Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

American Idol has been headed straight for an iceberg the last couple of seasons — a secret to no one except, perhaps, key executives at Fox and Fremantle Media.
Yet their recent chatter about changes to the show’s upcoming (and pivotal) Season 13 — which has been focused almost entirely on a rebooted judges’ panel, and not a rebooted outlook on what a judges’ panel should actually do – has me concerned that they’re merely slapping a fresh coat of paint on the luxury cruiseliner of reality competition shows. And really, what’s the point of that if the destination continues to...

"In just a bit, I will announce some shocking news that will affect the judges and turn the competition upside down," Ryan Seacreast dramatically announced at the beginning of Wednesday's "American Idol" elimination show.Well, in typical hyped "Idol" fashion, "just a bit" ended up being the entire show, and the "shocking news" was something I predicted: no one was sent home. Basically, "Idol" was running ahead of schedule because the judges didn't use their one save of the season, so there had to be a non-elimination week before the mid-May finale.A true shocker would've been having Jennifer Lopez join the judging panel, which was reportedly being negotiated. But as I wrote yesterday, that would've been ridiculous at this point in the season.Instead, viewers were treated to a nice but forgettable group number, even more forgettable performances by alumns Stefano Langone and Lee DeWyze (whose new single is...

Ryan Seacrest promises that tonight's American Idol will bring a surprise that will turn the competition on its head. But first the remaining contestants have to survive this week's cut and go on to sing another song.
What will the shocking twist be? And who will be left standing? Let's find out now...
The girls come together to sing Alicia Keys' "Girl On Fire." They each shine individually even if they seem to feel awkward with all the choreography. I can't help but think that Naya Rivera did this better on Glee. This wasn't a song written to be sung as a quartet.
Amber Holcomb's recap from last night is first. Jimmy thought she did a great job on "Power Of Love" but doesn't understand her song choice of "MacArthur Park" at all. Apparently, Amber didn't really understand the song either. Jimmy thinks she could be in trouble...

Time for the "American Idol" Top 4 results, but first we are treated to "Girl on Fire" by the remaining ladies. It's predictably awesome, with Angie kicking things off on the piano and everybody else bringing their big ol' voices.
When it's finally results time, the girls are put into Top 2 (Angie and Kree) and Bottom 2 (Amber and Candice). Innnteresting. The way the judges were bagging on Kree last night, we thought for sure she would be in the bottom.
But then! No one is leaving because the judges never used the save, so there's an extra week in the schedule. This week's votes will combine with next week's vote and then next week that person has to go home.
Congratulations to the women, they're all great.
It's like -- this almost isn't even fun anymore because they're all so good, you know? Most years, we can express outrage over somebody unjustly leaving early,...

American Idol 2013 eliminated no one in April 25th results show tonight. Tonight's show kicked off with new "behind the scenes" footage with the final 4 ladies/contestants. Then the girls grouped up together to deliver a performance of "Girl On Fire" by Alicia Keys. Next, they showed another silly video segment with the girls ,playing an equally silly game. From there, they showed recap footage for Amber Holcomb's performances from last night ,along with the brutally honest critiques from Jimmy Iovine. After that, they did the same thing with Kree before heading into former Idol contestant Stefano Langone's video segment. Then he performed his new single ,titled, “Yes to Love” After a break, they showed more recap footage with Candice Glover's performances from last night, and they eventually brought rapstar Drizzy Drake out on to the stage to greet Candice, since she sung his song, "Better Find Your Love,...

Ryan Seacrest kicked off Top 4 results night on Season 12 of American Idol with a speech that — depending on your outlook in life, or at least reality television — sounded either incredibly hopeful or deeply ominous: “I will announce some shocking news that will affect the judges and turn the competition upside down. It’s gonna be another serious night of drama.”
Ryan, who’s hummed along this season as quietly and efficiently — and with as little fanfare — as a high-end refrigerator, had already hinted at a “surprise twist” in the Idol proceedings at the end of Wednesday’s Top 4 performance show.

