House of the Dragon season 1 introduced us to House Velaryon, an old Valyrian House whose members are master seafarers. The seat of House Velaryon is on Driftmark, with the head of the House holding the title “Lord of the Tides.”
In season 1, the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), held this title. Though the title was to pass to his son Ser Laenor, we witnessed the Velaryon lord fleeing the land of Westeros. This left Corlys without an heir.
However, we will see events from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood come to life in House of the Dragon Season 2. The show will introduce two new characters from the town of Hull on Driftmark.
The first, Addam of Hull, will fight for the Blacks as a dragonrider. His brother Alyn Velaryon, also called Alyn Oakenfist and Alyn of Hull, however, has a different destiny. The latest House of...

HBO has released the first full-length trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 (via SFFGazette.com), and brace yourselves because it's epic. In the newly released footage, we see more of the scheming which continues in Westeros as war beckons between Queen Alicent Hightower and Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The Targaryen civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons" is nearly upon us and this sneak peek does a phenomenal job of setting the stage for the conflict to come.
All the major players are highlighted, with the sneak peek ending on a suitably epic note as Rhaenyra stands tall with Syrax looming large behind her. Who will prevail? Book readers (and most Game of Thrones fans) will know, but we won't spoil anything here,
"The first season was so much about the royal family, that 1 percent of the upper 1 percent that rules this world. All the people in the...

On Tuesday, HBO released the full trailer for “House of the Dragon” Season 2, which premieres June 16.
The eight-episode second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel finds the Targaryens in a civil war, with the Greens – supporters of Aegon II Targaryn (Tom Glynn-Carney), son of late king Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the traditional heir – on one side, and the Blacks – partisans of Viserys’ daughter Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), Viserys’ chosen heir, and her husband/uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) on the other. Both sides claim the Iron Throne, and they will kill their kin to get it.
The trailer previews the combination of political strategy, intense action, and interpersonal backstabbing that’s the “Game of Thrones” franchise’s signature. On the political side, there’s a small council meeting where Aegon forcefully rejects the idea of dignity in favor of revenge. On the action side,...

HBO is rolling out some beauteous dragon footage and a potty-mouthed Aegon in the season 2 trailer for House of the Dragon, which returns June 16.
The drama based on on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” is setting up an epic war between the Targaryens and the Hightowers following the Season 1 finale, which saw tragedy befall the former (R.I.P Prince Lucerys Velaryon) at the hands of the latter (Prince Aemond Targaryen). The series was largely able to continue filming last summer during the strikes as it has a largely British cast under Equity contracts rather than SAG-AFTRA ones.

Stepping into Westeros, the fictional fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin, is something that some can only dream of. But for actor Abubakar Salim, who will play Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon’s upcoming second season, this dream is already becoming a reality. Season 2 is set to introduce several new characters as the Targaryen civil war escalates beyond King’s Landing and Dragonstone, and among those is Salim’s Alyn, a character with deep ties to the Velaryons and old Valyria, and whose future has the potential to extend beyond the borders of Westeros.
Sitting down with Den of Geek at SXSW to discuss his career, Salim spoke about what it’s been like to step into this fantasy world and what he loves about the universe that Martin has created. “Oh man, I’m terrified! I’m really pumped for it,” Salim says. “I’ve...

After the catastrophic fan reaction to the final season of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," the spin-off prequel "House of the Dragon" didn't exactly seem like a sure thing. But somehow, through the magic of great casting, a stellar story, and a whole bunch of dragons, the folks at HBO managed to get people obsessed with the world of Westeros once more, making "House of the Dragon" a bonafide hit.
"House of the Dragon" follows the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between factions of the ruling Targaryen family that divides not just the clan but threatens to throw the entirety of the Seven Kingdoms into a bitter and bloody war. The two factions, the Blacks and the Greens, each follow the person that they believe should have succeeded King Viserys I to the throne. Exclusive: The upcoming documentary Fighting Spirit: A Combat Chaplains Journey has received the rare honor of a screening at the Vatican.
The film written and directed by Rich Hull and Justin D. Roberts – a former combat chaplain himself – is produced by Paulist Productions and the U.S. Army Chaplains Corps, marking the first ever co-production between Hollywood and the chaplains corps. Built around the story of Emil Kapaun, a combat chaplain who died as a prisoner of war in North Korea in 1953, the documentary examines the ultimate sacrifice made by hundreds of U.S. military combat chaplains.

Emma D’Arcy | Ollie Upton/HBO George R.R. Martin says ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 is ‘still shooting’ amid Hollywood strikes
Hollywood’s ongoing strikes have put a damper on many productions. Yet, Martin disclosed that work on House of the Dragon has not stopped. Instead, production for the second season of HBO’s hit series is still in full swing.

Manchester Orchestra and Jimmy Eat World are gearing up to tour together this summer. Ahead of those shows, the bands have gotten to know each other by covering a song from the other group’s catalogs.
Andy Hull and company took on “Table for Glasses,” the opening track to Jimmy Eat World’s 1999 LP Clarity. The singer’s gentle voice works well for the slow-building song, and the cover’s insular production makes Manchester Orchestra’s version feel more immediate than the emo original.
“It was an absolute honor to trade covers with one of our favorite bands,” Hull said in a statement. “We approached our cover with admiration for the original and had a blast exploring all of its spacious corners.”
Meanwhile, Jimmy Eat World performed Manchester Orchestra’s “Telepath,” a cut from their 2021 album The Million Masks of God. While the original track features folksy acoustic guitar, Jimmy Eat World...

