Bowen Yang realized that he couldn’t defy gravity — or sleep deprivation — when filming “Wicked.”
The “SNL” star told Vanity Fair that he found it “mentally fraying” to fly back and forth between the “Wicked” production in London and his weekly sketch series in New York City. Even “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels seemingly warned Yang against spreading himself too thin.
“This is when Lorne Michaels comes in,” Yang said. “Whatever you think about the situation, however you think it’s unique to you, however you think you might be the exception to the rule, Lorne is here to be like, ‘Actually, it might not be so good on the body for you to fly back and forth between New York and London to go shoot a movie.'”
Yang admitted that he was referencing “Wicked” as the most recent example of balancing both his TV and film obligations.

A group of misfits who solve traffic crimes and frauds—that’s the premise of Disney+’s new Korean drama Crash. I started watching the show with little expectations, but boy did it surprise me. Backed by an amazing ensemble cast, Crash goes from the Tci members catching small-time criminals to solving planned murders real quick. Here’s a quick recap of the events that unfolded in the first episode.

Tci’s star is undoubtedly Min-So-Hee, who is an outstanding close combat fighter and an even better driver. Her expertise behind the wheel is something that makes this department thrive. The other members are Woo Dong-Ki and Eo Hyun-Kyung, who are mostly just there,...

“Spa Night” and “Fire Island” filmmaker Andrew Ahn is set to direct Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang in a new take on “The Wedding Banquet” that has been described as a “reimagination” of Ang Lee’s beloved 1993 film.

The film stars Winston Chao as a gay Taiwanese man living in America who agrees to a marriage of convenience with a female friend, only to find his life complicated when his overbearing parents travel to America to plan his wedding banquet. Here comes another time-traveling fantasy, but with a twist. As the kids on Bandstand used to say to Dick Clark, “It’s a gotta’ good beat. You can dance to it”. Maybe you could even do the twist. That’s because the force to send this story back through the decades isn’t a big machine, like the one H.G. Welles conjured or even the beloved DeLorean that Doc Brown modified. Nor is it hypnosis ala’ Somewhere In Time, though the brain is involved along with…the ears. You see the gimmick here is music, specifically certain pop tunes that propel a twenty-something woman into the past. And just what is she doing six or seven years ago? Making “sure bet” investments perhaps? No, she’s trying to save a “lost love”, so this is really a romantic fantasy with a soundtrack that’s this couple’s take on...

Although not selected for the phenomenal soundtrack for Ned Benson’s follow-up to his similarly themed The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Metric’s “Now or Never Now” nearly sums up the plot of his oft-sublime The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton), a librarian mourning the loss of her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet), is triggered by songs that marked their relationship. An obsessive cataloger (a great quality for a librarian), she has mapped-out the trajectory of their relationships in songs and memorabilia that she accesses in a controlled environment. For the rest of her life there are noise-canceling headphones that she uses to block out songs that send her back into the past.

A familiar sub-genre of time travel-movies has characters going into the past to see a loved one who has died. Writer and director Ned Benson gives that idea a musical twist In The Greatest Hits. Harriet (Lucy Boynton) was in the same car crash that killed her boyfriend, Max (David Corenswet), two years before. Now whenever she hears songs they listened to together, she is carried back to the first time they experienced that music. Weighed down with grief, every night she listens to LPs, labeled “Tested” and “Untested,” searching for a way back to a moment she can alter to save Max’s life. Or, as her potential new romance, David (Justin H. Min), tells her, “So you just sit in this room, go back in time and hang out with your dead boyfriend.”
Yes, she does, and it’s an intriguing premise. Benson deftly combines the time travel,...

