed that ABC’s interpretation – one that...

Earlier today, we got the first trailer for The Defenders and it teased the coming together of four Marvel heroes who’ve dominated Netflix over the past few years. Now, a new poster has been released and it once again shows off Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, albeit in a very unusual manner.
Yes, what you see below is indeed a picture of their feet, and while it doesn’t look like much on the surface, it actually does a surprisingly good job of emphasizing the difference between the four heroes. Not only that, but it also gets across the gritty feel that these shows have delivered in regards to the Defenders’ corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After four series spent introducing the characters, a new trailer for The Defenders sure spends a lot of time introducing them all over again. "Blind guy? This is Jessica." "Jessica, meet Luke." "Luke, meet a guy with an iron fist." "Hey, all you guys live in Manhattan and have great powers! Maybe you should team up!" As much as I enjoyed the first seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, my interest in the Netflix / Marvel shows has declined with repetition. I'm starting to catch up with Luke Cage, which might be my personal farewell to that particular universe, especially in view of all the negative talk about Iron Fist. Still, it's fascinating to me how Netflix is proving itself to be just like most...

Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil will be joining forces to take down a villain played by Sigourney Weaver, and we are super excited.
Netflix dropped the official trailer today of what looks set to be a return to form for the Netflix's Marvel universe after the dud that was Iron Fist.
Viewers have been clamoring for more from Jessica Jones ever since the first season of her show hit the streaming giant in late 2015.
In the trailer, we get to see the four heroes meeting up and realizing they need to join forces to save New York City from a new villain that is intent on destroying everything and everyone in her path.
With Jessica still very much on the fence about being a superhero, you can bet that there will be a few scenes that she questions her place with the team.

Part of what makes “Master of None” a delightful, refreshing viewing experience is how in 10 episodes, co-creators Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang continue to find new ways to surprise the audience. Whether it’s a bluntly funny song choice, the casually incorporated use of black-and-white footage, a telling change in perspective, several telling changes in perspective, or an unexpected arc in the story itself, the Netflix original series feels informally formal. It’s gorgeous, deep, and with style to spare, but the narrative flows without force, moving from topic to topic with the ease of young lovers lost in a date they never want to end.
So why spoil it?
I won’t, but suffice to say, Season 2 is as carefully constructed as it is appears to be carefree. Ansari — who wrote or co-wrote every episode and directed two-and-a-half hours of the 10 episode second season — has infused more of himself into his follow-up season,...

Disclaimer: This post contains spoilers for the last episode of Daredevil Season 2 and some aspects of Iron Fist.
Over the past couple years, Marvel Television has done an amazing job of slowly building the world of The Defenders. It started this journey with the best known member of the group, Daredevil. From there, we saw Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and finally, Iron Fist hit the small screen, rounding out the core group that we’d see going forward.
Despite the relatively grounded nature the series, they’ve recently taken things into a more ridiculous and supernatural realm. Daredevil Season 2 saw the introduction of the very comic booky (go figure) organization of The Hand, and Iron Fist saw the return of said organization, and the introduction of the idea of resurrection.

Though Marvel and Netflix’s Iron Fist wasn’t exactly what you’d call critically acclaimed, most people would agree that Jessica Henwick’s badass martial artist, Colleen Wing, was a major highlight, and fans are understandably looking forward to seeing her reprise the role later this year in The Defenders.
In the season finale of Iron Fist, Wing decided to stick with Danny Rand and travelled back to K’un-Lun with him only to find that the heavenly dimension had seemingly vanished, and it sounds like whatever she experienced after this in the build-up to The Defenders is going to have a pretty serious effect on her psyche.

Many from misogynistic worlds, these ladies are prime examples of strength, confidence, and a blind belief in yourself. They stand their ground, they know what they're worth, and they're not going to let anyone get in the way of that.
Peggy Carter, for example, actually said, "I know my value. Anyone else's opinion doesn't really matter."
She's number one on this list because Peggy sets an example for everyone to follow and it's necessary to show that she wasn't from the present day; Peggy existed after World War II, when the men came home and tried to take everything back from the women that had to stand up and fill in while the men were fighting.
Below, here are 17 women that have faced unlikely odds, been pressured into giving up their beliefs in the world or themselves, yet they stood strong and conquered.

Comic book fans will not be lacking in team-up programming this year. Of course, the big event is DC Films‘ “Justice League,” but on the small screen, Marvel‘s various Netflix series finally culminate in “The Defenders.”
Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist are united in the upcoming series, which will run eight episodes long. That will perhaps be good news for those who feel Marvel’s Netflix shows to date have dragged a bit running at thirteen episodes, but juggling that many characters with a shorter running time might be counterintuitive.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, while lighting up box offices with each new movie that hits theaters, has been hit or miss when bringing their stories to the small screen. While the McU is having great success on Netflix with the likes of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and the great Jessica Jones, Agents of Shield, the show that started the McU on the small screen, has been hit or miss. Coming later this year, ABC will debut another show from Marvel Studios, a pet project from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, The Inhumans.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Jed Whedon commented on the possibility of a crossover between the two ABC shows.
"Without being able to say anything really about that show, it will have its own world, just as we tried to start our own world," he told press including Digital Spy. "Whether or not there's a crossover, we will see.

