Many of the songs John Lennon wrote for the Beatles were introspective. He wrote about his feelings and relationships, both with his first wife, Cynthia, and Yoko Ono. In 1964, he wrote the song “If I Fell” about an affair. The original lyrics were a bit harsher on the betrayed partner in the song than in the final version.
John Lennon toned down the lyrics of a Beatles song
In 1964, Lennon wrote the ballad “If I Fell.” Lennon admitted it was semi-autobiographical.
“That’s my first attempt at a ballad proper,” he said in the book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview With John Lennon and Yoko Ono by David Sheff. “That was the precursor to ‘In My Life.’ It has the same chord sequences as ‘In My Life’: D and B minor and E minor, those kind of things. The elusive motives behind Mark David Chapman fatally shooting John Lennon are now finally being explained in a boundary-breaking Apple TV+ docuseries.
“John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial” interrogates why Chapman, a photographer from Hawaii, set out to murder Beatle Lennon. Interviews with Chapman’s defense lawyer David Suggs and Dr Naomi Goldstein, the psychiatrist who first assessed Chapman, give new insights into his state of mind at the time of the 1980 killing. A witness to Lennon’s murder, taxi driver Richard Peterson, and Jay Hastings, a doorman at The Dakota who heard Lennon’s last words before he was shot outside of the infamous building, also speculate what compelled Chapman to kill.
Lennon and wife Yoko Ono’s shared confidante Elliot Mintz is further interviewed as the docuseries questions whether Chapman had religious motives or was part of a larger conspiracy to kill celebrities.

In 1994, Yoko Ono gave Paul McCartney demo tapes that would eventually become the 2023 Beatles song “Now and Then.” She helped bring a major piece of Beatles’ history to the world decades after her husband’s death. Several years before she gave McCartney the tapes, Ono also helped preserve more of the Beatles’ history. After Ono learned Beatles road manager Mal Evans’ memoir was slated for destruction, she stepped in to save it.
Beatles’ road manager Mal Evans wrote a book that was nearly destroyed
In 1988, artist Leena Kutti accepted a temporary position at New York publishing house G.P. Putnam’s Sons. She was to go through their storage room and clear it out. This meant throwing away much of the artwork and manuscripts stored there.
While sifting through boxes, Kutti discovered thousands of vintage photographs of The Beatles and a manuscript titled Living the Beatles’ Legend: Or 200 Miles to Go by Malcolm Evans.

In 2006, a pay-per-view séance aimed to contact John Lennon’s ghost. The producers had previously — and unsuccessfully — attempted to make contact with Princess Diana in 2003. This time, they hoped to strike gold with one of the world’s most famous musicians, much to the irritation of those who knew him. While Yoko Ono declined to comment on the special, her longtime spokesperson, Elliot Mintz, railed against it. His opinion fell in line with that of many Beatles fans.
A documentary about John Lennon’s ghost irritated those close to him
In 2006, Paul Sharratt of Starcast Productions planned to bring cameras to various Lennon-related sites in an attempt to make contact with his ghost.
“People say this is disgusting and I accept that criticism,” Sharratt said, per the LA Times. “But we’re making a serious attempt to do something that many, many millions of people around the world think...

John Lennon moved into The Dakota in 1973 and, according to those who have seen his ghost lingering outside, never left. The historic New York City apartment building reportedly has its fair share of ghosts, with Lennon amongst them. Visitors to the building have reported seeing Lennon’s ghost more than most of the building’s other spirits.

John Lennon took a hands-off approach to raising his son Julian, but he threw himself into his second son Sean’s upbringing. Yoko Ono told Lennon he would bear primary responsibility for raising their son, and he wholeheartedly agreed. He took his role as father seriously and was highly concerned about Sean’s health. Lennon didn’t even want people touching his son for the first months of his life.
John Lennon didn’t want anybody touching his son, Sean
Shortly after Sean’s birth in 1975, Lennon called his lawyer, Leon Wildes.
“‘It’s John. I’m a father,'” Wildes recalled him saying, per the book Lennon: The Definitive Biography by Ray Coleman. “He was ecstatic, bouncing around his room as he spoke.”
Lennon was highly protective of his young son.
“In the months following the birth John allowed very few visitors to the Dakota,” Coleman wrote. “He was afraid they might spread germs.

