Valerie has been nominated for three Atlas Awards from the Old Globe Theatre, San Diego, California, winning two for her performances in "The Impossible Years," and "Six Rooms, River View."
She studied at the University of California San Diego and San Diego State University.
After teaching high school Drama classes for several years, Valerie became a recreation leader with the San Diego Park and Recreation Department, spending fifteen years as a drama and creative arts director.