(Sorry, wannabe Ke$has!) Turn-ons include girl-next-door charm, working-class backstories and the ability to crush a glory note like The Rock slamming his fist down on an empty Diet Coke can. Survivor: Philippines is getting more predictable each week, yet the show is entertaining the hell out of me. How? Well, the Matsing tribe is shaping up to be a bigger tragedy than the following items: 1) Gilda Radner's death at the age of 42; 2) the Hindenberg stuffed with three Exxon-Valdezes; 3) Jeff Probst's hunger for daytime TV acceptance. The Matsing losing streak is just spellbinding. It can't get any worse for these guys, but mysteriously, the show keeps getting better for us. Here are my five most ponder-worthy observations about last night's episode.
1. If your favorite tribe isn't Matsing, I don't understand.
Have you taken a close look at the Kalabaw and Tandang tribes? Because it hurts. Even a passing glance makes you realize they're filled with unlikable people. Abi-Maria is a huffy spazz, R.C. is self-impressed and condescending, Lisa Whelchel and Jeff Kent are downright antigay, Pete is melodramatic,...

American Idol star Stefano Langone has said that he expected Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez to leave the series. Lopez and Tyler both confirmed last week that they will not return when American Idol launches season 12 in 2013. Langone, who worked with both in season 10, has now told MTV News that it only makes sense for Tyler and Lopez to leave the Fox series at this point. "I wasn't surprised at all, especially with Jennifer Lopez," the singer said. "That's her staple in what she does in the industry, that's how she's carried her career throughout." He continued: "Whether it was movies for a couple years, then she did music for a couple years and then she would do whatever for a couple years and then move on and master whatever she did. "So she got on the biggest television show in (more)...

It's all come down to this: the finale of the 11th season of "American Idol", with 21-year-old guitar-strumming southern gentleman Phillip Phillips pitted against 16-year-old vocal powerhouse Jessica Sanchez. There are endless sports-related clichés we could use ("the end of the line," "the bottom of the ninth inning," " the home stretch"), but the point is, the end is really near.
When MTV News caught up with Sanchez moments before she headed into the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles for the start of the finale, we only had enough time to ask about how she was feeling at the end of such a whirlwind of a season.

The ensemble for Bombshell, Smash‘s musical-within-a-show, is set to swell based on these casting calls for not one or two but three new series regulars being added for Season 2.
For starters, NBC’s musical drama is looking to cast the role of Courtney, an African-American chorus member in her mid- to late-20s who packs a powerhouse voice. The final five has been chosen for American Idol Season 11. Three females and two males remain, but who is going to take the title? This week’s elimination was the most obvious choice, due to the way things have played out each week over the past few weeks. This elimination does not make the inevitable any less disappointing, but America has spoken time and time again.. and finally they spoke loud enough.

American Idol Top 6 Results: Killer Queen
If I had to come up with a word with what I was feeling going into tonight's American Idol results show, I think it would be resignation. Somehow I knew that I wasn't going to like the results, even though I promised myself no result would surprise me. I didn't like the outcome, and I wasn't surprised. On with the show.
The night started out with the usual dramatic opening, and then a performance by The Queen Extravaganza, singing "Somebody to Love." It was. The whole entire time they were performing I kept thinking of how well the Dartmouth Aires had performed it on The Sing-Off and how much I missed the judges on that show. (Best. Judging. Panel. Ever.)
The Ford video was it's usual bit of fluff, and there was an interesting bit with TMZ. I'm not sure why the contestants were at TMZ,...

We’ve reached the point in the American Idol season when results nights get truly, madly, deeply depressing — and not just because voting off Katy Perry in place of one of the stupendous Top 6 contestants is inexplicably not an option.

I’ll face it with a grin.
I’m never giving in.
On with the show.

Tonight, in addition to finding out who is leaving American Idol, we will be treated to a performance from Stefano Langone. Yes, The Stefano Langone! And some person named "Katy Perry" I guess. This week, the contestants performed songs from Queen, and songs of their own choice. The judges rose to their feet no fewer than three times, and I wasn't sure how to feel about any of it. John thinks that, based on stats, Skylar will be going home tonight. I think, based on anger, it will be Elise. That "what the other contestants think of you" clip package did her no favors.

