Director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear (read our review Here, get a copy at This Link) wasn’t exactly a blockbuster – it earned $89 million at the worldwide box office on a budget in the range of 30 to 35 million – but it did get a lot of positive attention when it was released. And I thought it was a blast to watch. So I welcome a Cocaine Bear 2… and during an interview with Rolling Stone, Banks said she would also welcome it.
When asked about the possibility of working on a sequel, Banks told Rolling Stone, “I had an absolutely great time working on the (first movie). I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. Universal has moved “Strays” from June 9 to August 18, placing the R-rated talking-animal comedy in the same general release slot where the likes of “Good Boys” and “We’re The Millers” found fortune and glory in years prior. Now, instead of opening against “Transformers: Rise of the Beast,” itself something of a talking-animal tentpole, it’ll square off against DC’s “Blue Beetle.”
It will replace the untitled comedy from the Please Don’t Destroy comedy group. That film, starring “Saturday Night Live” vets Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy, will now go straight to Peacock on Nov. 17. It further highlights the challenges in releasing big new comedies in theaters since you still might need big new stars. While most “Saturday Night Live” movies were not theatrically successful, “Wayne’s World” and “Blues Brothers” are the exception, the near-disappearance of the SNL comedian-to-movie star pipeline is one reason why we have yet...

Cocaine Bear is based on true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. As our own Kevin Fraser reported last year, the true story goes like this: “In 1985, convicted drug smuggler Andrew Thornton was on a smuggling run from Columbia and had dumped several packages full of cocaine before bailing from the plane himself. Unfortunately, he hit his head on the tail of the aircraft and wound up in a freefall to the ground where he was found dead in someone’s driveway.

Universal Pictures is giving director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear a theatrical release tomorrow, February 24th (you can read some early reactions Here), and some movie-goers are already hoping for a follow-up that would be called Cocaine Shark. It remains to be seen is there’s going to be a sequel at all, let alone one that would go aquatic, but during a conversation with Variety screenwriter Jimmy Warden (who happens to be married to genre icon Samara Weaving) confirmed that he has ideas for multiple sequels.
When asked if he has a sequel in mind, Warden replied, “Yeah, for sure. Not just a sequel. Many sequels. Cocaine Bear in Space is where we would probably end.“
When the interviewer said they couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not, Warden continued: “No, I’m f*cking with you about Cocaine Bear Goes to Space. But for the sequels,...

It is still early in 2023, but several movies have already left quite the impression on moviegoers, such as Blumhouse's killer doll flick "M3GAN" and M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller "Knock at the Cabin." But perhaps the craziest movie of the year is hitting theaters soon: "Cocaine Bear."
Directed by Elizabeth Banks ("Pitch Perfect 2"), the film is actually loosely based on a true story of a bear that, as the title implies, ingested a ton of cocaine. What could possibly go wrong? The movie has an absolutely stacked A-list cast led by the likes of Keri Russell and Ray Liota, in one of his final performances. As for the specifics of it, the synopsis for the film reads as follows:

The movie is inspired by true events from the 1980s when a drug run gone bad led to a bear ingesting large amounts of cocaine. Cocaine Bear imagines the experiences of that bear and how the local community — from petty criminals to forest rangers — handled a coked-out American black bear.

Hollywood's latest CGI movie comes with an X-rated plot about an abandoned pup looking to get back at his crappy owner, and the best part is that it features a voice cast made up of some of our favorite stars.
"Strays," billed by Universal Pictures as a "hilarious, R-rated, live-action comedy," revolves around Reggie (voiced by Will Ferrell), a "naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier" who longs to reunite with his lowlife owner, Doug (Will Forte), even after being abandoned on the mean city streets. The official trailer is here for Elizabeth Banks’ latest directorial effort, the upcoming thriller “Cocaine Bear” from Universal Pictures, which is inspired by a true story. As the title suggests, the film follows a black bear that embarks on a murderous rampage following its unintentional consumption of cocaine.
The film stars Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Ray Liotta, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju, Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince and newcomer Scott Seiss. This film marks one of Liotta’s final acting roles and the first to be released following the actor’s death in May at the age of 67.

San Diego Comic-Con 2021, the second Comic-Con@Home edition of the beloved pop culture event, kicks off its three-day run Friday.
The free online event, which runs through Sunday, isn't anywhere near as packed with panels as the famed in-person Sdcc usually is, but a decent number of studios and networks will still be hosting Q&As and digital screenings for their TV shows and movies.
As TheWrap reported exclusively earliest this month, HBO (which did present at the 2020 event) will be skipping this year's online con, but its sibling streaming service HBO Max is presenting a virtual event for the show, "gen:lock."
Other notable absentees from the second (and hopefully last) pandemic-forced virtual San Diego Comic-Con include Marvel Studios and DC Films, both of which did not attend the first Comic-Con@Home last year.
