Haley Reinhart is celebrating what would have been David Bowie’s 74th birthday with the release of a powerful cover of one of his most iconic songs, “Heroes.”
Reinhart, who finished third on the 10th season of “American Idol” and became a viral sensation as the face of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox with her cover of Radiohead’s “Creep,” kicks off the 1977 classic a capella, building the song to a triumphantly quiet finish with lush orchestration amidst a subtle arrangement highlighting her clear, emotive vocals.
Reinhart is one of the stars of the Netflix film “We Can Be Heroes,” a top-streamed movie on the platform with 44 million views in its first four weeks. Ten years ago Adam Lambert took the stage during Top 8 week of “American Idol” and gave a haunting performance of “Mad World” that’s still making fans cry to this day. Adam’s stripped-down rendition of the Tears for Fears song from the April 7, 2009 episode is considered by many to be one of the best in the history of the reality TV show. It helped propel the wide-eyed 27-year-old all the way to second place, where he ultimately lost to Kris Allen. Watch the “American Idol” flashback video above.

At Monday’s “American Idol” Top 8 listening session held at EastWest Studios in Hollywood, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan told Gold Derby about the one singer they most regret eliminating in Season 17. “I think about Ryan Hammond,” Katy confessed at the intimate “mix and mingle” event for journalists and influencers. “But ultimately it’s a competition and we can only do as best as we can,” she added.

In honor of “American Idol” bringing back the Judges’ Save for this current 17th season, let’s all take a moment to remember the most dramatic time this twist was utilized. Back in Season 10 after Casey Abrams received the lowest number of votes, then-judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler interrupted him mid-performance of his “save-me” song to tell him that they decided to keep him on the reality TV show. Upon hearing the miraculous news, Casey’s knees buckled and he started hyperventilating, with host Ryan Seacrest trying desperately to prevent him from fainting. Watch the memorable “American Idol” flashback above.

Look, we all know that The Judges' Save is a crapshoot. Yes, it got us more quirky musicality from Casey Abrams and it allowed Jessica Sanchez to make it to the Finals, but how much gratitude should we show an innovation that also prolonged the "Idol" lives of Matt Giraud and Michael Lynche? I guess we should feel lucky that Sam Woolf has survived to participate in a theme that I'm sure is near-and-dear to his heart: '80s Night. Sam isn't the only "Idol" Finalist with a sketchy connection to the '80s. Actually, the total number of remaining contestants who drew breath in the '80s is a resounding "zero." So... This is gonna be fun! 8:00 p.m. Et. We begin with a reminder of last week's "drama," which strongly suggests that if Sam had gone home, this would be '70s Week. This week featured David Cook as a mentor.

Poor Sam Woolf. He received the lowest number of votes Thursday night and wound up being saved by the "American Idol" judges in a dramatic confetti shower that's usually reserved for the season's ultimate winner. But while Sam is busy celebrating his second chance victory, it's time for a reality check: Ever since the Judges' Save was introduced in Season Eight, no one that's been saved has gone on to win the show. -Break- Prior to Sam, a total of four singers were saved from the execution chamber. In Season 8, Matt Giraud was saved in Top 7 Week and was then eliminated for good two weeks later. In Season 9, Michael Lynche was saved in Top 9 Week and wound up lasting five more weeks. In Season 10, Casey Abrams was saved in Top 11 Week and was then eliminated five weeks later. And in Season 11, Jessica Sanchez was saved in Top 7 Week and made...

Or could we be in for an Angie Miller shocker? (No.) The elimination carousel continues on American Idol Thursday, and it's difficult to know what to expect on a number of fronts. The first week of results shows featured Bon Jovi and Phillip Phillips, and we got tons of filler, a top 3, rankings from 4-10 and rapid-fire results. Then last week, featuring Michelle Kwan mini-J-Lo Jessica Sanchez and Casey Abrams, we got a ton of filler, a Bottom three and no rankings at all. Who knows what's on tap tonight?
Actually, there are a couple of things that are certain: Lots of filler, performances by American Idol alum (present company included) and a guy going home. Keith Urban, OneRepublic and Katharine McPhee and Colton Dixon will hit the stage, squeezing in three performances around some form of elimination, as the show once again fails to land any outside superstars.

Lazaro, who had an emotional night on March 20, was named safe just as another Season 12 hopeful sang for survival on the March 21 episode of ‘American Idol’ — did You agree with the results?
Judges Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson were shocked by the bottom three contestants. Were You surprised by the results show, HollywoodLifers?
Season 10 contestant Casey Abrams came on stage with a giant bass. The unrecognizable former Idol and his facial hair scatted his way through The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There.” It was an amazing performance!
The Results Are (Slowly) Revealed
Paul Jolley and Devin Velez were put in the bottom three near the beginning of the show.
After two performances by the hopeful contestants and a lot of commercials, Ryan Seacrest got down to business.
First, Lazaro Arbos, who had the most emotional performance last night, was told he was safe. Poor Lazaro — they keep asking his questions!

