NBC News is launching a rebranded evening newsletter today, replacing its long-running First Read with a format that integrates broadcast and digital reporting on the campaign trail and in Washington, D.C.
The network’s team of political reporters will all contribute to a single, centralized product, with a wider focus on news and analysis from across the country.
The newsletter, From The Politics Desk, will appear each evening and will feature three sections: News of the day, analysis from the author and “must read” links throughout the day. It will feature analysis from a rotating group of correspondents and anchors, with Kristen Welker, Steve Kornacki, Chuck Todd, Jon Allen and Mark Murray serving as regular authors. Contributors will include Carol Lee, Sahil Kapur and others.

Sometimes it feels as though 2020 has been a black hole for television. Quality programming will be released and briefly celebrated before being swallowed whole by a gaping maw of indifference, fueled primarily by outrage and fatigue and forgetting to change out of your pajamas before working from home for the 244th consecutive day. Hulu’s “Pen15” released the first half of an impeccable second season less than two months ago, but I regularly forget about it because far too much of my mental energy is regularly absorbed by deciding whether I’ll be more productive working from my bed or working from my couch. FX’s “Fargo” is in the midst of airing a solid fourth season, a fact that refuses to find purchase in my brain because of all of last week’s sleepless nights spent agonizing over the color of Steve Kornacki’s pants.

MSNBC led the charge with hosts Steve Kornacki, Chris Matthews and Chris Hayes all dedicating segments on their respective programs to analyzing the controversy surrounding director Ava DuVernay‘s film. In honor of last night Game of Thrones finale, TV Guide lists 16 important TV moments that happened on a toilet. (Spoiler warning, the reason why Game of Thrones is on the list is explained.)
There was a special guest star in this week’s Orphan Black. Midwife Alexis was played by Kathryn Alexandre, who also functions as Tatiana Maslany‘s double. Series co-creator John Fawcett talked with EW and said that wasn’t the first role they considered for Alexandre. “Back at the beginning of the Season 1 asked her to come in and read for Gracie and then we kind of realized that part was just a little too big to cast Kathryn because there was interaction between Gracie and Helena and that was just going to turn into a mess if we cast her. So we were looking for a smaller part that we could give her to get her on camera.

NBC finally made it official that Jimmy Fallon will become host of The Tonight Show in 2014, settling weeks of rumor saying this was about to happen. Now there's the question of the new Late Night host.
The Walking Dead has promoted three cast members to regulars — Chad L. Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emmily Kinney (that's Tyreese, Sasha and Beth)
Syfy has ordered a new competition series, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Exit is based on a Japanese show and follows four teams trying to make it out of a series of four rooms, facing a variety of puzzles.
I may love watching Mad Men but covering it in the listings is a pain thanks to generic episode teasers like (I kid you not) "Don launches a new campaign," "Peggy ponders taking a trip" or "Pete encounters an interesting stranger.

As the news media, particularly CNN, completely lost all sense of perspective about the Carnival Triumph's trip through the bowels of mild discomfort, the hosts of McNbc's The Cycle found it, one-upping each other with travel horror stories that included S.E. Then, Touré went there, pointing out that sleeping on the shuffleboard court, waiting in line for food and pooping in bags isn't exactly a nightmare cruise.
