AMC continues to mine “The Walking Dead” to death. It has been nearly 13 years since the original series first aired, and yet none of its three spin-offs — soon to be four, plus an additional two in the works — have recaptured the magic of those early Rick Grimes-led seasons. After “The Last of Us” revived the prestige zombie genre with impressive quality and creativity earlier this year, AMC’s insistence on franchising continues to dilute the zombie drama du jour.
The latest spin-off, created and written by “The Walking Dead” producing veteran Eli Jorné, is not likely to convert any new fans. For viewers still slugging through the eighth season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” there are enough horror thrills in the six-episode season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” to keep you watching and even raise an eyebrow, particularly if you’re already invested in the rich dynamic between...

Are you ready to experience the apocalypse from New York City?
AMC went public with the official trailer on Thursday for the new spinoff, and it looks like a nice change of pace.
The teaser trailer that premiered earlier this month hinted at the fraught relationship between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Maggie is in New York on a mission to save her son, and it's sure to be a dramatic experience.
The trailer teases the people they'll encounter, and let's just say the new spinoff is making full use of the new setting.
"Dead City follows Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland," the logline teases.
"The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror."

The hatred between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) runs deep.
That much we learned throughout their arc on The Walking Dead.
After making peace with one another at the end of The Walking Dead Season 11, it seems the pair are more at odds than ever, a couple of years on from their parting of ways.
Dead City follows Maggie and Negan traveling into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland.
The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.
Maggie's journey to New York finds her searching for her son, Hershel, but the status of her relationship with Negan remains up in the air.
It's hard to imagine them ever being true friends, but it wouldn't be surprising if they joined forces for this mission to save Hershel.

Maggie and Negan's story continues on The Walking Dead: Dead City and the series will get an earlier launch at Tribeca Festival.
The Knocturnal reports that the first episode will launch this summer ahead of its launch on AMC at an event attended by the cast and creatives.
Twd: Dead City promises a very different sandbox for the characters.
The series has mostly stayed away from the big cities, but Maggie and Negan will be out of their element as they make their way to New York City.
There has been a lot of skepticism about how much story is left to tell for Maggie and Negan.
They hated each other after Negan's actions on The Walking Dead, but they grew to tolerate one another.

The end is only the beginning when it comes to AMC’s Walking Dead universe. Although its flagship zombie series came to an end in 2022 after 11 seasons, there’s more walker drama to be had in 2023. Beyond a new season of Fear the Walking Dead and a potential renewal for the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead, AMC has lined up three more spinoff shows starring the franchise’s most popular characters. Yes, that means you haven’t seen the last of Rick, Michonne, Maggie, Negan, or Daryl.
Here’s a breakdown of the new Walking Dead series launching in 2023:
Maggie and Negan in Dead City
The Walking Dead‘s most unlikely duo are getting their own six-episode spinoff but it isn’t another zombie-filled rampage through Virginia. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are going on a road trip to the Big Apple for the appropriately named Dead City.
