Kasey O'Brien is an actor, director, and award-winning filmmaker. She was born in Corvallis, Oregon, growing up in the mountainous Pacific Northwest before falling head-over-heels for New York City on an 8th grade class trip. Still, it took her a while to get there. After many years earning her stripes in Chicago and a couple of stints living abroad, she identifies as a New Yorker proud & true.
A lifelong performer, Kasey has been seen on stage and screen telling an array of stories from the West Coast to the East Coast. She is the writer/director of several short films which have screened at festivals around the world, including Tacoma Film Festival, MINT Film Festival, QFest St. Louis, Out on Film Atlanta, Montreal Independent Film Fest (award winner), Toronto Intl Women Film Festival (award winner), Portland Short Fest (award winner) and Reel Love Festival (award winner).
She's a natural-born director who has spent years diversifying her skillset in film production, including producing, writing, camera operating, and post-production. Kasey's first documentary, which features a senior living with a developmental disability, began production in 2022. Her upcoming projects to watch out for include a sci-fi mockumentary series and a body horror feature film centered on an alternative climate future.
Kasey's passion for gender parity in the film industry led to her involvement in PANO Network, a 501(c)(3) that champions inclusion in Film, TV, and Media. She is a founding member of the Astoria, Queens based theatre cooperative, The Garret Theatre Company. In everything she does, she is guided by curiosity in our human experience.
Education: MFA from The New School, BFA from Roosevelt University, summer intensive at Moscow Art Theatre School, study abroad programs in South Africa and Germany.
