Bosnian filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic, whose debut feature, “Grbavica,” won the Berlinale Golden Bear in 2006, was at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this week to present a masterclass for the 10 film students and graduates taking part in Efp Future Frames, a fest section that screened their short films (see trailer above).
Zbanic, whose other films include “On the Path” and “For Those Who Can Tell No Tales,” spoke to the students about her early career experiences and approach to filmmaking.

Efp Future Frames, the showcase for emerging film talents from European Film Promotion (Efp) territories, will present the work of ten young directors at Karlovy Vary Film Festival 2018 (June 29-July 7).
The event, a co-production between Efp and the festival, will introduce the filmmakers and their work to the public, industry professionals and press for four days from July 1 to 4. The 27th edition of the Stockholm International Film Festival (Nov 9 - 20) will present 200 films from 70 countries.
The Stockholm International Film Festival will kick-off with Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake, followed by a mid-festival ‘middle film’ screening in the shape of Nate Parker’s Birth of A Nation, and will close with Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester By The Sea.

The third cascade of world premieres in 15 days flowed from the headquarters of the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday as programmers revealed their Midnight Madness, Tiff Docs, Vanguard, Tiff Cinematheque and Short Cuts selections.
This week’s offering includes Ben Wheatley’s all-star gangster thriller Free Fire, which opens Midnight Madness one year after the premiere of the British auteur’s High-Rise; fast-rising Chadwick Boseman in revenge thriller Message From The King in Vanguard and a Tiff Docs strand that features climate change documentary The Turning Point, featuring and produced by Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Swedish Film Institute has revealed the 29 projects to receive support in its latest round of funding.