Although Thursday's American Idol results show featuring Katy Perry and season 10's Stefano Langone is merely hours away, Idol producers created a buzz with an early morning tweet from the show's Twitter account: “Breaking news! @Coldplay will be performing on #idol next Thursday, May 3rd! Another one bit the dust, but this one wasn't hard to see coming.
After two weeks of shocking elimination episodes, "American Idol" took a break from the surprises Thursday (April 26), sending perpetual bottom-dweller Elise Testone home.
Testone, the 28-year-old from Charleston, South Carolina, had faced elimination so many times that "Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine joked she had a "vacation home" in the bottom three.
Testone came up on the short end of the reported 58 million votes cast following Wednesday's performance episode, where she took on Queen's "I Want It All" and a very wordy rendition of Jimi Hendrix's "Bold as Love." Following the Hendrix song, Randy Jackson told her it "wasn't the right song for this time in the competition," and on Thursday's show, Iovine called...

Joined by Brian May and Roger Taylor, original members of the legendary rock group Queen, viewers were treated to a Queen medley to open the show that was all about Queen in its first hour. Whether you know the songs that were featured or not, the night brought a great night of music and tough competition when it came down to voting.

If "American Idol" was decided by whoever received the most standing ovations from the judges, Joshua Ledet would have this year's competition in the bag.
Ledet racked up two more standing O's from the judges on Wednesday's (April 25) "Idol," which found the contestants singing two songs apiece: one from Queen, and another of their own choosing.
That brought Ledet's unofficial standing ovation season total to 12 — that figure according to Skylar Laine, who ribbed him backstage for receiving a dozen standing O's over the course of the season.
Ledet first got a rise out of the judges with his version of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," which caused Jennifer Lopez to ask, "Is it bad for me to say the Joshua part of the show...

There’s this weird part of the week — from Friday morning till Monday evening — when not a single major TV network airs a reality singing competition. It’s terrible, I know, but it also gives me a lot of time to ponder American Idol history. (Everyone does this in their free time, yes?) And my latest flight of Idol fancy got me mulling this question: Was Season 11′s Top 10 the strongest — top to bottom — in show history? Let’s examine:
For starters, I’d automatically rule out the five seasons with three or more Top 10 contestants who probably wouldn’t have outlasted Season 11′s No.

American Idol is hyped as a showcase for great vocalists who could be hitmakers. That's dishonest. American Idol, most of the time, is a showcase for hot people who want your attention. And I confess: Some of them deserve it! Today I'm counting down the ten hottest dudes ever to take the Idol stage, and I'm offering pictorial proof too! Warm up your vocal cords and prepare to sing out in ecstasy, y'all.

Ok, let's make a pact: If we forget the unnerving, deeply troubling scandal that erupted around season four Top 24 competitor Mario Vazquez (which forced him to drop out of the competition), we can simply admire his boyish, sweet looks like a nicely blended oil painting. His cover of "I Love Music" is deeply underrated, by the way. Listen to that. Not the creepy other stuff.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. The road to the American Idol crown, however, is littered with the wreckage of Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder songs done very, very wrong.
It’s a testament to the Season 11 Top 13, then, that on a night where the ladies were asked to cover Whitney, and the gentlemen tackled Stevie, we barely heard the sound of tires squealing and metal combusting against metal. Oh, sure, there were a couple of minor fender-benders (from contestants whose names rhyme with Man-In Da-Pain and Yer-Pain Moans), but for the most part, the current crop...

The Trevor Project’s annual December event, Trevor Live, never disappoints and always seems to top the previous year’s show, and last night's event at the Hollywood Palladium was no exception.
With Special Guest Director Adam Shankman running the show as he did to much success last year, the 2½ hour production was fluid in pacing and had some big laughs (thanks to ‘Voice of God’ emcee Amy Poehler), more than a few tears and raised funds to keep the Trevor Project going strong. Also present to accept the Trevor Hero Award was Lady Gaga herself, who did not perform but accepted the award and made sure to praise the memory of Jamey Rodemeyer, the 14-year old Buffalo teen who committed suicide in September. The singer also said the Hero Award meant more to her than any Grammy and vowed to continue the fight to make bullying illegal.
