- Martin Nodell was born on November 15, 1915 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a writer, known for Cartoon Superheroes Abridged (2015), Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008) and The Overstreet World of Comic Books (1993). He was married to Carrie. He died on December 9, 2006 in Muskego, Wisconsin, USA.

- He first came up with the idea for ''Green Lantern'' in January 1940 at the 34th Street subway station in Manhattan. Nodell noticed a trainman waving a lantern along the darkened tracks. He coupled the imagery with elements from Richard Wagner's operatic Ring cycle as well as Chinese folklore and Greek mythology to create the hero.
