Prayers for Bobby is based on the true story of Mary Griffith (Sigourney Weaver), a conservative Christian mother whose son Bobby (Ryan Kelley) comes out as a homosexual in his teen years. For years, she tries to change her son's sexuality by praying for him, sending him to gay conversion support groups, and laying immense guilt on him for his sins. After a tragic event, however, Mary is forced to reevaluate her beliefs and how she has treated her son over the years, and she becomes a public advocate for Lgbt rights.

Sigourney Weaver's set to star in her own USA Network series. The multiple Oscar-nominee will head up "Political Animals" as Elaine Barrish, Secretary of State and former first lady who's in the process of recovering from the end of her marriage and the loss of the presidential nomination (who could have possibly inspired this scenario?). The show's the creation of Greg Berlanti (“Brothers & Sisters”) and Laurence Mark (“How Do You Know") and will air this summer. James Wolk ("Lone Star") will play Barrish's son and chief of staff, but no word yet on who'll play her "philandering ex-husband who is still as much in love with her as the office he once held." Weaver's made few excursions to the small screen in her lengthy career -- though her 2009 turn as Mary Griffith in the Lifetime movie "Prayers for Bobby" did net her Emmy, SAG and Golden Globe nominations, and.
