When it comes to comic cats I've always been a Garfield kind of guy. Unfortunately, the Garfield movies sucked ass. The other comic strip cat is Heathcliff, he was never really that interesting to me but he's going to get his own big screen adaptation. Like all movies based on stuff like this, the plan is to do a live-action/CG animated hybrid film.
The rights to the comic were acquired by the family-based production outfit Waterman Entertainment. Rights holder, Peter Gallagher had this to say in a statement,
Their track record is impeccable. 'Casper', 'Stuart Little' and 'Alvin' are examples of incorporating elements that past audiences loved and adding a contemporary flair that makes these properties endure with a whole new generation. That is exactly what I was looking to achieve with 'Heathcliff'. We want our existing fans to identify with the characters they know while introducing him to an entirely new audience.

Family-based production company Waterman Entertainment has secured the rights to Heathcliff, one of the most iconic comic-strip cats (of course, he’s got to compete with Garfield for the title of the top comic-strip cat, but that battle is for another day). Cooper Waterman, head of development, made the deal directly with the rights holder, Peter Gallagher. “Their track record is impeccable. ‘Casper,’ ‘Stuart Little’ and ‘Alvin’ are examples of incorporating elements that past audiences loved and adding a contemporary flair that makes these properties endure with a whole new generation. If Garfield can spawn two feature length films, then why not Heathcliff? That's what Waterman Entertainment is thinking as the production company plans a Heathcliff movie starring the iconic comic strip character. Cooper Waterman, the company's Head of Development made the deal directly with rights holder, Peter Gallagher (the cartoonist, not the dapper actor currently starring on Covert Affairs). "Their track record is impreccable. Casper, Stuart Little and Alvin are examples of incorporating elements that past audiences loved and adding a contemporary flair that makes these properties endure with a while new generation. That is exactly what I was looking to achieve with Heathcliff. We want out existing fans to identify with the characters they know while...

Your childhood continues to be pillaged. Waterman Entertainment, the company currently working on new The Brave Little Toaster and Mr. Ed features, has announced that they’ve snapped up the rights to Heathcliff (aka Heathcliff and The Catillac Cats, if you’re cool like that). Well, fine. In a press release issued today, Waterman reveals that they have picked up the feature rights to chronicle the “mischievous” orange cat and his hijinks for some family-friendly material (crap, that actually sounds kind of sweet). The company’s Head of Development, Cooper Waterman, said about the deal, “When working in concert with the creators and rights holders, you are able to tap their wealth of knowledge on the character and ensure the storylines remain true to the brand and their global fan base. This will allow us to confidently present Heathcliff to a new generation and excite fans with new stories and plots.” Oh...

Family-based production outfit Waterman Entertainment has secured the feature rights to the iconic comic strip character Heathcliff, it was announced today by the company.s Head of Development, Cooper Waterman. The acquisition comes on the heels of the company making similar feature film deals with rights holders of the iconic family brands including The Brave Little Toaster and Mr. Ed. As is the case with those titles, Heathcliff will be reimagined as a CGI/live action film with contemporary storylines, while preserving the original essence that the respective right.s holders created for each of the characters.
George Gately created the comic strip in 1973. Heathcliff was born on the wrong side of the tracks in the bad part of town. When both his parents were locked up by the law, little Heathcliff was left to fend for himself. He grew up quick and he grew up mean, until one day...

Talking horse is back! This time, thanks to the guys from Waterman Entertainment, who have some serious plans with the reboot of the classic 1960s TV series comedy Mr. Ed. It looks that now all we need is one man and one horse, and live-action/CGI will do the rest of the job.
Now, you might be asking yourself – do I really want to now more about the whole thing? I’m not so enthusiastic about the whole thing either, but it looks the property fits seamlessly into the Waterman Entertainment business model, which is to identify existing and successful family brands that can be developed into live action/CGI feature film properties.
Anyway, get prepared for a real horse with a CG-animated mouth, because, hey, this horse likes to chat! Mr. Ed will join Waterman’s growing family-friendly brands that have franchise potential and ancillary viability on platforms including television,...