Paul McCartney confirmed what we all knew about The Beatles on a recent episode of his McCartney: A Life in Lyrics podcast: Yoko Ono’s presence during the band’s recording sessions didn’t exactly make for a pleasant work environment.
McCartney dug into the making of Let It Be, The Beatles’ 1970 final album. As he put it, the band members’ relationships were already strained, and those tensions rose thanks to an “inseparable” John and Yoko.
“So things like Yoko being in the middle, literally in the middle of the recording session, was something you had to deal with,” McCartney said. “And the idea was if John wanted this to happen, then it should happen. There’s no reason why not.”
At this point in the podcast, the artist’s cohost, Paul Muldoon, replied, “Well, except that there is a reason why not. You’re there to do some work,...

John Lennon met his lifelong muse when he met Yoko Ono. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney dissolved as his relationship with Yoko deepened. Lennon and Ono developed into a controversial couple since they never compromised their art. That included their naked pose on the Two Virgins album cover that John’s aunt Mimi hated because she said the couple were too ugly naked.

Lennon jumped fully into Ono’s avant-garde art world when their relationship started. The Beatles’ founder started recording sound experiments, tape loops, and comedy bits on his own time. Sometimes, such as “Revolution 9,” John’s artistic outlets overlapped, but he mostly kept them separate.

Yoko Ono fell in love with John Lennon, but she once said that Ringo Starr was the most influential member of the Beatles. In the years since she met Lennon, Ono has gotten to know Starr well. She asserted her belief that his influence had little to do with the music he created in the Beatles or his solo career. Instead, she pointed to a quality Starr had that Lennon often preached about.
Yoko Ono said Ringo Starr’s personality made him the most influential Beatle
In 2015, Starr became the final member of The Beatles to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. Ono, who has known Starr since the 1960s, attended the ceremony. She expressed her delight that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was finally honoring Starr’s solo career, telling Rolling Stone it meant “so much to all of us in the Beatle family.

By the end of the 1960s, John Lennon and Yoko Ono wanted to collaborate musically, and Lennon felt The Beatles were getting in the way. He would eventually tell his bandmates he wanted a divorce from them in 1969. He had been thinking about breaking up The Beatles for a while at this point. According to Let It Be director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Lennon resorted to surprising measures to show he was ready to be done with the group.
John Lennon wanted to make it clear he would rather collaborate with Yoko Ono than The Beatles
Lennon had known his Beatles bandmates for years, but he felt a deeper connection with Ono. He wanted to continue to develop his music career with her, not necessarily with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. According to Lindsay-Hogg, Lennon had an eyebrow-raising way of conveying this. He played an audio tape of him and Ono having sex.

John Lennon became an inspirational artist with The Beatles. That doesn’t mean he didn’t get starstruck by other musicians sometimes. He placed his wife, Yoko Ono, on a pedestal, saying she was as important as Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan. Speaking of Dylan, he once said John and him shared a non-musical similarity — their childhood homes.

In 1973, John Lennon separated from Yoko Ono and began a relationship with the couple’s assistant, May Pang. Ono was aware of this; according to Pang, Ono got them together in the first place. After a whirlwind 18-month affair, Lennon returned to his wife, however. While he wrote off the affair and the events surrounding it as temporary confusion, Pang said she continued to see him in the years after their relationship ended.

Before John Lennon and Yoko Ono began a relationship, they were both married to other people and had children. After their respective divorces, their relationships with their children grew strained, though Ono’s was more than Lennon’s. She fell out of contact with her daughter. When The Beatles broke up, George Harrison and John Lennon were not happy with former bandmate Paul McCartney. Lennon disparaged his solo music and wrote pointed lyrics about McCartney. Harrison said that he would never work with him in a band again. They talked trash about him privately too, but they made it clear that the people they were talking to shouldn’t join in.

While each member of The Beatles got married, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were the power couple of the group. The pair appeared to be attached to the hip, with Ono being present at many of the band’s recording sessions. Lennon often expressed his love for Ono in his music and dedicated several Beatles songs to her.
Here are 5 Beatles songs John Lennon wrote about Yoko Ono 1. ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ John Lennon and Yoko Ono | Bettmann / Contributor
“I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” is a track from Abbey Road. The nearly eight-minute-long song features John Lennon expressing his love for Yoko Ono, with the repeated “I Want You/ I Want You So Bad” lyrics that make up most of the song. While the lyrics are simple, the song is elevated by the excellent guitar-playing from Lennon. It’s one of the heavier performances from his career with The Beatles.