Now that Marvel’s debuted solo series on Netflix for each of their street-level heroes – that’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist – all eyes have turned towards the upcoming miniseries, The Defenders. However, there’s another Marvel show set to hit the streaming service soon and it’s arguably just as exciting. Of course, we’re referring to The Punisher, which will star Jon Bernthal in the titular role after he first showed up in season 2 of Daredevil.
While we’ve already seen an abundance of set photos from the upcoming series, the studio hasn’t really kicked the marketing machine into gear just yet. Given that it won’t premiere until later this year, that’s understandable, but fans are obviously eager to get a look at what this...

The (somewhat anti-climactic) release of Iron Fist has completed Marvel’s small screen crew and they’re soon to assemble in The Defenders. With a new promo having been released this week, and a viral website launching, we’re seeing a steady trickle of information about the much-hyped street level team-up come our way. Today’s morsel is a couple of pictures from the set, which show us Charlie Cox in costume as Daredevil.
A previously released set video depicted Daredevil Solid Snaking his way into what we guess is the Midland Circle, so it’s a good bet that these shots come from that sequence. Based on the chilled out way the hero is strolling around in broad daylight without a care in the world though, I’m going to bet that the cameras weren’t rolling while these pics were being taken. Still, if you want to see...

We've known for awhile that Activision was planning on developing a Call of Duty film franchise. They announced their initial plans about a year ago and we haven't had any updates since. Now today we've learned that they've been developing something big for the property. According to Activision Blizzard Studios co-presidents Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight ) and Nick Van Dyk, they plan on building a Call fo Duty cinematic universe. This is obviously inspired by the formula that Marvel has found success in with their own movies and TV shows.
While speaking with The Guardian, Sher revealed that they have long-term plans in place for the property that will encompass both movies and TV series. She explains:
“We have plotted out many years. We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops,...

2017-04-06T05:08:59-07:00When Will 'The Defenders' Premiere?
It has been a little over two weeks since Marvel's Iron Fist dropped on Netflix, and since you have likely already binged the entire first season — or decided to skip it altogether — it is time to look ahead to the series we have all been waiting for: The Defenders. And while we have known for quite a bit of time that the highly anticipated team-up is set to be released sometime over the summer, we now have the official date.
In a YouTube video, that has since been removed by Netflix, we see elevator footage of Matt Murdock, Luke Cage, Danny Rand and Jessica Jones together. In the upper right hand corner of the footage is a time stamp. When Jessica Jones notices the camera, she destroys it, stopping the time stamp at exactly "08:18:20:17." And just like that,...

One of the best things to come with Disney’s acquisition of Marvel Comics has been the way in which television has become a haven for superhero narratives, with a diverse range of stories being told. And finally, that will include one of the greatest obscure characters in the Marvel universe — Doreen Green, Aka Squirrel Girl.
Here’s the catch: Squirrel Girl isn’t getting her own show. Instead, she’s set to be just one of the characters featured in “Marvel’s New Warriors,” a new Freeform comedy that was ordered direct to series Wednesday morning.
Until recently, Marvel’s focus has been on creating narratives for a more adult audience, but there are a few projects in the works via Freeform and Hulu focused on young adults — the upcoming “Cloak and Dagger” and “Runaways,” specifically.
Not every show can be a winner, either financially or creatively. “Agent Carter” was beautifully executed,...

It was earlier today that Marvel and Netflix finally revealed when The Defenders will assemble on the online streaming service, and anticipation is understandably at an all-time high to see these heroes come together on the small screen for the first time.
Daredevil kicked things off back in 2015 and the Man Without Fear is so far the only one to have starred in more than just a single season. That gives star Charlie Cox quite a bit more experience than the actors who play Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, so he was understandably glad to have something of a break while shooting The Defenders.
“Do you know what, when we filmed the first two seasons of Daredevil, it destroyed me. Defenders is slightly different because it has four of us. We can’t all be together all the time so there’s a lot more time off. The...

I am of two minds regarding Marvel's Daredevil Season 2 on Netflix. When it was good (as it often was), the action and tension represented some of the best genre work on television; when it was bad (as in the season finale), the storytelling and pacing dragged the show down into a sluggish and nonsensical morass.
Of all the Marvel series on Netflix (including Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and the upcoming Punisher), Daredevil has the deepest roster of allies and adversaries, plus a wealth of fan-favorite storylines to explore -- if the show's producers are bold enough to double-down and properly torture the Man Without Fear, as his canon demands.
Which brings us to today's exciting news: According to a radio interview (via McU Exchange), Daredevil Season 3 will begin shooting later this. Matt Murdock himself, actor Charlie Cox, stated:
"I do that later in the year. We'll go back and do that.

