Over 20,000 people have joined PETA in calling on Thomas Cook to stop promoting and selling tickets to SeaWorld – and now, television icon Sharon Osbourne is among them.
Last month, The X Factor judge has sent a letter on PETA’s behalf calling on the travel provider to remove the notoriously cruel amusement park from its promotions, writing, “Orcas at SeaWorld never get a holiday. Day in and day out, they’re forced to live in barren, grotesquely small enclosures with no means of escape.”
She goes on to explain that in nature, orcas travel up to 100 miles a day – but at SeaWorld, they have no choice but to swim in circles in tiny tanks where they’re unable to play at will, choose their own mates, or engage in any other natural kinds of behaviour. The frustrated animals gnaw on the sides of their tanks until their teeth break, and...

In time for winter, PETA has released a “No Fur” enamel pin for fashion lovers who want to make a proud statement against fur.
Anais Gallagher Models PETA's New No Fur Enamel Pin
Credit/Copyright: Chloe Sheppard
The fox and wire motif was designed by London tattoo artist Emily Malice, and PETA pal Anaïs Gallagher (daughter of Oasis’ Noel Gallagher) fronts the campaign.
“Fur belongs on the animals who are born with it, and I’m proud to rock my fur-free status with this pin,” says Anaïs. “Don’t ever be afraid to speak up for animals – they need us to be their champions.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – notes that animals on fur farms are confined to cramped, filthy cages before they’re drowned, beaten, strangled, electrocuted, or even skinned alive for fur coats, collars, and cuffs. Animals caught in the...

Pamela Anderson does her holiday shopping early. The honorary PETA Us director has sent Kim Kardashian a one-of-a-kind gift: a coral “eco-fur” coat that she custom-designed for the reality star with Russian faux-fur manufacturer Only Me.
Faux Fur Gift from Pamela Anderson to Kim Kardashian
“In the spirit of the season, please accept this coral hip-length faux-mink coat, made especially for you by my partners at Only Me Eco Fur in Russia,” wrote Anderson. "As we all ponder New Year’s resolutions, won’t you consider making a meaningful one to stop wearing fur? You’d be setting a trendy, compassionate example.
“Vogue Paris recently featured Gisele Bündchen on the cover of an issue dedicated to cruelty-free fashion, about which she said, “So happy that Vogue Paris dedicated this issue to animal protection, sending a strong message that wearing real fur is never an option!!”
“Also this fall, Gucci announced...

Last Chance for Animals (Lca), along with a coalition of animal rights organizations and activists, led the annual “Fur Free Friday” demonstration in Beverly Hills over the weekend.
Mena Suvari and Donna D'Errico Protest on Fur Free Friday
The event, which included a march of more than 200 protesters along Rodeo Drive, aimed to raise awareness of the cruelties inflicted on the millions of fur-bearing animals that are slaughtered each year for the sake of fashion.
Actresses Mena Suvari and Donna D’Errico were among those who peacefully protested among bustling Black Friday shoppers, echoing comments made this year by luxury brand leaders that fur is not modern and going out of style.
The demonstration was organized and hosted by Lca and led by Bryan Monell, Lca’s Activist of the Year award recipient and former Lca undercover animal rights investigator who was instrumental in passing the historic West Hollywood fur ban.

If you’re a glassy-eyed wreck suffering from equal parts Ptsd and survivor guilt, don’t rely on your own subconscious to conjure you up a relaxing psychic holiday. You may as well book a world cruise through Boko Haram instead of Thomas Cook.
However unwise, that’s what traumatised cop Sarah (Anna Paquin) does in the opening segment of Real Life, the fifth Electric Dreams story, written by Ronald D. Moore and directed by Jeffrey Reiner. Still visibly shaken a year after fifteen of her colleagues were killed in a police massacre, Sarah agrees to take an experimental Vr trip out of her mind.

Sky's glossy four-part Ian Fleming biopic is a sexy affair. Here's Rob's review of episode one...
This review contains spoilers.
Ian Fleming was good at sex. Writing it, that is. And not just in the way James Bond bedded women with the frequency of a man allergic to standing up. Fleming made sure everything in 007's literary adventures was writ sexy: destinations, clothes, food, drink, cars, planes, even décor... everything in Bond's life was veneered with the seductive, the alluring. It still is. Well, you only live twice, why not make it fun?
It was an especially potent cocktail when he first introduced Bond's 'shagnanigans' to the grey British public in 1953. It was the post-war era of austerity, when rationing was still in place and most people hadn't ventured further than Clacton-on-Sea, and even then that was only for some thoroughly workmanlike, 'best undergarments,...

On the latest "Downton Abbey" Season 4 episode, the Anna-Bates takes a leap forward, while the Crawleys continue to be everyone's favorite aristocrats. Spoiler warning -- don't keep reading if you don't want to know what happens.
Upstairs
There's not a ton going on upstairs this week. A tenant, Mr. Drew, has died and the Crawleys want to take over his land and farm it for themselves because he had fallen behind in the payments. But when Mr. Drew's son wants to take up the tenancy and wins Robert over with his talk of a partnership between the farmers and the estate, they agree to let Mr. Drew the younger take over -- though Robert gives him money to make the account current on the sly.
Mary and Tom find out about it but they don't mind. Tom, as a socialist, is all about helping the farmers, while Mary just likes...

A man who shares the same name with travel agency Thomas Cook has received a free holiday to France. However, it wasn't Thomas Cook who provided the trip to Paris but a competitor. Cook initially posted on Thomas Cook's Facebook, saying: "Seeing as I share the exact same name as your huge company, and because of this I have been ridiculed for as long as I can remember, I think it's only fair that you help compensate for this by giving me one of your lovely holidays. "A weekend to Paris would do just fine." The Thomas Cook agency - despite being encouraged by other Facebook (more)...