John Lennon wasn’t the biggest fan of The Beatles. He said his life felt like a trap because of the band, and the public notoriety became a major nuisance when Yoko Ono entered his life. The English media — and many Fab Four fans — didn’t warm up to Ono, and it left a sour taste in his mouth. He and Ono moved to New York after The Beatles broke up. John regretted not making a decision that could “have made a million pounds” for the songwriter.

Rihanna’s makeup artist Priscilla Ono is dishing on the inspiration behind the singer’s 2023 Super Bowl glam and the moments leading up to her history-making performance.
In an interview with People magazine, published online Thursday, the makeup pro said the planning for the look “begins with the stage and the production.” Ono added, “We consider the moment, the lighting and the set, as a jumping-off point to determine what looks will elevate and celebrate her in that environment.”
The Grammy-winning artist and her baby bump, which was a surprise for viewers, took the stage glowing in an all-red outfit on Sunday. One notable feature was her fiery red lips, which Ono said the look was centered around.
“When we did rehearsal and tested the red lip for the first time on the big screen, there was no question after that,” she explained. “It popped so beautifully against her skin...

Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon have authorized “Daytime Revolution,” a documentary about the week John Lennon and Ono co-hosted “The Mike Douglas Show” in early 1972, a few months after the release of their single “Happy Christmas (War Is Over).”
The Shout! Studios, Creative Differences, and CBS Media Ventures feature docu uses archival footage from each of the five 70-minute shows as well as interviews with six surviving guests, including Ralph Nader, to tell the behind-the-scenes story of the unprecedented week. While Ono and her son did not participate on camera, the duo approved and creatively consulted on the project. Directed by Erik Nelson, the 108-minute docu recently wrapped production and is looking for a distributor as Ono prepares to celebrate her 90th birthday Feb. 18.
“It’s become a cliche that Woodstock was the defining moment of the counterculture,” Nelson says, but “when I watched these broadcasts in their entirety, I realized that,...

Some were betting on whether the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles will take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy on Sunday (spoiler alert: the Chiefs won) — but for beauty, fashion and music lovers, the money was on what Rihanna would sing and wear today at the Super Bowl.
The 34-year-old Barbados-born singer wore an all-red look styled by Jahleel Weaver, including a custom Loewe jumpsuit over a glossy bustier and bodysuit, an Alaïa puffer cape, gloves and MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon sneakers (also available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and SSense).
As expected, Rihanna wore products from her Fenty Skin and Beauty brands, including the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation, the Invisimatte Instant Setting...

December 8, 1980, singer/songwriter John Lennon, formerly of the 'Beatles', was shot and fatally wounded in the archway of 'The Dakota', his residence in New York City:
"...his killer planned the murder over several months and waited for Lennon at The Dakota on the morning of December 8. Early in the evening, the killer met Lennon, who signed his copy of the album 'Double Fantasy' and subsequently left for a recording session at the 'Record Plant'. Later that night, Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, returned to The Dakota. As Lennon and Ono approached the entrance of the building, the killer fired five hollow-point bullets from a .38 special revolver, four of which hit Lennon in the back. Lennon was rushed to 'Roosevelt Hospital' in a police car where he was pronounced dead on arrival..."

On December 8, 1980 — just hours before he was murdered by a deranged fan near the entranceway to his New York apartment building — John Lennon welcomed photographer Annie Leibowitz into the home so she could take his photo for the cover of Rolling Stone. “The session took place in a bright, sunny room overlooking the park,” Yoko Ono recalled in 2004. “We were feeling comfortable because it was Annie, whom we respected and trusted, so John seemed not to have any problem taking off his clothes.”

May Fung Lee Pang will be 72 in October, but was barely out of her teens when she boldly entered Apple’s New York offices, lied about being able to type, and secured a job at the Beatles’ multimedia company. She would soon become famous for a much more intimate tie to the group than that, as her very public 18-month affair with John Lennon in the mid-’70s is still a subject of great fascination to his fans, 50 years later.
