Harking back to those erotic thrillers of yore, especially from the 1980s and 90s, writer-director Joy Wilkinson’s 7 Keys, her debut feature, starts out full of promise and potential — much like the impromptu hook-up that gets the plot rolling. Unfortunately, like many an ill-starred love match, what follows is disappointing as things evolve in a lurid and yet strangely predictable direction. But while it all goes sour and south in the last act, there are definitely sparks of originality in the early running, supported by a brace of strong performances from Emma McDonald and Billy Postlethwaite, who deserve better than what the script gives them to work with.
Premiering in the Visions section at SXSW, this low-budget striver of a feature may find berths with streamers, and ought to at least attract attention from casting directors looking for new talents.

“It was a great surprise,” costume designer Sharon Long admits about her recent win at the Costume Designers Guild Awards for her work on the second season of Hulu’s acclaimed comedy “The Great” for the episode “Five Days.” “I went to the award ceremony actually because it’s the first time I’ve been nominated for an award, so I thought I better go. I couldn’t turn that one down,” she smiles. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“The Great” returned for an even more outrageous second season late last year to virtually unanimous “huzzahs” from critics, scoring a staggering 100 “fresh” rating at Rotten Tomatoes. The first World War (WW1) has been a topic that has gone largely under explored in the world of cinema. I suspect this is to do the complicated nature of the war, the difficulty of spinning a narrative in this hugely complex picture and the lack of an obvious bad guy. The war was an awful, and largely pointless loss of life and treasure that reshaped the world and was the main cause World War 2. As far as “satisfying resolutions go” this is right up there with calling a game “Final Fantasy 11… we promise this is the “Final, Final Fantasy this time”. Much better to knock out another WW2 film, where the Nazis are so...

So much beauty in the filmmaking and technical aspects of the film. A mastery example of cinematography, editing, production design and directing, however there still feels something missing from this new war epic.
The now Oscar nominated and Globe Globe winning film, 1917, is directed by Sam Mendes. Mendes is a filmmaker best know now for his latest additions to the Bond franchise, Skyfall being his first and notably best effort, and more recently he directed the latest Bond film, Spectre. If you look back to Spectre you may remember it opens with one long take, one in which the camera moves freely through the streets of Mexico, into a building, up an elevator, out of a window and onto the roof.

He grew up listening to his father Pete reciting Shakespeare over breakfast. Now Billy Postlethwaite is taking on the part that obsessed them both: Macbeth
Billy Postlethwaite has lost his matches. There’s a hole in his pocket, he mumbles, shaking each leg in a little jig. Eventually, the box slips on to the rehearsal room floor. Snatching it up, he flicks back his mop of curls and grins. He doesn’t half look like his dad, especially when his eyes flash with mischief and grow ever wider. This happens when we talk about two great men of theatre: William Shakespeare and Peter William Postlethwaite.
For Billy, the pair are entwined. Most British kids encounter Shakespeare at school; not many find their dad reeling off soliloquies over their cereal. When Postlethwaite Sr was playing Prospero, Billy’s sister, Lily, ordered him to stop calling her Miranda at breakfast. In his memoir,...