It's another night of results on American Idol. We'll continue to whittle the contestants down to the Top 8 with a performance from Casey Abrams. Jessica Sanchez and Ne-Yo are also in the house to showcase their new single.
As always, there will be commentary from everybody's favorite non-judge, Jimmy Iovine, one of which is that the contestants not knowing Beatles songs baffled him. Me too, Jimmy. Me too.
Now let's get to it...
Jimmy felt last night was really confusing and disagreed with the judges' largely complimentary commentary.
Kree Harrison, he thought, was great and deserving of applause. While she tends to oversing, last night she kept that in check. Burnell Taylor recovered nicely from not knowing "Let It Be." Lazaro Arbos, Jimmy felt, had the worst performance of the night. Lazaro said he learned the song the night before when he had five days just like everyone else to learn it.

Time for the Top 9 results for "American Idol." Who do you think is headed home? We'll say at the top that Devin is probably in trouble.
But first, during the recap of the previous night's performances, Jimmy Iovine criticizes the judges for being too nice. They definitely are. They are way too easy on the mediocre guys. Thank goodness Iovine says Lazaro was easily the worst performance of the night, but it's a little late for that, too.
Results time. Wait, just kidding. Group sing first, but it's just the boys. This seems particularly lip-sync-y. Lordy. And now it's Paul Jolley Day at the North Pole or something, and then Ryan Seacrest gets awesome by telling Paul that he's in the Bottom 3 while he hands him his plaque about his special day. This results show is bananas.
Speaking of bananas, Casey Abrams is there to be all coffeehouse-poetry-slam-Beatles. Ok, the scatting is pretty great.

American Idol 2013 eliminated Paul Jolley tonight in March 21st results show. Tonight's elimination show, kicked off with the usual recap of the performances from last night. Then the final contestants got together to serve up another horrible group song. From there, host Ryan Seacrest got right down to business and revealed that Paul Jolley was indeed in the bottom three this week. Thank God. Next, former Idol contestant ,Casey Abrams, hit the stage to sing his rendition of the classic Beatles' hit "I Saw Her Standing There." I'm a little dazed at why he didn't sing an original song from his new album to promote it,but whatever. He missed his shot,I guess. We’re finally past American Idol's pre-taped auditions and selectively-edited Hollywood Week. The field this year is wide open, with no distinct Scotty McCreery-esque favorite. But at last we can see the newest crop of judges, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, handing out their critiques… live. That means we can now fairly compare them to their predecessors on the panel. Are they better? Are they worse? It's time to get all judgey on the judges — and not just on the new guys, but all the previous panelists, too.

Steven Tyler, we’re going to miss you. We tried to drape our great-grandma in scarves and seat her next to a DVD of Gigli, but it just wasn’t the same. American Idol definitely won’t be the same now that the Aerosmith singer decided not to return as an A.I. judge next season. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez seems to be on the fence about her involvement as well. “I am thinking that maybe it’s time for me to go and do other things that I really love to do,” JLo explained on Today…today. “Like films, and right now I’m on tour and performing — all the things that I do.” Cut to Randy Jackson hurling a chair through his dressing room mirror. Hey, that sounds like something Steven Tyler would do! While no greenrooms got trashed during his tenure (wait, were there any? We probably just...

When Casey Abrams appeared on “American Idol” in season 10, he was unlike any other contestant the show had seen: Bushy-bearded and thumping on his upright bass, he cast an immediately memorable figure. In the year since, he’s been hard at work on his post- “Idol” debut. "Casey Abrams," out June 26, is a sunny mix of pop and jazz that feels perfect for a summer day from first single, “Simple Life,” to album closer, “Hit The Road Jack,” a remake of the Ray Charles standard with his “Idol”-mate Haley Reinhart. Abrams calls from a sweltering New York, while on a...

It's all come down to this: the finale of the 11th season of "American Idol", with 21-year-old guitar-strumming southern gentleman Phillip Phillips pitted against 16-year-old vocal powerhouse Jessica Sanchez. There are endless sports-related clichés we could use ("the end of the line," "the bottom of the ninth inning," " the home stretch"), but the point is, the end is really near.
When MTV News caught up with Sanchez moments before she headed into the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles for the start of the finale, we only had enough time to ask about how she was feeling at the end of such a whirlwind of a season.

Unlike in previous years, when I called David Cook "a sociopolitical barometer with an awesome comb-over" and compared Adam Lambert to Barack Obama, I've avoided making sweeping generalizations about the 11th season of "American Idol," mostly because, at this point, there's not much about the show that inspires me to do anything (except complain, of course).
Worn down by the past four seasons — the revolving cast of judges, that time Casey Abrams did Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and, of course, the lilywhite list of champions (Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze and Scotty McCreery) — I've come to view "Idol" for what it really is: a massively bloated, increasingly out-of-touch behemoth,...

U.S. presidents have typically stayed out of the "who is going to win 'American Idol'" fray in the past in order to avoid upsetting any voting blocs. But that doesn't mean that foreign dignitaries can't offer up their two cents.
That might explain why on the eve of the penultimate performance night on "Idol," the Associated Press reported that Philippine president Benigno Aquino III has wholeheartedly endorsed his choice for next week's finale: Jessica Sanchez.
"Hopefully, she really reaches the top," Aquino said of the 16-year-old top three finalists from Chula Vista, California, who is of Filipino and Latin heritage.