Warning: contains spoilers for Slow Horses series one and two.
If Slow Horses aired on BBC One on Sunday nights instead of streaming on Apple TV+, it would be all anybody was talking about. Based on Mick Herron’s series of novels, it stars Oscar winner Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) as the world-weary and straight-talking Jackson Lamb, a former MI5 agent who is now living out his days at the head of Slough House, the office building to which disgraced spies (known as “slow horses”) are exiled to do menial grunt work after messing up big time in the field.
As we saw in series one and two, Slough House is frequently the playground for MI5’s Second Desk Diana Taverner, who likes to get them involved in her dirty off-the-books ops and then blame them when it all inevitably goes wrong. And one of the more recent slow horse arrivals,...

CinemaBlind’s Review – 100%
Slow Horses is back with its much-awaited third season, and I am happy to say that it is even better than what came before. The Gary Oldman dark comedy-drama has to be one of the best TV shows in the entire world, but sadly it is still not getting the attention it deserves.
Based on the third novel of the Slough House book series titled Real Tigers by Mick Herron, the new season starts in Istanbul with Alison Dunn (Katherine Waterston), an MI5 agent, and Sean Donovan (Sope Dirisu), head of security. The relationship between these two sets up the events for the upcoming episodes and while we don’t see the Slow Horses in the opening scene, they get caught up in this new mess pretty soon.

Essentially a tribute to the passing of writer Ahn Eun-mi, “The Promise” is a hybrid movie that moves somewhere between the documentary and the mourning journal.
The Promise is screening at Busan International Film Festival
Nine-year-old Si-woo often cries at night, missing his late mother. In those moments, his father Min Byung-hun embraces him, offering comfort and solace. In an effort for him to get in terms with his wife’s death and also to take care of his child, he first makes him a promise of talking more about her death and even showing him her grave, while he encourages him to write poetry. At the same time, he channels his emotions and particularly his grief by capturing nature through his camera lens.
Thus unfolds the narrative of Min Byung-hun’s movie, which essentially consists of four elements: the son and the father talking and hugging, usually on the former’s bed,...

This article contains spoilers for The Wheel of Time season 2 episode 8.
Even with the defeat of a Forsaken and the reunion of the Two Rivers exiles, it wasn’t exactly a fist-pumping victory for the forces of Light in The Wheel of Time season 2 finale. However, several characters reached major turning points in their story arcs providing plenty of satisfaction for viewers, especially for readers of the Robert Jordan novels who were expecting certain touchstone moments to occur. But for those with lingering questions, a closer analysis is warranted.
Ishamael and Lanfear at Odds
For example, what was the endgame for Ishamael and Lanfear? While the former seems determined to stop the wheel of time from repeating history and reincarnating heroes, the latter seems more interested in bringing back her former lover, Lews Therin, than in serving the Dark Lord’s interests. Ishamael seemed to be playing more of a long game,...

The Wheel of Time's second outing is quickly coming to a close, but there are a lot of questions left unanswered!
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 7 saw Moiraine learn the truth about many things, and also betray someone important in her life.
Anvaere also made a discovery that will change the entire Damodred family's political and class standing forever.
The best part of the episode was something we've been wishing for since the beginning of The Wheel of Time Season 2. We finally got an update on all of the major characters.
With updates from Nynaeve, Egwene, Rand, Perrin, and Mat's storyline, the episode covered a large chunk of information and plot development!
However, even with getting our prayers answered, the episode still did not live up to The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 6. It was slow.

With the emotional impact of everything that Egwene endured in the most recent episode of The Wheel of Time, it would be easy to forget about all of the other myriad of story threads still dangling in season 2 in its final weeks. In fact, with the finale right around the corner, it’s likely that a big confrontation is coming either in Falme or Cairhien… or both!
Because the next episode is called “Daes Dae’mar,” which means “The Game of Houses” in the old tongue, we can wager a guess that political machinations will abound. This could refer to the fact that the Amyrlin has appeared with a large retinue and a mysterious agenda in Cairhien, the city where Lady Damodred and the other nobles hold sway. Could they be meeting about the Seanchan, or is there something else that needs to be negotiated or discussed?...

