Ping Pong Summer
Director: Michael Tully
Writer(s): Michael Tully
Producers: George M. Rush, Ryan Zacarias, Brooke Bernard, Billy Peterson, Jeff Allard, Michael Gottwald
U.S. Distributor: Gravitas Ventures
Cast: Susan Sarandon, John Hannah, Lea Thompson, Amy Sedaris, Robert Longstreet, Marcello Conte
More 1980s than VH1′s own We Are the ’80s, all that is missing in Michel Tully’s latest (besides the look, sound and feel) is the eventual gloriously beat-up VHS box when this film hits home vid/Blu-ray. If Septien was like an uncomfortable hot dog eating contest, the down-right hilarious Ping Pong Summer is a buffet table delight: plenty of choice for the masses to gain a foothold in a coming-of-ager done right.
Gist: Set in 1985, Ping Pong Summer tells the story of 13-year-old Rad Miracle, a shy white kid who is obsessed with two things: ping pong and hip-hop culture. During his family’s...

Ablations
Director: Arnold de Parscau
Writer: Benoit Delepine
Producers: Jpg Films, Nexus Factory, No Money Productions
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Denis Menochet, Virginie Ledoyen, Philippe Nahon, Yolande Moreau, Julie Delpy, Olivier Gourmet
This is Arnold de Parscau’s feature debut, based on a 2012 short film he directed of the same name. Besides a fantastic cast of Gallic greats, what’s even more exciting is that the screenplay was penned by Benoit Delepine, who has co-directed a number of brilliantly bizarre films with Gustave de Kervern, such as Mammuth and Le Grand Soir. We’re sure this will be equally offbeat as well as a notable title in the coming year. Here’s the trailer.
Gist: The story begins with a man waking up one morning in an open field, half-naked, with no memories of his mishaps of the previous day. As soon as he gets back to his hotel,...

Children
Director: Jaffe Zinne
Writer: Jaffe Zinne
Producers: Jaffe and Stephanie Zinn, Sterling Hoch
U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
Cast: Kate Lyn Sheil, Samantha Jacober
Jaffe Zinne blasted onto the film fest circuit scene with 2011′s Magic Valley and is following up the mystery set in Idaho with a micro-budgeted horror thriller film set in the same backyard (state). We’re big fans of Kate Lyn Sheil and think that Children oozes with Take Shelter-like potential (where natural surroundings aid in the human havoc).
Gist: During a hazy summer filled with the smoke of distant wild fires, Abbie (Samantha Jacober) & Heidi (Kate Lyn Sheil) take a camping trip through the rugged mountains of Southern Idaho. Convinced that they are living in the end times as prophesied in the book of Revelations, Abbie sets about completing a terrible task she believes bestowed upon her in preparation for the coming Rapture.

It's pretty much a no-brainer that any product from the legendary David Lynch is going to be more than a little bit creepy. Surrealism is his stock in trade, whether it's the groundbreaking experimental feature Eraserhead, sexy meta-horror films like Mulholland Drive, or his unforgettably insane TV series Twin Peaks. But over the last couple of years, Lynch has been spending a lot more time on his musical output – mainly his album Crazy Clown Time and a variety of multimedia projects tied to that record. The album itself is classic Lynch: dark, rumbling and repetitive bass lines, industrial noisescapes, punchy percussion, bluesy guitar leads (from the skillful Dean Hurley) and nightmarish production effects, with Lynch supplying most of the vocals on top, often digitally altered in bizarre and comical ways. While the recent video from that album's title track was a whacked-out stream of consciousness romp (including drunk topless women,...
