The long-foretold end of Peak TV may be upon us, as studios and streamers — adjusting to a new world of inflation, higher interest rates, and a slowdown in stock prices and subscriber figures — slash costs and reevaluate strategy. The result, whether at Warner Bros. Discovery (which has already taken $3.5 billion in content write-downs and canceled several planned or in-production series) or at the BBC (which needs to chop more than $120 million from its originals budget if it is to meet savings targets) will mean less money for producers and, one assumes, fewer shows getting commissioned.
Nonscripted content, which is cheaper and easier to ramp up to fill programming slots, will be the most obvious beneficiary of this belt-tightening, with much of the focus of the upcoming MIPTV market on less glamorous but typically more profitable reality TV, “shiny floor” entertainment (à la The Voice) and game shows.

In our Q&a series Popsugar Crush, we get to know some of our favorite celebs' more intimate details - from their perfect date night to their best love advice. This month, we're crushing on "Grey's Anatomy" series regular Jake Borelli.
Dr. Levi Schmitt's entrance into the "Grey's Anatomy" universe was a memorable one. In the season 14 premiere episode, intern Schmitt's first day at Grey Sloan Memorial is punctuated by his glasses accidentally falling into an open body cavity. His portrayer, Jake Borelli, says Dr. Schmitt's trajectory since - through hell and back in recent seasons - has "mirrored" much of his own path with the long-running ABC medical drama.
"When I first started the show . . . I was jumping on a moving train and being thrust into work with a lot of these idols that I had looked up to, in terms of television actors and whatnot," Borelli tells Popsugar.

Grey’s Anatomy’s Season 18 finale left the fate of several major characters in limbo, leaving fans to fret over the summer if their favorites are coming back.
Deadline already broke the news that star Ellen Pompeo will be scaling back her on-screen presence, appearing in eight episodes next season while remaining an executive producer. Also switching from a series regular to recurring status for Season 19 is Scott Speedman. The news is not surprising; the former Animal Kingdom star had signed a one-year series regular contract for Season 18 as a romantic interest for Pompeo’s Meredith. At the end of the Season 18 finale, Meredith and Speedman’s Nick had a falling out, she told him that he should probably go back to Minnesota. He walked out, she eventually ran after him but he was gone in one of the finale’s many cliffhangers.

Cormac Hayes has exited Grey Sloan Memorial.
Meanwhile on Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 10, Teddy is determined to find out what Owen is up to, Link's new personality needs an overhaul, and the Webber Method is no more.
Join Meaghan Frey, Joshua Johnson, and Jasmin Pettie to discuss it all.
Did Hayes have a decent send-off? How'd you feel about his departure and parting words?
Meaghan: The send-off was so anti-climatic that I was almost questioning whether he was actually leaving.
His parting words to Mer were incredibly sweet and honestly felt like the best MerHayes moment we have gotten thus far; then she went and ruined it.
You too. You Too?! That's all you had to say to those beautiful words, Meredith? I can't.
It is just further evidence of how much they dropped the ball on Hayes as a character.

Richard Flood has officially removed his lab coat. On March 3, Flood said goodbye to his role as series regular Dr. Cormac Hayes on Grey's Anatomy. During the episode, his character resigned as Head of Pediatric Surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial. And now, the actor is opening up about his decision to step away from ABC's popular medical drama. "Having three years on the show felt right for me," he told Deadline. "And I think that the arc of the character with all the developments in the story was probably coming to its natural end, which was great. I was very happy that everybody felt the same, and they just got to it." Flood explained that the writers of the...

Confession, the saying goes, is good for the soul. But when faced with the prospect of making one in Thursday’s Grey’s Anatomy, both Owen and Jo pressed “pause” — and understandably so. If he came clean about the steps he’d taken to help dying soldiers end their lives on their own terms, it might keep Cormac in Seattle but land Hunt himself in a whole mess of trouble. And if Jo disclosed that she wasn’t merely in lust with Link, she could jeopardize their longstanding friendship. Did either of them muster up the courage to speak their truth?...

In tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy, which marked series regular Richard Flood’s final episode on the show, Teddy continued her quest to find out what happened in the car after she left which she (rightfully so) suspected led to Cormac Hayes’ (Flood) abrupt resignation.
Owen refused to confide in her that he had been assisting terminally ill veterans who want to end their lives, a secret that forced Hayes’ hand as he opted to quit faced with the dilemma of either having to report his friend or become an accomplice.
In one of Flood’s final two scenes, Teddy confronted Hayes in the parking lot as he was carrying his belongings to his car but he would not tell her, sending her back to Owen. By the end of the episode, she...

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 18 Episode 10 of Grey’s Anatomy, “Living in a House Divided.”
It’s official: Grey’s Anatomy series regular Richard Flood is leaving the venerable medical drama after playing Dr. Cormac Hayes for the past three seasons. As Grey’s traditionally does with its departing major cast members, Flood’s final episode tonight featured one last scene with series star Ellen Pompeo as Hayes and Meredith Grey got to say a proper goodbye.
In the episode, Hayes, in street clothes, bumped into Meredith (Pompeo) at Grey Sloan Memorial after he’d handed Bailey his resignation last week, telling her that he was returning to Ireland with his kids.
“So what, your whole life flashed before your eyes, and you realized you are unhappy and need to quit?” Meredith asked him.

"He goes with his gut, sometimes he gets it right, sometimes he gets it wrong," he added of the fateful decision.
"In this instance, sitting in the front of the car, he sees the writing on the wall, and I think it was the right call."
"It was pretty noble of him to do that. I love that about Owen. He is very flawed as a man – as many people are – but he's got a very good heart at the end of the day."