The Defenders finally has a premiere date at Netflix.
A new teaser was quietly released by the streaming giant and it directed viewers to New York Bulletin. At the bottom of the page, it confirmed the premiere date of August 18.
It was certainly a different way to market the series, but it seemed like something Mr. Robot would do to promote its own return.
The long-in-the-works miniseries that finds Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist joining forces to take down a villain who will be played by Sigourney Weaver.
The series will span eight episodes and will pave the way for additional seasons of all four series. Iron Fist has yet to be renewed, but there's no way Netflix would not give it another chance.
The series launched last month to tepid reviews, which was surprising when you consider how well the other three series in the franchise were received.

If I get some Marvel in my day, it’s a good day. So we get a short teaser and a date for the upcoming Marvel Netflix show The Defenders.
Okay this is short so don’t blink but it is a teaser so let’s check it out.
Okay our four heroes finally on screen, together, in an elevator. Okay while that’s not that exciting let’s look at this. It looks like they just got into a fight at what appears to be the Midland Circle Financial building. Also, the 45th floor of said building. Charlie Cox has concerns over showing his face as evidenced by the makeshift mask. The team is certainly agitated before Jessica Jones decides no more prying eyes. Okay Marvel you’ve got my interest. Also there’s an IP there 23.253.120.81 that takes you to http://nybulletin.com/ the paper Karen Page has...

Netflix has become quite the crowded platform for all things Marvel. It all started off modestly enough with a great Daredevil series back in 2015. That year, we got two seasons of different shows — Daredevil and Jessica Jones. The next year, we got two more in the form of Daredevil and Luke Cage. This year, however, looks to be a whole new ball of wax.
We’ve already seen Iron Fist hit the small screen, and while not a lot of critics loved it, fans seemed to enjoy it for what it was. Next on their slate are The Defenders, The Punisher, and (presumably) Jessica Jones Season 2 (which just started shooting yesterday). Very soon, Marvel will become synonymous with the streaming services, and audience will pretty much be able to get their superhero fix year around.

Netflix has released a brief teaser trailer for Marvel's upcoming series The Defenders. It shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist getting into an elevator at Midland Circle Financial and as you'll see they look exhausted and frustrated. Makes me wonder if they just got finished with a big fight.
As you may or may not remember Midland Circle Financial was the operation behind the massive hole in the ground that was dug by The Hand in Daredevil Season 2.
The promo also seemingly reveals the release day. Right before Jessica Jones punches the elevator camera to break it, we see the time code stops at 08:18:20:17. I assume that means The Defenders will premiere this summer on August 18th, 2017.
Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal - to save New York City.

Due to the lack of references on both sides, you may not even remember that the Marvel Netflix shows are a part of the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as Marvel Studios' Avengers series of films. Sure, civilians on the different shows love to reference "the incident," but why didn't anyone recruit the "Devil of Hell's Kitchen" as a teammate in Captain America: Civil War? Isn't Luke Cage a more valuable asset than Hawkeye? Is Iron Man not upset Iron Fist stole half of his name (surely Tony Stark has a copyright on "Iron")? As for Jessica Jones, well, she wouldn't play well with others.
To be fair, aside from Doctor Strange, the recent films in the McU haven't spent any notable time in New York City, home to these Netflix heroes who will become The Defenders later this year. But with Spider-Man not only operating in their city, but...

From getting to watch “Broad City” in class, to examining the same first episode of “The Prisoner” over and over again, studying TV as part of a college curriculum is a mixture of bizarre and relatively run-of-the-mill. To learn more about it for this episode of “Very Good TV,” TV editor Liz Shannon Miller and TV Critic Ben Travers spoke with IndieWire interns Maya, Michael, and Juan about studying TV and how much things have changed since Ben and Liz were at school.
In a climate where TV is more valued than ever before, academia has started to catch up — but dated philosophies on where TV fits into a film studies curriculum have managed to survive. With limited class options and the continued view that TV is just an extension of film (and doesn’t exist on its own), do TV studies lag behind?

Adultery, small-town secrets, murder, penis injuries, sex, lies and Elvis impersonations – if you were looking for a modern version of Peyton Place jacked up on steroids and white wine spritzers, Big Little Lies was your go-to Sunday night viewing. But the limited, seven-episode run of HBO's glossy, seaside soap opera didn't become one of the most talked about TV events of the year just by gathering together an Avengers-like movie-star ensemble cast (Kidman!
