It was a year when teenagers stood up to the boogeyman that haunted their dreams, when commandos met their otherworldly match in the jungle, and when a group of monster-loving kids saved their town from the very same creatures they admired. In a decade that truly embraced scares on the big screen, 1987 was a standout year for theatrical horror, and on a new episode of Corpse Club, the ghoulish gang discusses the eclectic and altogether eerie Class of ’87, which we've been celebrating this summer on Daily Dead.
Titled "Celebrating the Horror Films of 1987," episode 11 of Corpse Club features co-hosts Heather Wixson, Patrick Bromley, Scott Drebit, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James. This time around at the cemetery, we celebrate the horror genre's Class of 1987 by looking back at our favorite horror movies released that year. In 1987, bloodsuckers hit the big screen in two immensely different vampire movies: The Lost Boys and Near Dark. The former featured a vibrant beachside setting, an epic saxophone solo, and "death by stereo." The latter took place in quiet small towns and showed the mean, messy, and murderous price to be paid for immortality. Nearly 30 years later, both movies are still beloved by fans, making this the perfect time for the Corpse Club to make sure that we, like Tim Cappello, "still believe," as we celebrate two of the most memorable horror movies of 1987.
Titled "Celebrating The Lost Boys and Near Dark," episode 10 of Corpse Club features co-hosts Heather Wixson, Patrick Bromley, Scott Drebit, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James. Listen to the Daily Dead Team Discuss the Legacy of George A. Romero on a New Episode of our Podcast
The horror genre that we know and love wouldn't be what it is today without George A. Romero, and like countless cinema lovers, the Daily Dead team was deeply saddened by the news of Romero's passing. To honor the forward-thinking filmmaker, we reflect on his work, legacy, and lovable personality on the latest episode of our Corpse Club podcast.
A special tribute episode to George A. Romero, episode 9 of Corpse Club features co-hosts Heather Wixson, Patrick Bromley, Scott Drebit, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James. This time around, we discuss Romero's eclectic filmography, including our first encounters with Romero's bold work, his films that we feel are overlooked, and the movies from his career that have resonated with us the most. Several of us also share cherished memories of meeting Romero, whose generous personality and sense of humor will be remembered forever by those fortunate enough to meet him.

One person's trash is another person's treasure, and in the case of the Scavengers from AMC's The Walking Dead, it quite literally makes up the walls of their homes. Along with the Alexandria Safe Zone, Negan's Sanctuary, and The Kingdom, the Scavengers' junkyard makes up part of the core structure of AMC's The Walking Dead booth at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and we have photos from our time spent inside the walker-filled attraction, including looks at Negan's human-burning furnace, Ezekiel's pet tiger Shiva, and much more.
Shepherded by the sweatshirt-wearing workers of the Sanctuary, attendees of The Walking Dead booth can travel through the creepy confines of the immersive experience. Walkers rattle the chain link fences and lumber close to your warm flesh, leaning in for a fridge-door-worthy photo op... or perhaps to take a bite of your arm if you're not careful.

Clay McLeod Chapman doesn't just write horror, he performs it in The Pumpkin Pie Show, an immersive storytelling experience that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing Chapman perform (which our own Daily Dead Editor-in-Chief Jonathan James experienced at The Overlook Film Festival), you can certainly read his work anytime in a number of books, including his new short story collection, Nothing Untoward: Stories from The Pumpkin Pie Show. To celebrate the release of his new collection, we caught up with Chapman for our latest Q&A feature to discuss his literary influences, twenty years of The Pumpkin Pie Show, writing The Tribe trilogy for Disney press, and his upcoming Marvel project that he describes as "a love story between Deadpool and Venom."
What authors and storytellers were you drawn to in your formative years that influenced your own writing and performing?

Written with Craig Sanborn and scheduled to come out in hardcover on August 8th, 2017 from St. Martin's Press, Hail to the Chin: Further Confessions of a B Movie Actor is Campbell's follow-up book to 2002's If Chins Could Kill.
In Jonathan James' recent interview with Campbell, the Ash vs Evil Dead actor discussed his upcoming autobiography:
"I realize it's been fifteen years since the first book, and there's been a lot of crazy stuff I've been involved with: going to Iraq in ’09 to see the troops, making movies in Columbia. There are a lot more stories to tell, so that's coming out from St Martin's Press probably around August of next year. And I'll do a three-month tour to support it, so I'll...

Over the years, Robert Kirkman has referred to The Walking Dead comic book series as a “zombie movie that never ends,” but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Kirkman discussed the inevitable endgame of his beloved series.
Speaking with Rolling Stone‘s David Fear, Kirkman had the following to say when asked if he has a conclusion planned for The Walking Dead:
“For the books? I do. I know how the story wraps up. The big question is when and how far in the distance that is. But I think that most people think, oh, why would he end it? It’s so successful, he’s going to keep throwing shit at the wall to keep it going. And that’s not going to happen. You’ll eventually be able to see that it all kind of comes together.”

Today is a big day for the team here at Daily Dead and, rather than send out our press release to everyone right away, I thought it was important to share the news with our readers first. It’s a simple fact that this site wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for readers that support us every day, and the dedicated and talented writers that have joined Daily Dead over the years.
I started Daily Dead with two basic goals: to have an outlet to share my love of horror and sci-fi, and to connect with readers and writers who had the same kind of passion for these genres. Since opening in late 2010, I’ve been fortunate to meet many readers online and in person, and I’m honored that you’ve made us your source for horror and sci-fi news. by Mark Johnson HollywoodNews.com: It is probably way too early in his career to do a Circuit 3 on Christopher Nolan, but with The Dark Knight Rises in theatres (and #1 at the box office for the second week in a row) it seemed like a fine time to recognize the director and help him celebrate his 42nd birthday. Born July 30th, 1970 in London, England, Christopher Jonathan James Nolan has come to be known as one of the finest directors working today, and has put together a resume over the last dozen years as equally impressive, or perhaps greater, than anyone else in that span. He is a dual citizen of both the United Kingdom and the United States, having split his childhood between London and Chicago, Illinois. His filmmaking career began at the crisp, young age of seven, when he would use his father's Super 8 camera to make short films using his action figures.

Dracula Resurrected. That would be a good title (methinks) for a new Hammer Films release starring Jean Dujardin as Count Dracula. What? Hammer and Dracula together again? Well, read on… Thanks to the success of the Daniel Radcliffe vehicle The Woman in Black, the recently resurrected Hammer Films may try its hand at another Dracula movie, says Jonathan James in The Daily Dead. During a recent interview with Hammer historian Marcus Hearn, The Daily Dead learned that Hammer is planning a Dracula movie set in the 21st century. Said Hearn: “The company’s chairman, Simon Oakes, is talking about making a new Dracula, and setting it in present-day London. It’s fun to speculate who could step into Christopher Lee’s shoes. Just last year I would probably have dismissed the idea of another Hammer Dracula as quite far-fetched, but I think the success of The Woman in Black has...

With zombies infecting all areas of pop culture, it’s easy to miss a new property or think that it is just more of the same. The Walking Dead may be the most popular zombie comic book title, but the team behind ’68 give zombie fans a different look at the zombie pandemic by taking readers into the Vietnam War.
’68 is off to an impressive start and I recently got a chance to talk with Mark Kidwell and Jay Fotos about all things ’68. We cover the Romero zombie rules, unanswered questions from the first 4 issues, and future plans.
Jonathan James: Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. Can you introduce yourselves to Daily Dead readers and tell them a little bit about your work in the comic book industry?
Mark: I’ve worked professionally in comics for nearly a decade and have produced or contributed to dozens of books,...
