Unreal as it may be to read, the Spike Lee-helmed "Oldboy" remake is definitely moving forward. Starring Josh Brolin as the titular old boy, the movie was supposed to start shooting in March -- now, it’ll be tackled sometime later in 2012.
With Brolin’s press commitments for "Men in Black 3" keeping him busy through the summer, Variety reports, they’ll need a little more time to finalize the cast and get everything lined up. As the original came out almost a decade ago, the studio doesn’t have to worry about timeliness, so why not give the project the care it deserves?
More interesting, though, is speculation over the biggest hang-up: the lack of a villain. Colin Firth and Clive Owen were reportedly offered the role as the megalomaniac millionaire who sets up and breaks down Oldboy’s life (I know that’s not his name,...

Tim Burton is at it again, planning to direct a new take on an old classic -- "Pinocchio," in this case -- and this time he wants Robert Downey Jr. to help him. Meanwhile, James Franco is ready to play "The Game," "Oldboy" is in search of a villain and the first image from "Lovelace" has hit the web.
Today is January 9, and you're tuning into today's casting call.
Tim Burton Wants Robert Downey Jr. For "Pinocchio"
Tim Burton might have a lot on his plate between "Dark Shadows" and "Frankenweenie," but that's not to say he's not ready to look forward towards his future projects. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project that's most on his radar is an upcoming remake/sequel of "Pinocchio" written by "Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller. It apparently follows the puppeteer Geppetto on his quest to find his missing marionette. THR is reporting that...

One foreign movie that I am particularly interested to see that’s getting a stateside remake is Oldboy. The film originally came from Park Chan-Wook’s South Korean thriller, and is about a man who is imprisoned in a hotel for 15 years for unknown reasons, and upon his release he sets out to find the very people who were involved. We already known Josh Brolin is signed on to play as the man who is kidnapped, but there is no word on who will play as the villain. But a report from Variety says that inability to cast, plus Brolin’s press commitments to Mib 3, has forced production of Oldboy to be pushed back to May of this year.
Colin Firth was the biggest name to be attached to play as the villain, but he passed on the role, which was then offered to Clive Owen. But according to a...