Star Wars Celebration is off to an eventful start this week, with fans clamoring over the news of several new projects from Lucasfilm, including a film about the earliest days of the Jedi. With so many announcements ringing in our ears, it's easy to forget about some of the projects that are already in progress. A show we shouldn't eschew, however, is "Andor," which was one of the best TV shows of last year, and the /Film team was on the ground in London for the panel celebrating the show's first season and teasing the next.
The "Andor" panel included series creator Tony Gilroy and star Diego Luna, both of whom pulled double duty as executive producers on the show. Gilroy, Luna, and production designer Luke Hull shared several exciting stories about how the stylish, soulful, and surprisingly political show came to be, including some about filming in Scotland for...

Manchester Orchestra are back with “The Way,” another song from their upcoming album, The Valley of Vision. Listen to the single below.
“I think I’m losing my mind,” lead singer Andy Hull admits in “The Way.” Like the rest of the album, the song strays from Manchester Orchestra’s tried-and-true heavy guitar rock in favor of piano, but Hull’s lyricism remains as dark as ever. “Trying to watch my obstacles/ See how fully I’ve been broke/ Let me start again,” he sings. Listen to the track below.
The Valley of Vision begins streaming this Friday, March 10th, while physical copies of the album go up for sale on April 7th. Also coming this week is the premiere of a virtual reality film of the same name that Manchester Orchestra made with director Isaac Deitz. Shot across the Rocky Mountains, Wyoming, and the band’s home state of Georgia,...

Many have tried to define Bette Davis, but few have succeeded. Nobody stormed into Hollywood and changed it forever as she did. She took great delight in playing tough, complicated women, the kind of women who loved men, like most female characters in early Hollywood. And although these were women who loved men, they didn't need them to survive. Davis was exceptionally confident and was never afraid to speak the truth. Whether it was a bad script or a director she didn't like, Bette Davis made sure they knew they weren't up to her talents.
Davis brought incredible honesty to her roles, making the characters she played seem like real human beings. That's all the more impressive, considering that many female parts at the time were two-dimensional. She earned an incredible 11 Oscar nominations throughout her career, though somehow, she only won two.

Chicago – Robert Marvin “Bobby” Hull needs no introduction in the City of Chicago, as his career as a Chicago Blackhawks hockey player was as legendary and influential as Babe Ruth was to baseball. The “Golden Jet,” which was his nickname, and the Jet recently passed away at age 84 on January 30th, 2023.
His story began in a small town in Ontario, Canada, where he played Junior “B” hockey for the Woodstock Warriors, as a youngster in the 1950s. In 1957, the Chicago Blackhawks took a chance on the then 18 year old Hull, and drafted him into the NHL. Four years later, the “Hawks” won their first Stanley Cup in 28 years, with a team led by Hull – who scored 50 goals that year – Stan Mikita, Pierre Pilote and goalie Glenn Hall.

The Golden Jet has died.
Hockey icon Bobby Hull was 84.
Known internationally for his Hall of Fame NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks, Hull was also a star for the Winnipeg Jets of the upstart World Hockey Association — famously signing a million-dollar contract at Portage & Main in 1972.
Winnipegger Jordy Douglas, who knew Hull well and played with him briefly during his stint with the Hartford Whalers, told 680 Cjob that Hull’s defection to the Wha — which was due to a contract dispute with the Blackhawks — left an indelible mark on the game.
“He just meant so much to so many of us that grew up here in Winnipeg and Manitoba watching the Wha,” Douglas said.
“We can all debate the character of the man, but what he did in 1972, along with a number of other ex-nhl players, to just make that step, that leap of faith into the Wha, it...

Bobby Hull, the NHL Hall of Famer who was the first to score more than 50 goals in a single season and is considered among the league’s all-time best left-wingers, died Monday, the NHL Alumni Association said. He was 84.
The Chicago Blackhawks — the Original Six team for which he played 15 seasons from 1957-72 — cited Hull’s “historic impact” on the club, tweeting, “The Golden Jet helped the Blackhawks win the 1961 Stanley Cup and delivered countless memories for our fans, whom he adored. Generations of Chicagoans were dazzled by Bobby’s shooting prowess, skating skill and overall team leadership.”

How does one go about creating one of the best, most intense, and formally daring stories in all of "Star Wars?" Well, you go out, get the most talented artists, and put them in charge of various levels of production. Sounds simple enough, right? Having a filmmaker of the caliber of Tony Gilroy spearhead "Andor" already put this prequel series on solid ground, but his decision to collaborate with the best in the business has clearly been paying dividends throughout the first several episodes of the season. But while Gilroy's vision has received all its deserved praise, we'd be remiss not to look deeper and show some appreciation for the below-the-line contributions that have played invaluable roles in turning "Andor" into the acclaimed addition to the franchise that it is (you can read /Film's review here).

When you look back at what passed for kid’s TV in the UK back in the day, it’s a wonder we aren’t all in therapy. Oh sure, the 80s and 90s might have looked all innocent with its Art Attack and Pingu, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find some frankly harrowing children’s television output, quite literally the stuff of nightmares.
If you’re feeling brave, let’s take a quick nostalgia trip and revisit some of Britain’s most terrifying kids’ TV moments:
The Demon Headmaster
Even the theme tune to this BBC children’s TV classic was scary, with its ominous beat and whispering voices, but the reason The Demon Headmaster shook 90s kids to the core lies in Terrence Hardiman’s truly sinister performance as the headmaster himself. The deep menace to his voice was only intensified by his billowing black...