On the Wednesday, May 9 "American Idol" performance show, Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler wore tiny pins with the number 6 on their lapels. Now, we've realized they were supporting "Got Your 6," a brand-new campaign aimed toward helping returning military vets readjust to civilian life by providing them with jobs, education and other much-needed support.
In the military, "I've got your 6" means "I've got your back." Stars like Alec Baldwin, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, Milla Jovovich, Bradley Cooper, Sarah Jessica Parker, Tracy Morgan, Brian Williams and more have all pitched in for the campaign.
Even Funny or Die has gotten in on the act, with real-life military vet and comedian Rob Riggle showing people like Taran Killam and "American Idol" vet Casey Abrams that he's got their backs by slapping them really hard. Don't worry, it works in context.
Check out some PSA videos below, and share your support for the campaign in the comments!

The final five has been chosen for American Idol Season 11. Three females and two males remain, but who is going to take the title? This week’s elimination was the most obvious choice, due to the way things have played out each week over the past few weeks. This elimination does not make the inevitable any less disappointing, but America has spoken time and time again.. and finally they spoke loud enough.
Opening the show on the perfect note, The Queen Extravaganza (the official touring Queen tribute) performed their classic, “Somebody To Love” and brought the house down. As fans will see for themselves when they hear Haley Reinhart’s debut album, “Listen Up,” out May 22, the “American Idol” season 10 contestant has really come into her own. Her sultry voice wrapping around the album's jazzy and soulful pop melodies recalls Amy Winehouse, Dusty Springfield, and Regina Spektor. Though her fellow Season 10 contestant and buddy Casey Abrams does not appear on her album, it sounds like she might guest on his forthcoming Concord album, set for release this summer. The two released a spirited version of "Baby It's Cold Outside" as a Christmas gift to their fans and have...

American Idol Top 6 Results: Killer Queen
If I had to come up with a word with what I was feeling going into tonight's American Idol results show, I think it would be resignation. Somehow I knew that I wasn't going to like the results, even though I promised myself no result would surprise me. I didn't like the outcome, and I wasn't surprised. On with the show.
The night started out with the usual dramatic opening, and then a performance by The Queen Extravaganza, singing "Somebody to Love." It was. The whole entire time they were performing I kept thinking of how well the Dartmouth Aires had performed it on The Sing-Off and how much I missed the judges on that show. (Best. Judging. Panel. Ever.)
The Ford video was it's usual bit of fluff, and there was an interesting bit with TMZ. I'm not sure why the contestants were at TMZ,...

We’ve reached the point in the American Idol season when results nights get truly, madly, deeply depressing — and not just because voting off Katy Perry in place of one of the stupendous Top 6 contestants is inexplicably not an option.
But seeing how it was Queen week on Idol, it seems appropriate to find some solace in the words of the late, great Freddie Mercury:
I’ll face it with a grin.
I’m never giving in.
On with the show.
The show must go on.
Yes indeed, no matter how you feel about this week’s elimination — and to be honest,...

Six wannabe Idols sat patiently with their eyes on the prize on tonight’s “American Idol,” awaiting the results of 58 million voters. But before we got them, The Queen Extravaganza made its debut, about to go on tour, singing “Somebody To Love.”
And then they drew it out a little more with the crew from TMZ giving some funny tips and pointers to the Idols on becoming media savvy.
But then it was time, and Jessica and Elise were called to the stage.

The Top 7 are back on "American Idol" in the wake of Jessica Sanchez's save last week. Will it help her? Last year, Casey Abrams went quite a bit farther after his early elimination, but he's also a guy and we all know how hard it has gotten for the ladies on this show. We shall see.
Tonight each Idol is singing two songs, instead of any duets. Maybe last week they wanted that "Stronger" trio back and realized what a giant mistake that was.
1. Hollie Cavanagh, "Rolling in the Deep," Adele
For her contemporary song, Hollie is taking on Adele. Hmm. That's a bold choice right now, but when we close our eyes to just listen, this is actually pretty darn good. She's on pitch and there's an emotion behind her singing we haven't really heard much yet. Hollie finally seemed like not just a robot. And the judges,...

Jessica Sanchez may have had the lowest number of votes on American Idol last week, but she earned the judges' save in a moment even more dramatically befuddling than last season's save of Casey Abrams.
Before Jessica could even sing a full verse of her "save me" song, the Idol judges stormed the stage. Jennifer Lopez yanked the mic from her hand and said, "This is crazy! Yes, we're using the save. You ain't going home. Go sit down; go sit down." Randy Jackson then admonished the...

America, you only have yourself to blame. In a pattern repeated for the past few seasons, "American Idol" viewers seem to get a little lazy this time of year and suddenly forget to vote for their favorites, putting one of the potential winners in jeopardy.
Case in point: preternaturally talented teen diva Jessica Sanchez. Even after killing it on Wednesday night (again) , Bebe Chez very nearly got sent home in seventh place Thursday night in one of the most shocking near-eliminations in recent history.