The Wheel of Time has always been a favorite, and season two has been an improvement, but this episode knocked it out of the park.
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 6 proved to be a tense, jam-packed episode with incredible performances, plot development, and new information.
We can confidently say that Eyes Without Pity is the best episode of the entire series.
At the beginning of the Wheel of Time Season 2, we often complained about the lack of coherency in the storyline and the overall feeling of an incomplete plot.
With this being the third to last episode of the season, we had hoped things would start to pick up, and they certainly did!
So many things happened over the course of this hour-plus episode, but they all made for a brilliant story.
We often praise Kate Fleetwood's portrayal of Liandrin Sedai, and her brief appearances during this hour were wonderful,...

The Wheel Of Time episode 6 is a little bit dull and feels overstretched with the amount of information thrust at us. Already, there are too many characters in the show, and at every turn, there’s a new one joining the mix, making it really hard to keep up. I’m sure readers of the book will not feel the same way, although they might not agree with the pattern of the show or how it’s been woven thus far. But for the uninitiated like myself, there’s way too much going on. Given that it is a fantasy series, we’re already overstimulated with the world-building, the names of places, the types of people, etc. The big problem with the show is the fact that everything feels squeezed in and half-baked. As we’re starting to understand why one thing or the other is coming together, there’s...

The Wheel of Time Season 2 finally picked up the pace and threw all the main players into intense situations.
Perrin's true identity finally got revealed, as did Rand's girlfriend on The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 4.
We finally saw the use of the term Wolfbrother on screen, with Elyas revealing to Perrin that they both are Wolfbrothers.
The fourth episode of the Wheel of Time Season 2 managed to build seamlessly off of the previous outings' setup and improved the overall feel of the new season.
While the premieres felt disjointed and like there wasn't enough time for everything they tried to do, this round felt well-crafted and super intense.
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 3 left us on an intense cliffhanger with Nynaeve, played brilliantly by Zoë Robins, bursting through the final arch, completing the trial.

The Wheel of Time season 2 finds our characters on their separate journeys, discovering their inner strength, special powers, or both! As the Dark One’s followers start to increase hostilities, the politics within the Aes Sedai and of the larger world are also beginning to heat up. Moiraine’s power is diminished, and Rand’s emergence as the Dragon Reborn continues unguided, so all focus is now on the growth of the other Two Rivers refugees… and the invasion from the West.
The next episode is entitled “Daughter of the Night,” in which we’ll learn more about a newly emerged force for evil while we wait anxiously to learn about the aftermath of Nynaeve’s harrowing journey through the Arches. Here’s what you need to know about episode 4 of season 2:

Episode 3 is so good that it’s going to be hard to wait for an entire week to see what’s coming next. The Wheel of Time Season 2 is going really well right now, and there’s been more depth to the characters, a lot more to learn, and some beautiful scenes to gawk at. Nynaeve’s test to become an Aes Sedai is the highlight of the episode, for sure, but so much more happens in it too! What does Rand want from the false dragon? Will Elayne be able to help Egwene in any way? I’m terribly excited to see what’s coming next for all of them. And will Moiraine be able to get back to them in time to help them?
Spoilers Ahead
What Happens In The Episode?
Nynaeve’s great test begins now, and she’s told that there will be only one way out after she’s inside.

After over a year of waiting, The Wheel of Time is back.
The first episodes were all over the place quality-wise, with the story veering off in multiple directions. Some good, some bad
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 1 saw all of our lead characters separated, with the show also becoming disjointed at times.
The series never shied away from showing off its technical prowess, but the premiere episode relied too heavily on fancy camerawork, and too little on the rich plot that The Wheel of Time Season 1 finale left them with.

Normally at the top of these Don’t-Miss Indies round-ups, we like to make a little joke that’s somewhat topical. But if you’ve been paying attention to what’s been going on in Hollywood for the past couple of months, you’ll know that the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are no laughing matter (unless we’re talking about the writers’ signs.) In fact, right at press time not one but two of this months featured titles have been pushed, due to strike-related issues.