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 18 Episode 9 of Grey’s Anatomy, “No Time To Die”.
The last time we saw Kevin McKidd’s Owen Hunt, he was in an SUV, rolling down a ravine. The Station 19-Grey’s Anatomy midseason premiere crossover revealed Owen’s fate. He was rescued by the Station 19 crew and taken to Grey Sloan Memorial where he was treated for his extensive injuries, including to his spine and a shattered leg. He underwent a successful emergency surgery on both.
Also successful was Farouk’s “miracle” heart transplant surgery despite a bruise the donor heart had sustained in the crash.
Amid the joy, there was heartache too. Schmitt was having a very hard time after losing his first patient in the Or. The shock sent him into a catatonic state as he spent the episode vigorously scrubbing his hands until his friends intervened.

Wow, that was a lot.
On the one hand, Owen Hunt lives, and it seems that he will get to walk again and operate too. Ironically, for most of Grey's Anatomy Season 18 Episode 9, the real drama didn't pertain to if Owen's life hung in the balance but if his career did.
And in the end, the closest we came to a goodbye was Hayes choosing to resign! Did anyone see that coming?
It's disappointing that we're likely losing Richard Flood's Cormac Hayes. He's a character brimming with so much potential, but they have done absolutely nothing with him, and I don't understand why.
They set him up as a possible love interest for Meredith, and he even got the Cristina stamp of approval. He was a literal gift from her twisted sister. But strangely, they never went anywhere with that.
One can argue that Covid killed whatever storyline was in the works,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “No Time to Die,” the Feb. 24 episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
When viewers last saw Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) in December’s “Grey’s Anatomy” midseason finale cliffhanger, he literally fell off a cliff, seemingly to his death.
In that episode, “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” Owen, his wife Teddy (Kim Raver) and Hayes (Richard Flood) had gone to retrieve a donor heart for Owen’s nephew, Farouk (Bardia Seiri), who would die without it — which would destroy Megan (Abigail Spencer), Owen’s sister. The trio of doctors had gone in order to ensure that nothing would go wrong with the transfer.
But this is “Grey’s Anatomy,” so suffice it to say, something did: Their driver had a massive stroke, causing the car to veer off the road, and perch precipitously at the edge of a cliff. At Owen’s insistence,...

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 18 Episode 9 of Grey’s Anatomy.
Exclusive: In a classic Grey’s Anatomy twist, one actor’s character has their life in grave danger but another one ends up heading for the exit.
I hear Richard Flood, who has played Dr. Cormac Hayes for the past three seasons, is leaving the venerable medical drama. According to sources, his final episode will be next week. Reps for ABC and Shondaland declined comment.
In tonight’s midseason premiere, Hayes handed Bailey his resignation and told her that he was returning to Ireland with his kids. His decision was prompted by Owen’s request in the winter finale for Hayes to carry on with his initiative of providing dying soldiers with drugs in doctor-assisted deaths. Owen asked Hayes for help in case he didn’t survive the car accident, which had the two of them and Teddy perched on a cliff.

It looks like some drama is about to hit the Seattle Fire Department — but first, the first responders of Station 19 have a doctor of Grey’s Anatomy to rescue when the two shows return with a winter premiere crossover event on February 24. It all kicks off on Station 19, as we meet Seattle’s first female fire chief, Ross (Merle Dandridge), who has a past with Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe). Are they exes? What we do know is it’s apparently been 15 years since they last saw each other. Cue jealousy from Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz)? But the majority of that will probably have to wait until after the crossover, considering that Grey’s Anatomy left Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) in a car going over a ridge in its winter finale in December. Dr. Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood), whom Owen had forced to climb out, could only watch, while Dr.

Grey's Anatomy might seriously outlive us all.
The veteran ABC drama was renewed for a milestone 19th season earlier this week.
Craig Erwich, President, ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, said at TCA on Tuesday that the show remains a priority for the network, and that the network would have as much of the series as they can have.
However, he ultimately said that Ellen Pompeo, Shonda Rhimes, and Krista Vernoff would make the ultimate decision about when to bring the show to a close.
“Grey’s Anatomy is still at the top of its game creatively, it’s our most watched drama, it’s one of the top shows on television,” he said, according to Deadline.
“I think the current season they are having is extraordinary, we are delving into stories and characters in as deeper way as we ever had."
"Ultimately, any decisions around that franchise are going to be...

Grey’s Anatomy‘s record-breaking run will continue — with its leading lady Ellen Pompeo. ABC has renewed Shondaland’s hugely popular medical drama for a 19th season, and Pompeo has signed a new one-year deal to continue as the show’s title character, Meredith Grey. Pompeo also has been upped from co-executive producer to executive producer for Season 19. Fellow executive producer Krista Vernoff will remain at the helm of the series as showrunner.
Just like it did at the time of the Season 18 renewal in May 2021, ABC is not designating Season 19 as a final one for the show or its star Pompeo — for now.
Deadline revealed last month that renewal talks between ABC and producing studio ABC Signature were underway for a potential 19th season of Grey’s Anatomy and that Pompeo also had been approached about staying on the show for another season. Negotiations progressed quickly, and it came down to closing a deal with Pompeo,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 8 “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear.”] Well, the good news is you’ll only have to wait until February 24 to learn the fate of the Grey’s Anatomy doctor in the car as it went over a ridge — and that’ll happen in an event that once again brings together the ABC medical drama and its spinoff, Station 19. In the Grey’s midseason finale, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), and Dr. Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) traveled to pick up a heart for Dr. Megan Hunt’s (Abigail Spencer) son, Farouk. But an accident on the way back — the driver had a stroke — left their car on its side, ready to tip over a ridge if anyone moved the wrong way. Teddy was able to climb out and make it to the road with the heart, then Owen forced Hayes to climb out,...
