Mike Pinder, co-founding member and keyboardist of the Moody Blues, died at the age of 82 on Wednesday, April 24th. He was the last surviving founder of the English rock band.
Pinder’s family and former Moody Blues bandmate John Lodge announced his death today via a statement on Facebook. The family noted that his final days were “filled with music” and that he passed peacefully at his Northern California residence.
“Michael lived his life with a childlike wonder, walking a deeply introspective path which fused the mind and the heart,” the family stated. “He created his music and the message he shared with the world from this spiritually grounded place; as he always said, ‘Keep your head above the clouds, but keep your feet on the ground.’ His authentic essence lifted up everyone who came into contact with him. His lyrics, philosophy, and vision of humanity and our place in...

The hazy memories of classic rock stars are part of what makes the genre so fascinating. A member of The Moody Blues said he paved the way for The Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” by introducing the Fab Four to an important instrument. Paul McCartney has contradictory memories of how his band started using that instrument.
The Beatles’ ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ has an instrument the band found intriguing
During a 2020 interview with Uncut, Paul recalled an anecdote about a 1960s psychedelic instrument. “We used to go into Abbey Road every day; it was our workplace,” he recalled. “One day, in the middle of the studio, there was this … piece of furniture that none of us had ever seen before. It was a kind of wartime grey color. It wasn’t glamorous at all. We said, ‘What’s this?’ The engineer started explaining it to us: ‘It will synthesize strings. You can...

The Zombies only released two albums during their initial run, but the hits keep them coming back. Director Robert Schwartzman’s documentary, Hung Up on a Dream, named after a song from their classic album Odessey and Oracle, premiered at the Zach Theater during SXSW on March 12. Cooking Vinyl Records will release Different Game on March 31.
The Zombies’ first full-length album since 2015’s Billboard-charting Still Got That Hunger features founding keyboardist Rod Argent and lead singer Colin Blunstone, along with drummer Steve Rodford, guitarist Tom Toomey, and bassist Søren Koch. It retains the variety of sounds the band has been cultivating since their formation in 1961.
In 1964, The Zombies won a recording contract with Decca Records, the same label as the Rolling Stones, as first prize in a contest sponsored by The London Evening Post. Their single, “She’s Not There,” hit the charts internationally, and the band was part of...

No matter the weather, it’s always the perfect Time of the Season for The Zombies. Their new album is called Different Game, and everyone plays like they were dealt a perfect hand. But it’s the fingers of founding keyboardist Rod Argent, drummer Steve Rodford, guitarist Tom Toomey, bassist Søren Koch, and the throat of original lead singer Colin Blunstone that propel the music.
Director Robert Schwartzman’s documentary, Hung Up on a Dream, which will have its world premiere at SXSW, looks back at The Zombies’ 60-year career: the first British Invasion band to write themselves into American pop history after The Beatles with “She’s Not There,” the Rock Hall of Famers’ Odessey and Oracle is in the Top 100 of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The group is looking forward.

Graeme Edge, the Moody Blues drummer who co-founded the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group and stayed with it for more than 50 years, died today. He was 80. His longtime bandmate Justin Hayward posted the news on the English group’s website but offered no details.
“It’s a very sad day,” Hayward wrote. “Graeme’s sound and personality is present in everything we did together and thankfully that will live on.” Read his full statement below.
Edge co-formed the group in Birmingham just as the British Invasion was hitting America. The Moody Blues crashed onto the international rock scene with their first hit, 1965’s “Go Now,” which went No. 1 in the UK and went top 10 in the States. The group went on to have two more U.S. Top 10 singles and three in the UK but were much more successful on the albums charts.

Are We Monsters is an intriguing title and one that drew me into the movie before I knew anything else about it…. The film sees werewolf hunters trying to find other ways to control the werewolf population with the final silver bullets all used up. Meanwhile a young female werewolf, Maya, is trying to understand herself, her history and her possible future before time runs out.
I have to admit that I’m not the biggest werewolf movie fan. That’s not to say I don’t like them, there have of course been plenty of good movies about them. Dog Soldiers, An American Werewolf In London, The Howling, The Wolf Man and Howl are just a few from the genre that I have very much enjoyed.

Howard J Ford’s latest feature film is The Lockdown Hauntings, a supernatural serial killer movie. The award-winning director behind The Dead, The Dead 2 India, and Never Let Go, revealed that plans are underway to release the film, which was shot entirely in lockdown without a crew, exactly one year after the UK lockdown was called (March 16) which is the very same day the film’s story starts.
