The table has been set, and the stakes raised, for The Rookie‘s Season 6 finale, airing Tuesday, May 21 on ABC.
A lot happened in this week’s episode, which opened with Bradford (played by Eric Winter) being quickly benched after he was basically framed, by Pearson, for Mad Dog’s death (which was actually a suicide). Chen (Melissa O’Neill) went undercover as a nanny for one of the underworld’s premiere money launderers, only to learn that Monica (Bridget Regan) would be paying visits. Monica got a bead on those who tried to kill her, thanks to “Cruz Castillo” (guest...

What a way to bring it home in the final ten minutes of the hour.
Mostly, The Rookie Season 6 Episode 4 was a relatively underwhelming hour, hovering on uneventful and laissez-faire.
But then, they packed all the action and excitement into those final ten minutes where Lucy Chen became a complete and utter badass.
While those final scenes didn't ultimately make up for everything else, they livened things up and introduced some potentially interesting angles and moments of development for Lucy.
The hour also saw Aaron Thorsen returning to active duty after leave and the dynamic duo he and Bradford are together.
There were many odd tones in this installment.
One of the most notable was the team getting sucked into this case that they thought involved a serial killer that we had never even heard about before this.
You had a crappy day. You had them before, you'll have them again.

Nolan can never have a regular anything.
It was a hellish honeymoon for him and his new wife on The Rookie Season 6 Episode 3, providing a heaping dose of humor for an hour that felt mostly like filler.
And Lucy's aspirations stalled to our displeasure.
Things have settled down after the excitement and fun of the season premiere and big 100-episode celebration.
While there was some fun in this installment with the honeymoon antics, and we got that blow for Lucy Chen with the results of her long-awaited detective's exam, it was an understated hour.
And only a little forward movement happened with the plot.
One of the standouts from John Nolan and Bailey's honeymoon was the fantastic camera work utilized to depict the various surveillance Nolan brought for the trip.
I love it when this series plays with cinematography and other things.

The Rookie finally returns after nearly a nine-month hiatus, and there’s lots for fans to look forward to with Season 6.
Thanks to the Season 6 trailer, fans know things pick up pretty much where they left off when Season 5 ended.
Thorsen’s (Tru Valentino) life hangs in the balance after he is shot and coded while Celina (Lisseth Chavez) was visiting him.
The rest of the Mid-Wilshire crew was on the hunt for the bad guys who shot Thorsen and beat Celina, but the cops were diverted away from the real danger by a mystery man.
Although the hunt for the bad guys is on, when The Rookie returns, two celebrations are taking place on the show.
The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley teased two milestone events fans won’t want to miss.
When will Nolan and Bailey’s wedding take place on The Rookie?

Hank Bradford, head writer for “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers,” died Jan. 18 in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure, his family said. He was 88.
Bradford served as Carson’s head writer from 1970-75.
“As head writer on The Tonight Show, he was admired and beloved by his fellow writers for both his pitch-perfect sense of humor and his relatively-sane leadership style in a job (and profession) which tended toward the weird and chaotic,” Bradford’s family said in a prepared obituary. “Above his desk at The Tonight Show was a sign that read: ‘It left here funny.’”
Bradford later served as head writer for “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers” between 1986 and 1987. He also wrote episodes for “Mash” and “Three’s Company.”

Hank Bradford, the clever stand-up comic who performed a half-dozen times on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson before serving a five-year stint as head writer on the program, has died. He was 88.
Bradford died Jan. 18 in Los Angeles, his family announced.
Bradford did uncredited dialogue rewrites on the Burt Reynolds-starring Smokey and the Bandit (1977) — when he got the script, “it wasn’t a comedy,” he revealed to host Mark Malkoff on a 2017 episode of The Carson Podcast — and wrote for such TV shows as M*A*S*H, Private Benjamin and Three’s Company.
The Brooklyn native made his first appearance on the Tonight Show in September 1966 when it was based in New York. He got a spot inside the writers room in 1969, succeeded Marshall Brickman as head writer in 1970 and moved with the show to Burbank in 1972.

Ego keeps a lot of people afloat.
It informs their decisions and, to some extent, makes them predictable to anyone who cares to pay a little attention.
It must have come up in our Billions reviews that Mike Prince -- like any other billionaire -- suffers from the all-too-common condition among people of his stature. He suffers from inflated self-importance.
We will discuss everything that went down on Billions Season 7 Episode 6, so if you're yet to get caught up on it, beware of spoilers.
Mike prepared to confront the ruling sentiments from the electorate where he was concerned. It was a standard procedure in candidacy, but that gave the saboteurs in his midst the opportunity to try and trim him down and, if lucky, get him to quit.
To brave the tumultuous waters of politics is not an easy feat. It requires a person whose self-awareness and pride are above that of an average person.

Has there ever been confusion on what the word disaster means?
The very sound of the word is horrifying. Even if the internet has watered down the impact the term used to have, there is still a lingering sense of dread associated with the word.
When a disaster occurs, it is impossible to derive anything positive from it, and we believe that to be true, or at least I did.
We will discuss the events of Billions Season 7 Episode 4 in-depth, so if you're yet to get caught up on it, beware of spoilers.
As Prince fielded threats and crises from all corners, a real-world disaster was happening as a hurricane-ravaged a community. In the true fashion associated with the Mpc trading floor, they bet on it.
It was wild to think that someone would see something like that unfold on the screen, and instead of sympathizing with the people and communities affected by the tragedy,...

“Maybe people see me as a guy heading for an untimely ending,” jokes Emmy winner Murray Bartlett about three of his most recent roles in which his characters have either been accidentally stabbed to death (Armond in Season 1 of “The White Louts”), murdered in cold blood (Nick in “Welcome to Chippendales”) or tragically died in the arms of his life partner (Frank in “The Last of Us”). For our recent webchat he adds, “There is a silver lining, I guess, for me,” he smiles. “I don’t know what it is, but I’m not complaining, because it’s allowed me to do some really great stuff, and not have to stay alive as one character to stop me from playing the next!” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

It has been three weeks, and The Rookie's absence has been felt.
Some major storylines felt like they had been resolved on The Rookie Season 5 Episode 17 with Elijah in prison and Abril dead.
The only remaining story is that of Celina and her mom, even though it doesn't feel as big as the feud between Elijah and Lopez.
Once in a while, The Rookie breaks away from the typical procedural format and does something fun because we are dealing with some hard stuff most of the time.
Spoilers for The Rookie Season 1 Episode 18 tease a light episode as the show revisits the true crime documentary format we have seen before.
The episode will take us back to the previous season. If you watch The Rookie online, you remember that on The Rookie Season 4 Episode 22, we saw some fascinating people who were even more fascinating to Tim and Lucy.
Remember Dim and Juicy?...
