Frank Herbert wrote six “Dune” novels, but Quebecois director Denis Villeneuve has made it clear that after book two, “Dune Messiah,” he’s quitting the worm-ridden desert planet Arrakis, despite his box office wins and forging such fans as Steven Spielberg. As reported by Deadline, Legendary Entertainment has secured the rights to Annie Jacobsen’s nonfiction work “Nuclear War: A Scenario” as an option for him once he’s ready to return to Earth.
Jacobsen’s book, which hit stores less than two weeks ago, is the result of a decade of research resulting in a realistic, step-by-step “just what the hell would it be like if this nightmare came true.” Just reading the New York Times review is absolutely terrifying.
Her previous works include “Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base,” “Operation Paperclip: The Secret Intelligence Program that Brought Nazi Scientists to America” and...

Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve just had his Dune: Part Two released; the film has become a major hit around the world and is set to be a major contender during the upcoming awards season. But, it seems that the success of Oppenheimer during this year’s award season will influence one of Villeneuve’s upcoming projects. Oppenheimer, while telling the story of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, also told us about the horrors of atomic weapons, and it seems that Legendary Pictures wants to capitalize on that with Villeneuve.
Namely, it has been reported that Legendary is slated to adapt Annie Jacobsen’s non-fiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario into a feature film and Villeneuve is eyed to direct the project, as per the current reports. The project is still a long way from being realized, but these reports are certainly great news.

As the saying goes, the mystery of Denis Villeneuve's upcoming projects isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience. And whilst we wait with baited breath for further word on Villeneuve's eagerly awaited Arthur C. Clarke adaptation Rendezvous With Rama (which is still expected to be the Quebecois filmmaker's next feature), we do at least have confirmation of another hotly anticipated Denis sci-fi epic headed our way. Yes folks, with the epic Dune Part Two smashing it at the global box-office, we can finally rest easy in the knowledge that Villeneuve is making further steps towards finishing his Dune trilogy at Legendary Pictures.
Per Deadline, Dune: Messiah — or Dune Part Three if you'd prefer — is in development at Legendary, with the franchise's very own Lisan al-Gaib, Villeneuve himself, set to helm the trilogy closer. And though there's no news as of yet on casting, filming, or even a speculative release date,...

The nuclear war genre has long been a staple in Tinseltown, with filmmakers putting their own unique spin on the catastrophic scenario. And, when it comes to nuclear, not discussing last year’s Oppenheimer will not do us any favors. Whether it is the ocean eyes of Cillian Murphy or Ludwig Göransson’s relentless score, the film is clearly one of Christopher Nolan’s greatest works.
And it appears that Denis Villeneuve is following in Nolan’s footsteps, as the former may have found his next project in the same genre. The Dune director and Legendary are in talks to collaborate on an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario.
Cillian Murphy in and as Oppenheimer
That being said, we are eager to see if Villeneuve’s approach to this dreaded topic will pose a serious threat to Oscar winner Oppenheimer.

Director Denis Villeneuve is currently developing Dune: Messiah, but it’s also being reported that he’ll adapt the non-fiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario after that.
We heard last month that a sequel to this year’s sci-fi opus Dune: Part Two was greenlit and in the process of being written at Legendary Entertainment. While Dune: Messiah bubbles on the stove, though, it’s being reported that director Denis Villeneuve has another project in the works at Legendary – an adaptation of the book Nuclear War: A Scenario.
A New York Times best seller by Annie Jacobsen, Nuclear War is described by its publisher Penguin as a “edge-of-your-seat thriller” with the author basing her what-if vision of armageddon on interviews with military experts.
Deadline reports that Legendary has bought the rights to the novel, and that Villeneuve is expected to make Nuclear War after he’s finished Dune: Messiah.

Dune 2 Stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh In Pivotal Roles (Photo Credit –Facebook)
Dune has over the cinematic world and the box office. Director Denis Villeneuve’s dystopian vision broke through the cinema thresholds back in 2021 with the film adaptation of Dune. The highly anticipated sequel Dune 2, starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and more is close to minting over $680 Million worldwide. And for die-hard fans of the franchise, there is good news on the block: Dune 3 is happening! Legendary Pictures announced that Denis Villeneuve will be collaborating with the production for not one but two major motion pictures. And the highly anticipated Dune: Messiah is one of them!
Based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune is always three movies. Considering the end of Dune 2, a third movie is pivotal to Paul Atredis’s fate and how the consequences of the sequel affect the story’s arc in general.

Imagine being born with the gift of foresight and predicting decades ago that, one day, there would be a live-action "Dune" franchise. And not only would it prove accessible to mainstream audiences, but it would also end up becoming a genuine pop-culture event and eventually spawn three entire movies from one of our most talented filmmakers around. Well, the people have spoken and their wishes couldn't be clearer: more desert, more Arrakis, and more "Dune."
After opening weekend box office numbers for "Dune: Part Two" surpassed early tracking figures, boosted by positive critical responses (including /Film's review by Chris Evangelista) and word of mouth spreading from fan screenings, the obvious has finally become official. Legendary announced that, essentially, it loves money and would like to remain in the money-making business by giving the green light to a third "Dune" movie, which is currently untitled. After Christopher Nolan’s award-winning success with Oppenheimer, Denis Villeneuve, another of Hollywood’s premiere directors, will tackle the threat of nuclear fallout with an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize -finalist Annie Jacobsen’s non-fiction novel Nuclear War: A Scenario. The project finds Villeneuve reteaming with Legendary, with plans to complete the nuclear drama before going into production on the final film in the Dune trilogy, Dune: Messiah.
Deadline‘s exclusive report says the deal for Nuclear War: A Scenario is worth $500,000 against $1.5 million. The evidence explored in Jacobsen’s novel is truly terrifying, especially since the threat of nuclear war is real and could happen at any given moment. Here’s a synopsis for Nuclear War: A Scenario courtesy of Amazon:

Just as it was looking to be a disappointing end to the Roswell story, we were hit with a whopper,

The theory that the "aliens" were Josef Mengele experiments and that they were sent by Stalin to create a UFO panic in the U.S. is a true theory.
This wild explanation of the Roswell incident comes from Annie Jacobsen's 2011 book, Area 51.
