Director Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Mayhem), screenwriter Dennis Paoli – who worked on the screenplays for the Stuart Gordon-directed H.P. Lovecraft adaptations Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak, Dagon, and Masters of Horror: Dreams in the Witch-House – and producer Barbara Crampton (who had acting roles in Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Castle Freak) recently teamed up to make a new Lovecraft adaptation called Suitable Flesh (read our review Here) in tribute to Gordon. The movie was given a theatrical and VOD release back in October and will be reaching the Shudder streaming service in a couple weeks… but if you want to own a physical copy, you’ll be glad to know that Suitable Flesh is now available on Blu-ray and DVD! Copies can be purchased at This Link.

“Suitable Flesh” bears a parting dedication to Stuart Gordon, who passed away in 2020 and is certainly missed, especially after watching this campy concoction, which revisits his beloved H.P. Lovecraft territory minus the late screen genre specialist’s knack for welding grotesque horror content to a black comedy tone.
There are some yuks (and yucks) to be had in his frequent writing collaborator Dennis Paoli’s very loose, gender-reversed riff on the cult fantasist’s lesser-regarded 1933 short story “The Thing on the Doorstep.” But director Joe Lynch haplessly plays much of this supernatural tale as an erotic thriller, the uncertainty of satirical intent leaving his actors looking silly. Releasing to limited theaters and streaming platforms on Oct. 27, it’s a movie best watched after a few libations, which might make more of the laughs play as deliberate.

When “Re-Animator” director Stuart Gordon died in 2020, he left behind a blood-soaked legacy that includes a handful of giddily exploitative horror classics and a legion of genre filmmakers who grew up in the shadow of his low-budget Lovecraft adaptations.
In that light, it would be hard to imagine a more fitting tribute to Gordon’s work than a goofy-smart and gore-happy wad of immaculate trash about an ancient Entity that inhabits the body of an undersexed psychiatrist played by Heather Graham. Lucky for us, Gordon ensured that we wouldn’t have to; based on the Lovecraft story “The Thing on the Doorstep” and written by Gordon’s longtime collaborator Dennis Paoli, “Suitable Flesh” is one of the last projects the late schlockmeister was developing before his death. And director Joe Lynch’s take on the material is every bit as loving and heretical towards Gordon’s memory as you would expect from a true devotee.

What caused the sudden collapse of Silicon Valley Bank? You may think the disastrous bank run that led to the implosion of Sbv was spurred by the effects of deregulation, rising interest rates, and panic among customers—and actual economists would agree. But over at Fox News the demise of the country’s 16th largest bank was actually the fault of their favorite boogeyman: Diversity.
On Monday night, Fox host Tucker Carlson blamed the death of Svb, a California bank that catered to tech startups, on “diversity, equity, and inclusion...

Joe Begos unleashes a new holiday horror classic with his gleefully gratuitous robot Santa rampage, Christmas Bloody Christmas.
Horror is most commonly associated with Halloween, but Christmas is right behind the spooky season when it comes to holiday-based horror movies. Christmas horror movies take plenty of different directions from creative home invasions to Satanic elves. However, the killer Santa trope is by far the most common device that’s turned to by these movies. There’s something inherently upsetting about the corruption of a comforting figure like Santa, but the trope’s overexposure has made it increasingly difficult to feel fresh.
Joe Begos is an exceptional horror filmmaker who’s previously eschewed genre tropes with Vfw and Bliss. His latest movie, Christmas Bloody Christmas, finally finds a unique angle on the killer Santa stereotype by turning the seasonal threat into a robotic Terminator-like predator. It’s Begos’ strongest film, but...

Following up his writing and directing debut, What Can Be Broken Should Be Broken, Rostislav Vaynshtok’s second short film, Praise For My Devourer, will have its world premiere on August 20th at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival as part of their Homegrown Fresh Squeezed Horror segment. As a tease of the things that go bump in the night in this short film, we have an exclusive image gallery, the poster reveal, and a look at the recently released trailer.
Drawing inspiration from Suspiria, Stranger Things, and The Babadook, Vaynshtok’s take on child centered horror is described as "a short and sweet slice of bedtime terror." The film was scored entirely by Vaynshtok as his musical alias "Slavvy." Rostislav will also perform a DJ set as his musical alter ego Slavvy at Popcorn Frights closing party on the rooftop of the Betsy Hotel, featuring unreleased music and classic horror favorites.

Cineploit records have announced their two latest releases for 2020; Lawa “The Parallax View“ (Cine 23) and Pan/Scan “Kosmonauter” (Cine 24).
It’s particularly good to have Lawa back. On “The Parallax View” (not related to the 1970s conspiracy movie classic), they take a ride through French and Italian cinema score of the 70s and 80s from the works of Michel Colombier, Michel Legrand and Jacques Revaux to Alessandro Alessandroni, Daniele Patucchi, Nico Catanese, G & M de Angelis and the master of them all, Ennio Morricone. There are also some original compositions and concepts from Lawa which fit seamlessly into the impressive playlist. Once again they are honouring the world of film music in their idiosyncratic, very personal way. Sufjan Stevens and his long-time collaborator/stepfather, Lowell Brams, unveiled a new song, “The Unlimited,” from their upcoming New Age-inspired album, Aporia, out March 27th via their label Asthmatic Kitty.
“The Unlimited” finds Stevens and Brams crafting an enthralling soundscape that keeps a serene synth at its core while still venturing into murkier, more ominous spaces. With the introduction of thumping drums halfway through, the song builds steadily to a euphoric peak before tapering into a peaceful echo.

Joe Begos has cited Gaspar Noé as a celluloid role model. But he may have outdone the Gallic sensationalist with his third feature, which actually does the piling-druggy-excess-upon-excess thing better than Noé’s own psychotropic nightmares “Enter the Void” and “Climax.” An adventuresome step up from Begos’ somewhat more conventional prior horror outings, “Bliss” is as much a movie about addiction and mental illness as it is about vampirism — in fact, it’s held out as a possibility here that the film’s belligerently self-destructive L.A. artist heroine may simply be hallucinating her periodic bloodbaths.
Whether classified as straight-up genre piece or substance-abuse drama in disguise, this is a dive into psychedelic hedonism that succeeds in constantly topping itself, rather than succumbing to shock-value fatigue like the aforementioned Noé joints. It is certainly not for everyone, but those eager for a walk on the wild side will find those expectations fully sated.

It’s a holiday weekend, and President Donald Trump undoubtedly has a light schedule. That leaves plenty of time for tweeting, and the Commander-in-Tweet is off to an early start.
So far, the President has rounded up a few of the usual suspects for his broadsides: the Mueller investigation and their apparent mishandling of some evidence; and the Democrat opposition, which apparently are fiddling while the government burns, at least according to Trump.
We’ll update as more tweets become available. The story so far:
“It turns out to be true now, that the Department of Justice and the FBI, under President Obama, rigged the investigation for Hillary and really turned the screws on Trump, and now it looks like in a corrupt & illegal way. The facts are out now. Whole Hoax exposed. @JesseBWatters
